Very disappointed with Incubus Dreams by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Wanted to reread The Lovely Bones, but I can't find my copy!

Going to try and read Wuthering Heights again

That would be great, thank you!

No...thank you! :thumbsup2

And Kaoden39 and RUDisney, I will post it to a website where I have 2 other stories and all of you can read it there. I'll send you the link through PM okay when I'm done.

I finished writing it today and now I'm typing it so I can put on the website where my other stories are. I should have it finished tomorrow and up no later than Tuesday. I appreciate your opinions. And thanks for the website Kaoden39, I'll check it out later. :flower3:

Your welcome and I look forward to reading it.

Last Night at the Lobster by Stewart O'Nan

Wally Lamb's The Hour I First Believed. It's really good and I'm a teacher and Columbine was spring of my rookie year.

I too thought about rereading The Lovely Bones, but I traded it at an English bookstore in Strasbourg, France; that's where my copy is. (Though I believe my school has copies)

I put, The Christmas Sweater, on hold. I'm reading, Tuesdays with Morrie. I'm half-way through it and I just started it last night. I would've continued reading but I needed sleep. Very good book.

That's what libraries are for. I can't wait to discuss this book next Monday at my book club.

I think the whole theme of the book is summed up on page 136 of the paperback. The dead girl is listing all of the things she has to do (give up) in order to get into a higher level of heaven. I think that is what we all have to do to become better people in our own lives. There are so many things we hold onto that keep us in the same place in our lives. When we allow ourselves to get past them, we can move forward.

There is a waiting list at my local library. I'm like number 212.

I'm about to read Percy Jackson & the Olympians The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Younger DD12 just finished it from the school library and is dying for me to read it. Apparantly Pierce Brosnan is making the move, to be reieased President's Day '10. SHe found clips on YouTube, it loooks really good!

I just read that one a few weeks ago. Loved it! Made me cry at the end.

Were you the one that posted about the book? If so, thank you.

It is inspirational reading, but yes it is very, very sad. I knew someone, special to me, that passed away recently from having ALS. :(

Jaz is not quite a bumbling as Stephanie. But, the level of humor is what I see. Jaz is a kick butt, and ask questions later vampire assassin for the CIA. Now mind you she is not a vampire hater, she doesn't kill just nay vampire just the bad guys. Her partner/boss Vayl is a vampire who sets her blood rushing. The author Jennifer Rardin handles the whole thing very tongue on cheek, she goes as far as to have an interview with Jaz at the end of the first book. If you like Stephanie Plum you should like Jaz Parks.
I LOVE Stephanie Plum so I just put the Jaz books on hold at the library.

Some friends recommended Janet Evanovich to me. I picked up 2 of her books today at the library. Browsed through them...looks good. We'll see. Anyone else read her?
YES!!! I'm always laughing when I read her books...even for the second and third times :teeth:. I've read a couple of J.E.'s other books and while they're enjoyable, they're just not the caliber of the Stephanie Plum books. At least not the ones I read.

Finished the latest Jaz Parks book, Bite Marks :thumbsup2
Love Jaz and Vayl!

Now I am reading the latest Riley Jensen book, Bound to Shadows
I've read Full Moon Rising and I put both Kissing Sin and Tempting Evil on hold at the library. It was awhile before I went back to the library and all they had was Tempting Evil. I started reading it and felt lost. It took me a couple of chapters to realize I'd missed Kissing Sin. Do you really like the series? I liked, but didn't love, Full Moon Rising. Just wondering if it's worth sticking with...

I read The Lovely Bones years ago and wondered what all the recent buzz was about. I just saw they're making it (or have made??) into a movie. I don't have my copy anymore either, and I can't even remember what the book was about. I must not have loved it if I got rid of my copy of the book, though.

I liked the Anita Blake books at first, but toward the end they're just repetitive nonsense. I gave up on them. The last one I actually enjoyed was when they went to New Mexico or somewhere in the southwest.

I just finished The Time Traveler's Wife. It was ok. I'm now reading The Magicians by Lev Grossman, I think from a recommendation here. I'm only a few chapters in but I really like it so far.

I'm trying to remember the name of a book I read several years ago after it was reviewed in People Magazine, I think. It was about a prostitute and was set in the 1800's, maybe. I can't remember much about it other than the main character worked in a brothel and met a wealthy man. I think she was trying to get him to marry her. Only a few other details stick out in my mind. One was a scene in a stationary shop and the other was a special, non-disboards friendly talent the prostitute possessed :rolleyes1. Does anyone have a clue what book I'm talking about? There was talk about it being made into a movie but I'm pretty sure it never was.

ETA: never mind. With some creative Googling I found it. It's The Crimson Petal and the White.

The Riley books are okay, beach reads really.

I liked Lovely Bones except I thought it "Jumped the Shark" at the end. ;)

I will finish the Anita series, but it is so repetitive and you can literally skip chapters and not get lost.

Have you tried the BDB books by JR Ward? :thumbsup2

I gave up on the Anita Blake books after around two or three. Same with the Kim Harrisons. Just found a new author last night, Andy McDermott, downloaded his first book, high hopes for the series!

Yes I've read all of them and I'm impatiently waiting for Lover Mine. I also recently downloaded Covet but I haven't read it yet.

I think you could skip a whole Anita book and not miss anything, except maybe a new sex partner (or two, or three)

I tried reading Dead Witch Walking and got about halfway through and put it down to start the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I just couldn't get into it.

I just looked up Andy McDermott. His books look interesting. Please report back and let me know if you liked them.

OK, so from the collection of short stories that I recently read, a few authors really stood out for me:

Kelley Armstrong

Jim Butcher (specifically the Dresden Files is what the short story was based on and this one I really loved!)

P.N. Elrod

Rachel Caine

Tanya Huff

Have any of you read books by these authors? Thoughts? :)

I'm reading THE GRAND FINALE by Janet Evanovich. REALLY enjoyed METRO GIRL and then started MOTOR MOUTH which is based on 2 of the same characters from the first book, but couldn't get in to it. I'm LOVING the one I'm reading now though. :thumbsup2

To those who read my story....thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
