RUDisney.........are you the poster that read Mudbound?

I just ordered it from Barnes & Noble. My DD had to order a book for school & could get free shipping if you ordered $25 or more, so I got a few books that sounded good from some of the posters on this thread & that was one of them.
I'm glad NeverEnough spoke up because it wasn't me. Now you have my interest piqued, though, so I'll put it in my queue at the library.

I'm reading "The Toss of a Lemon" by Padma Viswanathan. I'm about halfway through it and really like it.
It is set in India and is the story of a woman and the changes that take place in her life throughout the years. It starts in 1896 and works its way up to sometime in the 1950's.
It is a very interesting book, one that I can recommend.

The Hollow, by Nora Roberts

Who do you think is better, if you do...Nora or Danielle? I haven't read Danielle in about 2 years and I'm done with Nora's books til her new one comes out. I'm starting to read books I read a LONG time ago now. I really enjoy her.

Nora by a long ways :thumbsup2 Nora is my fave author by far - though her JD Robb stuff is my fave (Roarke :lovestruc)

The last Danielle booked I liked was the Bachelors. The others just have too much sad stuff.

I had always loved Danielle Steel, but now I find her books repetitive now. I do still read them as a "fluff" book now & then but I don't run out to buy the newest one.

I never have been a huge fan of Nora Roberts, although I tried numerous books of hers. Not sure why because I know so many readers love her.

ITA on the Danielle books. A lof of them really seem the same :rolleyes1

Nora has a lot of range in her books. Some are better than other but I'll always run out and buy the latest one on release day... Well not "run out" anymore once my Kindle2 gets here :cool1:

For me, it's not even a name or character being repeated in different books so much as the fact that in Steel's books she just continues to repeat the story, the descriptions of the characters, etc., the turmoil of the characters & their personalities over & over throughout the book...............does that make sense?

I guess I'm getting old...........or maybe finally maturing as a reader after all these years!!! LOL :rotfl:

Yes, within the book she just seems to continually repeat the same things.

She'll tell how a character is very fashionable & describe her outfit & then in the next chapter she'll talk about the character going to dinner & how she is wearing the latest fashions because she is just on the cutting edge of fashion. Then 2 chapters later it describes how the character is off to her job, once again wearing the latest fashions because she has always been a fan of the runway & just loves to fill her closets with fashions from the hottest designers.

I noticed it a few years ago while reading one of her books & now it just stands out to me. It just seems continual through all her books & now that my attention is drawn to it, I don't run out to get her books like I used to.

I still read them, but like I said, I use them as fluff books in between a more intense read. :goodvibes

I can agree with both of these. Steel's books are just okay IMO.

I have to admit I'm a "fluff" reader. I work long hours at a demanding job and reading is my escape.. The more fluff the better :thumbsup2 I stay away from serious or sad books (Marley & Me the one exception).

In the last few days I've finished "Big Stone Gap," which I dearly loved! Can't wait to read the others in the series, and "The Idiot Girl's Action Adventure Club." I wasn't as crazy about this book as I was of another of her books. Don't know why, though.

I'm now reading "The Myth of You and Me." So far, I'm really enjoying it. It's making me think about friendships and relationships I let go.

I just finished Cerulean Sins, by Laurell K. Hamilton. It is number 10 or 11 in the Anita Blake series. It was ok.

Next up is the latest Stephanie Plum. :surfweb:

Just finished Shutter Island (I am one of those people who always has to read the books when they come out as movies). I thought it was pretty good, it was a light read and I finished it in a few nights. It has one of those ambiguous endings, if those are your thing definitely give it a read.

Any NONFICTION readers out there?

I read some fiction, but I really enjoy non-fiction a lot.

I just finished "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. It was OK. It really dragged in the middle when she was whining about not being able to mediate - I found her a bit tiresome.

I'm thinking about reading the new Jon Krakauer book about Pat Tillman - anyone read that yet?

I read non fiction, mostly biographies of past royalty of both European and Asian countries.

Nonfiction--I read Grisham's, The Innocent Man.

I also read Sin in the Second City (I think was the name). The height of prostitution around prohibition in Chicago.

I just started The Hour I First Believed. The Wally Lamb stuff can be a bit much, but they keep me interested for a while. It's historical fiction.

And I finished Atonement before that. Loved it until the 3rd part. Then I thought it dragged. I don't know if I loved the ending. I haven't seen the movie.

I started Dead and Gone (Charlaine Harris) today. I'm about halfway through so I'll probably finish it off tomorrow. It's good so far. :thumbsup2

Some friends recommended Janet Evanovich to me. I picked up 2 of her books today at the library. Browsed through them...looks good. We'll see. Anyone else read her?

I got my mom one of her books last Christmas and she liked it so much, she is now collecting all of her books. :thumbsup2 I haven't read any yet myself but I'll probably start them soon based on my mom's reviews.

Janet Evanovich is one of my favorite authors. Her books are a hoot!

The Curious Inicdent of the Dog at Night-Time At first I had a little trouble getting into it, since the writing style is so different. It is very simple with a lot of short, blunt sentences. After a little bit, though, it became very interesting to see the world in that way-broken down into parts, thinking about the tiniest detail. It has really grown on me.
