What Are You Reading Right Now?

I'm going to Belize on vacation next week, so I wanted something to put me in a tropical mood. I'm re-reading Tennessee Williams' The Night of the Iguana, which is set at a Mexican beach resort.

I will be packing a couple of books to read on my trip. One is Clermont, an 18th century Gothic novel and the other is On Holiday: A History of Vacationing.

Big Williams fan? I took an entire class on Edward Albee (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf) and Tennessee Williams. It was really good!

Right now I am reading "The Handmaiden's Tale." It is wonderful-heartbreaking and kind of scary. I highly suggest it!

Thanks for the recommedation. I like her books but haven't read this one. Right now, I'm reading Carl Hiasson's "Skinny Dip". So far it's seeming typically funny. I LOVED the Barbara Delinsky book I just finished, "The Secret Between Us" .

Did you read Barbara Delinsky The Vineyard??? Really Good!

I just started Peony in Love by Lisa See...so far so good!:)

"The Black Unicorn" by Terry Brooks. I read "Magic Kingdom For Sale: Sold" about 20 years ago,so I think I might need to re-read since I am moving along in the series now.

With Open Arms by Nora Roberts

Its the 1st time I have ever read one of her books.

I'm reading The Potluck Club-Trouble's Brewing and trying to get through Eat, Pray, Love. Its not grabbing me the way I thought it would. :rolleyes1

I picked up Jodi Picoult's newest yesterday, Change of Heart. I am in the middle of Salem Falls now. Every time I read one of her books, there is at least one part that I really have trouble getting through. I often want to just close the book because it is written with so much description, I can find it somewhat disturbing. Although it bothers me, that is what makes her a great author. :thumbsup2

I read Salem Falls two Picoult books ago :) Be patient with it. I thought the same thing you did. I ended up enjoying, although the "resolution" happy-infuriated me, you know how her books are. ;) I picked up her new one this weekend. I'm think about shelving Into the Wild and read it instead.

Let us know how you liked Salem Falls.

I'm just about finished with Picoult's Picture Perfect - less than 50 pages to go.

It didn't start out too great, got better & now I'm not sure I'm enjoying the ending. For me it's been a book that's really dragging.

I've loved a few of her books & been so-so about others, so much so that I've been leary about reading more of hers. :guilty:

MELSMICE, that's the book I finished this weekend!! I will warn you, you will hate the ending. I put it down and went, "Huh??"

Let me know what you think!

I remember you said that you were reading it & dumb as it may sound every so often I keep thinking, "Gee, I wonder what LindsayDunn thought of this book" :rotfl:

I just can't get why the character Will (the Native American) is in the book. I haven't figured out the significance yet. It confuses me.

Bumping up this thread to ask, has anyone reading Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer? I swear this book is so boring it's killing me. Did anyone else have trouble with it? Thanks!
I'm reading it this month for my book club. I am really enjoying it ... and I really didn't think I would! Could it be that the book doesn't read like a story but more like a really long magazine or newspaper article, and maybe that's why you're not liking it as much, LindsayDunn? I'm not normally into that "newspaper journalism" style of writing and am surprised that I'm enjoying the book. I'd like to see the movie once I finish the book.

I'm reading "Boone" by Robert Morgan. It's a biography of Daniel Boone, naturally.

I've loved a few of her books & been so-so about others, so much so that I've been leary about reading more of hers. :guilty:

I read My Sister's Keeper and was so furious with the ending, I won't read any more of her stories.

I decided to ditch book club this month (since I haven't started The Senator's Wife and the meeting is Tuesday) and the next book I will read is The Twentieth Wife.

Oh, oh-I just bought My Sister's Keeper at a book sale. Now I'm not sure about reading it.
My Sister's Keeper was one of the best books I ever read & my favorite by her.

Definitely read it & make your own opinion.

I'm reading Geisha by Liza Dalby (fascinating) and Turning Angel by Greg Iles. He is one of my all-time favorite authors.

I just finished Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer.

Changes of Heart

i am a huge Jodi Picoult fan. I do agree that she does get very descriptive in some parts of every book.

I was not crazy about her last book, 19 minutesI tohught it was much more predictable than many of her others. Loved Loved loved My Sisters Keeper

I just finished The Last Juror by John Grisham. I thought it was a very good book and very emotional in some parts and surprising in others.

I just finished Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports by John Patterson. Yeah, I know they are young adult books but I really don't care. I love them for a quick easy read and they are definitely page turners.
