I just finished The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. It wasn't too bad, but it was such a slow book for me. Even though the title should have been a clue, I thought it would be more Dracula and less history lesson. :lmao:

Today I'm starting 'Tis by Frank McCourt. I'm fascinated with him now since reading Teacher Man and Angela's Ashes. That man is a phenomenal writer.

I had such high hopes for The Historian. I really loved it and then...it ended. Just like that. There was all that buildup and then it stopped.

I finally got my hands on Charlotte Sometimes by Penelope Farmer. I LOVE how the book and the Cure song start off the same way!

About The Historian: I'll white this out because it's spoilerish

One thing that really bugged me was how they didn't bring Dracula in until the end. I mean, he ended up being such an interesting character! I love how they made him so cruel and evil, but at the same time he was dedicated towards preserving that library. I thought the author either should have brought him in earlier and made him a bigger character, or not brought him in at all, and made the story about the historians.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't read a good book or any book for that matter in over a month, maybe two. I think I'll go by the library and see whats out and about.

I just finished The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. I think I was the only female in the world who didn't bawl over the movie, so I thought I would give the book a chance. It was awesome!

After wading through Hannibal Rising, I am now reading Hannibal.

I'm in between books at the moment. The library is on my first stop for the day. Not sure what I want to read next.

"Wading through..." does that mean you didn't care for it? I've been debating on buying it. I was always a fan of his other books, but Hannibal really disappointed me along with a ton of his other readers.

Hannibal Rising was AWFUL. The movie wasn't half bad, but the book was just 200 pages of blah, blah, blah. Stick to Silence and Red Dragon for the Lecter books :)

Last night I finished Isolation Ward by Joshua Spanogle. I usually like Robin Cook's medical thrillers, but this was the first Spanogle book I read and I found it to be a little dry. I'm not sure what I'm reading next, but I'll update when I pick a book later today.

I am re-reading Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series of books because a new one is coming out in July. It's been awhile and I didn't want to be confused when I finally got the new one! I'm on the third one, The Well of Lost Plots.

I am reading Perpetuations by Joseph B Doyle.

I've only just started so I don't have an impression yet. The back flap says it's about a young girl's disappearance, her brother fighting to regain his memory of the event, good versus evil, a ghost story with a twist, a deadly secret buried in the past and implications that could impact the future...

It's the first book by this author, and he'll be doing a reprint with more backstory on the characters in a later edition. He's also contemplating a trilogy...

Sharpe's Eagle by Bernard Cornwell. I love this author, I like the way he writes.

NMAmy--I love Thursday Next and other than my mom who started reading them at my suggestion, I don't know anyone else who has read them. Jasper Ffforde's Nursery Crime books are good too.

I am looking for something light to read when we go on vacation in April--I need a fun plot and a happy ending! Anyone have a good suggestion?

How about Carl Hiassen? He writes these mystery/thriller types of books, but they're actually humorous and light. I'm not a big fan of mystery, but the books were good.

Or pick up a young adult book. They can be so well written and not childish at all. Anyway, who cares about childish, we're all DISNEY FANS!

THE SWORD OF SHANARRA by Terry Brooks. I've actually read it a couple of times before through the years, but I find it enjoyable enough to read again. I've been pretty busy with others things, so I'm not getting through it as fast as I usually might.
I haven't really thought of what book to hit next.

I just finished "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls. Very interesting autobiography. I now have "Case Histories" by Kate Atkinson...haven't started it yet. I always have a long list of books I want to read. I just wish I had more time.....

Case Histories is fabulous. I hope you love it as much as I did. :thumbsup2

I read The Historian about 1 1/2-2 years ago. I thought it was great. Just mysterious enough to hold my interest. I usually like things a bit more fast-paced, but I found this book really good.

I was responding to the 1st post...this would look weird on it's own...it sounds like I haven't read a book in 2 years.

I just finished reading Thunderhead by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. I love their books!!!! They are soooo suspenseful!

I'm on a classic kick, I just finished reading Dracula. Pretty good book. I was surprised. I thought it would be slow, it wasn't. I've started reading The Tale of Two Cities. I'm a few chapters in and I hope that it will pick up soon.

I just got finished reading "The Dark Side of the Moon" by Sherrilyn Kenyon . Now , I am working on "Labyrinth" by Kate Mosse .
