What are you getting your TWEEN DD for Christmas?

Okay guys, help me out. I'm really drawing a blank on something else for my stepdaughter. So far we're getting her a giant chocolate bar, 2 movies, a magazine subscription, a few random books and a Rue21 gift card. I'm looking for another $25ish gift. Her mom will probably spend over $1000 for her for Christmas so she really already has the ipad and the iphone and the uggs and the sperrys and a ton of other stuff she won't touch. I am hoping for something fun but really she just spends her time on her phone. Any ideas???

What about a cool pair of headphones for the iPhone. I've seen some fun ones with characters or funky colors on the ear pieces. Also, apparently, there is some type of new headphone out that the kids all want. I was given a lecture on this yesterday at Target. They look like the old traditional earmuff headphones but come in a wide range of bright colors. Apparently, they are the only headphones to buy at least that's what the 11 year old said.

Just figured out what they are, Beats, and they are upwards $200. For that much, the whole band had better come crawling out of those things and give you a personal concert! I think someone is going to need to find a job if she wants those things.

I lied. I was not done. I saw a super cool Beauty and the Beast sweatshirt on Hot Topic. They are having $1 shipping with $30 order, plus $15 Hot Cash with $30 order. I added a Maleficent purse mirror to my order for DD15 and total was $30.01 :)

How does the Hot Cash come? Does it come with the package? I haven't gotten an email yet, like Kohls does.

I saw everyone talking on here about how Hot Topic had Disney stuff. So I was at the mall today and I went to the store. It was scary in there, I felt so out of place! LOL I'll have to look online!

Yes, some very scary stuff, DD12 wanted to look for a tutu in there but we decided not to even enter the store (she got one at Claires instead). But their Disney stuff is extra cool- the graphics cover the whole shirt, not like a t-shirt with a picture on the front like most other tops. I really like the Disney dresses, but the Alice one has the best front coverage for teen/tween, and another girl at school wears it to dances and concerts, so guess we won't get one. If the other styles had the higher neckline, I would get one for the girls.

I still have to get a gift card for trac phone minutes and a gift card for clothes so she can pick them out herself after Christmas. Other than stocking stuff I think she is pretty much done. Like a nut, when my first daughter was born, I bought her the biggest stocking I could find. Now I have 4 girls and every year I kick my own butt for having bought those. They are huge and not easy to fill!

My stepmom needlepointed DS a huge stocking. It was promptly put away. Couple years later when he was of stocking age (when he wouldn't pull it apart) i made him one more the size of the one my mom made me when I was little. No way was I dealing with that monster stocking each year! I'm impressed you stuck it through. :)

Wow, just reading that list is exhausting.....38 gifts for a 10 year old? Think of all the needy families or charities you could help and the example you could set for your daughter by providing for others. You might reply that your family already does that or perhaps this is just a list of things you shared to make others swoon over how much you are giving. I am still sad that people would over indulge like this. It is not healthy for your child.

GraciesMom simply replied with an answer to the thread title. No need to judge or compare. Others may get ideas from her list. Doesn't matter if your list has 3 items or 30. Its YOUR list.

If it makes you sad then don't do it for your own kids but why the need to comment on what other people do for their own. You don't know that poster or her kids, you have no idea what is "healthy" for them.

If you are exhausted after reading that list, perhaps you are the unhealthy one. Who are you to judge??? I mean, instead of using your time writing judgemental posts, you could be volunteering at a soup kitchen. There are starving people in the world, right? :confused3

Graciesmom: What sewing book are you getting for your dd? My dd just asked for a sewing machine because she wants to be a fashion designer ... and I have no idea where to start.

The only reason I can think of that you would post that is to hurt my feelings. I am embarrassed to admit that it did. I posted what I have for my daughter like lots of people have on here. I never wanted to bother people or make people swoon. I buy what I would like to for my children. I buy what we can afford to buy for my children. I have a very sweet hearted giving child. She doesn't ask for much during the year and we go a little crazy at Christmas. It doesn't hurt anyone and for you to be hurtful is just flat out mean.

As to helping others, we sponsor a little girl for Christmas and have inspired two other people to sponsor kids as well. We donate to Toys for Tots, a local children's cancer ward, the local fire department, and our local food pantry. We also collect things for Give Children the World.

I am sorry if my list bothered anyone and was truly posted with good intentions as I love these boards at Christmas time. I never meant to hurt anyone and apologize if it came off that way. I was just excited about my little girls gifts.

If you can get your children 1 gift or 100 gifts, as long as that works for your family and your blessed enough to be able to do anything special like that for your kids, I think we are all pretty lucky.

Again, I never meant disrespect. I guess it's just safer to stay off these boards. The last few years it's gotten so you can't have your own opinions without being harassed.

Merry Christmas guys!

I ordered a book off Amazon called "My First Sewing Machine Book: Learn to Sew: Kids

I haven't even got a chance to look at it yet, but I hope it's good. I can't sew to save my life so they will need the guidance. I am going to have to study it too! Lol

Btw, thank you to all the people who were "standing up" for me. It was nice to know I didn't offend everyone on the DIS! :)

I think you are fine! The only thing I regularly buy my kids during the year is books and art supplies. Otherwise they get non-necessities only at Christmas and on their birthday. My parents did the same. It made for wonderful Christmases and bdays, and I think I turned out perfectly well! People who judge have something missing in their lives. Don't let them get to you.

I believe the person who commented on your post has nothing nice to stay about anyone. I do believe she visits the boards to make herself believe that she is superior to everyone.

I, too, buy lots of stuff for my kiddos (one is a Gracie, like yours!) at Christmas, for various, personal reasons. No matter...it is no one's place to judge, and you should not feel the need to justify yourself.

I buy my kids 13 and 9 a ton of gifts who cares what others think it is your money and if it makes you happy like it does me to reward kids on a special day you should. :)
