I need some ideas please. :)

My brain hurts :headache: trying to think of something this year. Plus, it's her birthday a couple of weeks before. I have her birthday present, just need Christmas now.

I think I am going to give her (and my dad) a bunch of gift cards (restaurants mostly). I am trying to think of a cute way to do that. (maybe in a photo album)
They have everything they need and not a lot of space for clutter.
Things in the past that have been hits:
Bird Feeder
Manicure things (nail polish etc...)
Photo Calendar -with lots of pics of the grandkids and family
Cook book
Jewelry

DH and I get the mom's a gift card to get their hair done. That is usually a winner.

Well my mom is 80 (and will turn 81 on December 26th!) and she lives in a nursing home. She has dementia. Last year (dd20 and I) got her a birthday gift that was a HUGE hit. It took alot of work from my sister. We got her a portable DVD player. My sister make simple directions and color coding so that she could operate it. We got a boxed set of The Grand Ole Opry shows. These are the old country stars that she remembers.

We always get her a $100 gift card for Bob Evans restaurants for Christmas. She LOVES going there!

Her birthday this year will be more DVD's (per her request).

so far I have a nice black work blouse for her and a beautiful silk kitty cat scarf. I'll end up getting her more small stuff like manicure stuff and bubble bath etc.

I saw some beautiful scarves at a craft fair a few weeks ago and I WISH I had picked one up! My mom is SOO hard to buy for!!
I know one gift will be a gift certificate to the nail salon I go to, she has been there a few times and really likes it but other than that I have no ideas!!

My sis and I are going in together to get my mom a flat screen tv.

I have no idea what to get my mil this year, though.

I will send her a cashiers check for a thousand dollars. She is struggling right now with the bad economy and really doesn't need any more stuff. So I will send her what she does need and that is rent, gas and food money. I also send her five hundred dollars once a quarter for the same expenses. I am blessed that I can afford it, and I know that it does make a difference! after all she is my mom:)

I've almost got my mom sewn up for this Christmas. She's 75yo and a hoarder, so I don't want to give her anything else she can store. So this year I canned up some of my heavenly vegetable soup, some no-sugar-added applesauce, Greek green beans, and carrots. I did this one a few years ago and it was such a hit shes STILL talking about it. I also bought her a sterling silver medic alert bracelet which she really needs(she's diabetic and allergic to latex!) She likes a little wine in the evening, so I'm going to get her some Moscato. DD16 decided she would like to take Grandma to the opening night of the Atlanta Ballet Nutcracker. She will love seeing DD all dressed up(we dress to the nines for this event)

My sisters are getting her gift cards for her favorite restaurants, and one is pre-paying her vet and her doggie day care. :thumbsup2 Since mother lives on a fixed income these are all gifts that she will use and love. And no wrapping paper to save!

This year we're on a pretty limited budget, so I'm giving my mom a "Pamper yourself" basket. So far I've gotten her slippers and B&BW body scrub and lotion (got a great deal this past week, buy 3 get 3 free, plus I had a $10 off of $30 coupon  ) On the Sat after Thanksgiving, Old Navy is having fleece throw blankets on sale for $5 so I'm hoping to pick up one of those. Plus some other odds and ends will go in there. I'm looking to stick to under $30ish.

I've been getting some things here and there. I have a photo tree that is silver and the oval photo holders are hanging from silver metal ribbons. It looks like an antique, but it's not. Hard to explain but it's nice. I think she'll like it.

I also have a digital photo key chain for her. I bought it a long time ago and stored it. I hope I'll be able to find it without too much trouble. :upsidedow

I get my mom a calendar with all of the family members' birthdays and anniversaries written on it, and a bunch of all-occasion cards (lots of sympathy cards, sadly, since you lose a lot of friends when you're in your 70s) and stamps.

My mom asked for a membership to Sam's Club or Costco. DD's school also had a fundraiser where the kids drew a picture and they put it on items so we bought an ornament and some magnets with the picture DD drew. She doesn't need any more 'stuff'; it's hard to find things that are useful and thoughtful.

Mother, if you're reading this, stop now! All others scroll down.

I'm getting my parents a gift together (an open framed US map and map flags - they RV travel).

I got my dad a fleece hooded jacket with "Ask me about Casey, Will, and Finn" embroidered on the back (his grandchildren, who he loves to talk about), and I'm getting my mom the Great Depression Cooking with Clara DVD and book. I just discovered her today after someone mentioned her on the budget board. You can see her on youtube. She's just wonderful!

I'll probably get them something else each, but we're trying to cut back this year.

My sister does this for my mom and it's great! My mom is 86 and in Assisted Living, and she still likes to keep up with everyone's events. :thumbsup2 (And I'm the one who lives near her, so now I don't have to run to get a card every time something comes up. :thumbsup2)

I'm getting mom a large print dictionary. She's physically unable to do much, but is an avid reader, and reads constantly, but every so often comes across a word she'd like to look up. And an Amaryllis plant to watch grow. :)

My mother is a huge Kathy Griffin fan - we saw her live back in June - so I have her book set aside. Also, Mum's been complaining of being cold when she sits to watch TV, and she's been curious about the "Snuggie"...so  I bought one for her.

Also, this weekend, she saw a Jim Shore snowman that she likes, so I will probably go back and buy that for her as well.

So far, I got MIL a village design Yankee Candle tart warmer with a set of winter scented tarts.

I have to get at least one other item. I'm thinking either a Murano glass bracelet or a cashmere scarf.

I'm getting her a Keurig coffee maker. Dad has switched to decaf and she is trying to drink more tea, so she should love it. :goodvibes

This is brilliant! I'm going to do this with a photo calendar (full of photos of DS) for DS's "first grandmother" (his birthmother's mom) who loves to send cards for every occasion.
