*Poll Coming!*

Personally I was going to do my food shopping on Sunday but I think I'll wait a day. :furious:

I'm going to the doctor to have the drains in my stomach taken out. How that is going to contribute to "the cause", I have no idea, but I'll sure as heck feel better. :)

As usual, I'll do whatever I want and not consider what anyone else is doing, or thinks I should be doing.

Recovering from Earth Day Birthday and doing a phone interview with the band Breaking Point.

I am the granddaughter of immigrants and the mother of two immigrants. I will not be shopping on Monday in solidarity.

I'm not sure why this would make anyone angry. No one is forcing you to shop or not to shop.

I am going to the dentist on monday I'm sure I'll be spending money there does that mean I'm shopping??

I'll also be working and watching the TV I watch on monday nights!

What's on Monday? I must be behind on things?

May 1st--big protest. There's a thread on here somewhere about it.

I happened to plan shopping anyway b/c it is the first of the month and we need groceries anyway.

Truthfully, I do not think there will be a big impact here. Not one peep about it in my area.

I don't usually have time to shop during the week whether or not I want to make a statement - I'll just be working (though I often have to 'shop' for work it won't be personal purchases).

My housecleaners are supposed to come - I wonder if I'll get a call if they won't be showing up?

People are protesting immigration laws on Monday. Certain groups want to "decriminalize undocumented immigration" bascially opening our borders to whoever wants to come in and not penalizing any illegal immigrants for sneaking into our country instead of going through proper procedure. This would make there no such thing as an illegal immigrant.

There are a few other threads about this. One says something like Look at this Flyer for May 1 protest and I started a thread titled something like How About This Flyer for May 1st?

I will busy myself trying to find them and link to them if I ever figure that out. In the meantime, feel free to search as both are fairly recent.

Going to work just like every other work day. I'm not deserting my kids. Maybe I will go shopping after I get off if I don't take my friend to register her kid for kindergarden.

Life as usual...........I'll be working, dh will be working, older son will be in school. As usual on a Monday, if we decide to go out shopping after work, we will, and we often get fast food on Mondays, since we put off grocery shopping, so if we want to do that, we will.

I expect to see all my coworkers including the bilingual teachers at work, and no more absences than a normal Monday at the beginning of May.

I am thinking that what will probably happen is that most people will not change their routines, and the "impact" will not be felt.............then I think two things will happen: the Latino community will split with those who did angry at those who didn't and those who really think all the Latinos did will decide because there was very little impact, then Latinos really aren't important to everyday life here. That's why I wish they hadn't done this. It will cause more problems in the long run, I think.

I'll be really surprised if enough people participate to make an impact, and, as I said before, it would be only a ONE DAY impact...........those people who do participate aren't going to NOT buy........they'll just buy the day before or the day after instead...........the overall numbers for the week, month, quarter, will be the same............and many will simply use those numbers to discount that any impact was made at all.

Not shopping, not eating out.

I welcome anyone trying to make a better life for themselves or their family.

Mexican immigrants have been here a long time. I cannot imagine what this area would be like if they weren't here cleaning up after us and putting food on our tables. I also think it's completely crazy to believe that Americans would do some of the jobs our undocumented friends do if they only paid more.
