What are you buying for your 13/14 yeaar old daughter's for Christmas??

And I have to add: I know it is hard to spend a significant amount of money on UGGs or special jeans, but honestly I would hate to have deprived myself of seeing the joy on my daughter's face when she got her first pair of UGGs and nice jeans as Christmas gifts. Yes, she outgrew them after a year or so, but I think Christmas is about fulfilling some of those dreams and I wouldn't have missed that for the world. She was so thrilled - that was worth having to buy another pair the next year. Just my opinion...

Thanks! I think. This is true. I have been going back and forth about the UGG's or a cheaper version that she doesn't really want -because we did that route last year.
I think I will go ahead and get them and feel good about it, because I know she'll be thrilled!:)
I appreciate the reminder.

I didn't read all the responses, but the ones I did had great ideas, I will also mention that you could get the "Ugg style" boots like American Eagle or another brand. My DD9 got a pair of Bearpaw for $40.

Thanks for all the great ideas...My daughter is 12.5 and has asked for a Harajuku messenger bag. Can someone give me a reputable web site to order this on-line?:confused3 I haven't seen the style she wants in any stores.
Thanks!

I found a gift I thought was pretty neat at JCPenney yesterday. They're Isotoner gloves that have something in the finger and thumb that makes it easy to use a touch screen while wearing them. They're $19.99 on the website, there's a free ship code on their homepage. My ad says they're $23.99 in store this week. They have alot of colors, too.

I ordered purple ones.

Wow I love all the ideas on here! I too agree everyone does what they can within their budget for Christmas. I know I go overboard. We have two kids DS27 and DD13. With only one child living at home I tend to spoil her even though she doesn't ask for much. She rarely asks for anything when we go out.

My daugher asked for Baley Button Uggs for Christmas. So far I have

Just Dance 2 for Wii (She loves the first version)
Broadway Dance for Wii

Clothes from Aeropostle
PJ top and bottom
Socks
2 Camis
2 Sweaters

Clothes from Abercrombie and Fitch
Sweat Pants
Hoodie
Shirt
Bonus $50 gift card with $100 purchase - Black Friday Special

Kohl's
Infinity scarf (so soft)

Bath and Body Works
2 pairs of socks with non slip soles(new wood floors in the house)

Pink Book light
Pretty Little Liars books# 5 - 8
Mother Daughter Book Club 3 books still need to pick up the fourth in the series.

Need to purchase the Uggs, make up starter kit and see what else I find along the way!:thumbsup2

We fly out on Christmas afternoon to spend Christmas break in WDW. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cloud9:

I totally agree about the coat, there is no way in hades my child would have to wait for a coat and I live in MS so very little chance of snow!

Just because someone spends a lot at Christmas or spends more on a luxury item for their child does not mean they spend that much every day!! Nor does it mean the child doesn't appreciate the gifts and is more than willing to work for things that they don't get for Christmas. My kids have worked and saved for many items they wanted, but they still may get some other expensive thing for Christmas. Right now dd has a stash of money she is saving for an expensive hair straightener, but I will probably locate one for a gift and she can spend her money on something else.

I don't use Christmas as a lesson in working for things. Christmas is when I get to spoil them a bit.

.
Sorry, I was just relating my experience and what I do for my kids. My DD does have a coat, she just doesn't like it now and won't wear it. She has lost every Ipod, Uggs, cell phone and even her drivers permit. She has no interest in using her money to buy replacements and if she gets money for birthdays and happens to purchase something, she eventually loses it within months. She refuses to get a job even though there are many help wanted signs and most of her friends have jobs. If she really wanted something and was saving for it, then I would buy it for Christmas but that is not the case.

Moving on to another forum.....

I think the three of you would enjoy starting a thread called "Patting Ourselves on the Back Because Everyone Else Does It Wrong and WE Do It Right!!":rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Seriously, what's the point of coming on a light-hearted thread about Christmas gift ideas and shaking your finger in everyone's face? Does it make you feel better? You can't possibly know anyone's individual circumstances so what is extravagant for you might be well within reach for someone else.

And who's to say really if one kid learns to appreciate something because she had to wait for it as opposed to another kid who had it handed to her? It just sounds judgemental to me.

But I do have to say it would be a cold day in hell before I would make my child wait to wear a warm coat in the winter. I think that does teach a lesson but it's not one I would want my daughter to learn about me.

Wasn't being judgemental at all...just stating a fact in this home.

But HOW judgemental you are--suggesting DD has to wait to get a warm coat. She HAS a perfectly acceptable coat, but asked for one that is a bit dressier.

Please don't accuse others of being judgemental when you are being just that.

Well, I have totally gone overboard, again......

DD (9):

Diary of Wimpy Kid boxset, plus new book;
Chronicles of Narnia boxset;
Tinkerbell movie;
Toy Story 3 movie;
2 DS games;
2 Wii games;
ITouch (3rd gen)
Itunes cards
Docking station/boombox
AG Kirsten Doll (discontinued) and accessories
Stocking Stuffers (Itouch stuff and candy)

DD (13):

Hunger Games Boxset;
Kodak Easy Share red camera bundle. It's the new red one with a case, and card;
Itune cards;
IPhone 4 and 2 years of service...I have told her for 2 years there was no way in H*LL she was getting one!:rotfl::rotfl: Big Surprise!!!

Yes, this is too much, but I don't buy for them things like this except for Christmas. I like to see their expressions on Christmas morning and they do still appreciate it.

I think she was referring to the poster who stated her daughter doesn't have a coat and has to wait until Christmas to get a new one because she has already spent her clothing allowance. At least that is how I read it.

DD12 wanted a pair of EMUs instead of UGGs. I am so glad, since 6pm.com has them really cheap. She will also get the UDraw for the Wii with a couple of games. Those will be her big gifts this year. She has also asked for gift cards for after Christmas clothes shopping (she takes after me in bargain shopping) and I got her speaker set for the iPod in her room. She just had her birthday so Christmas is hard for me. She is spending some of her birthday money to buy things for a local animal shelter and I think I might sponsor an animal through WWF.

There was no mention of that in your first post. You said your daughter was getting a winter coat for Christmas and you hoped it didn't get too cold or snow before Christmas because she would not get it until then.

It wasn't your coat post I was referring to, KKB.

:thumbsup2Yes, thank you.

My apologies if I misunderstood that quote.

Hmm... I think we all need to just stop and accept we can't agree on this one and that's okay. I still need to find a shirt (always out of stock) from my daughter's list. Although, I did get the number one thing she wanted, the Sephora make-up.

Awesome gift for that age group! If she hasn't read the books, I hope she loves them! :goodvibes

Thanks! She has read the first, Hunger Games. She is in advanced reading in 7th grade and the class read it. She loves it and is hooked. She borrowed the second from a friend and is reading it now. Some books I believe should be bought and kept to read and reread. This seems to be one of those sets of books.

I don't remember anyone ever (on this or other threads) criticizing anyone for "spending too little" on their kids, but I have seen plenty of criticism for supposedly "spending too much".
;)

That said, there have been some great ideas on this thread!

Ahh, well now see that makes more sense. I was picturing your poor daughter shivering in the cold. My apologies! :flower3:

My younger ds has lost every watch or piece of jewelery he has ever gotten. He takes them off and puts them "somewhere" never to be seen again. He is 26 and I still won't buy him jewelery for Christmas! So, I do understand the losing everything bit.

I have often wondered what makes some kids lose everything and some seem to. He always seemed to really appreciate the watch and really like it, but after awhile he would lose it EVERY TIME! And then he wouldn't tell me right away, so by the time I knew it was missing there wasn't much chance in finding the thing!! :headache:

My daughter wants UGGs too. The last time I bought them, I bought a size bigger. She did get good wear out of them. When she grew out of them I actually wore them b/c they were my size :)

I am looking for ideas!! :confused3 I know she isn't getting some of the things on her list, like Miss Me Jeans or Uggs. Hello, she hasn't stopped growing! :laughing: I know I am going to get her a cute make-up bag and maybe a high school hoodie, she will go into 9th grade next year. But, I really can't think of much after that. I am sure I will find plenty on Black Friday. But, I don't just want to by stuff that will just sit untouched.

My 14 year old is a 9th grader. She's getting an IHome Alarm clock, a snuggie, Band Hero, Epic Mickey Game, Scrabble Flash, and clothes.
