Pardon the stupid question here,
In another post here I was reading someone mentioned "tapping light up ice cubes" What are these? :confused3 in 6 trips to WDW, I have never seen such a thing and we try to do different resturants every year. Can someone post a picture? These sound interesting and am trying to budget money for most of my souvineers ahead of time.
Thanks!

I got one in a cocktail at the Coral Reef restaurant in Epcot. Sorry, no pic. but it's the size of a normal square ice cube. You get a good grip on it and slam it down onto a hard surface and it lights up. You do it again to turn it off. Pretty cool! :smooth:

They are available in some specialty drinks at various restaurants for an extra cost, and all the ones we saw lit up blue. the two places I remember seeing them were Coral Reef (we ended up with twelve by the end of the trip . . . they used to be free and we ate there quite a bit!) and Sci-Fi (where this geek ordered one in a glass of milk for the ultimate nerd drink after riding Star Tours). :teeth:

we also got one at prime-time cafe

on our last trip somehow the cubes got left on in the luggage and lost their glow (you tap them on and off). I finally--after much grief and consternation ended up ordering some at home. A whole pack of them was about the price of one of the "gow" drinks pirate:

Here's a link, although i think I ordered from a different company

So do you say you want these in your drink? or are the menu items titled something like glowing margarita?, flashing coke? and how hard to they have to be tapped (or hit) to turn on or off? If I out them in my carryon or turned off in mu checked luggage will they die in flight? Also, about how long do they last given normal use and transportation? Sorry for so many questions but I think these would be great to show up with back at work. A little Dinsey in Minnesota.
Thanks!

From what I remember, they're pretty easy to spot on the menu. I would guess they won't be allowed in a carry on because they have liquid inside as I remember. But, that's just a guess. We brought our home in our checked bags and they were fine. You have to tap fairly hard for them to come on.

We got ours last October and both still work. Although the red one does have to be hit more than once to get it on. As far as how hard to tap them to get them on, not too hard. We just give them a little tap on our palm and they come on.

We got ours at Sci Fi, and they put them in glow in the dark cups as well. The cups glow forever I suppose? They are just that white/green glow material and they absorb light and glow in the dark.

Don't quote me but it seems when we got ours they were listed on the menu (Prime Time Cafe) as "Electric Lemonade". The grandsons love them...I keep them in a bowl on the book shelves with antenna toppers (which make fun, inexpensive souvenears [sic]) and they will go get them and light them up for a few minutes every so often. I'll probably get more next time so there are replacements when these burn out.

I also got them light up glasses at the Rainforest Cafe at the Mall of America...they love them too.

What about buying them in someplace like DTD? Or do you have to get them in a drink?
Thanks Again!

I got them before at Sci-Fi and also at 1900 Park Fare. I've seen the glow drinks on the menu at a lot of Disney restaurants. If you're not sure, ask a CM.

I don't believe they're sold by themself anywhere at Disney- they just put them in the drinks.

They don't really scream Disney to me-- nothing is printed on them. They're just glowing "ice" cubes. They can be frozen (there's some sort of gel in them). You can buy them at party stores or on-line. I've even seen them at Target one summer.

My niece got one in her sprite at Chef Mickey's but we had to ask server about them.

She also got one at:
Scifi dine in
Prime Time 50's in her mickey bebop drink (cherry sprite)

Hi neighbor!

As stated above, I have never seen them for sale at WDW. To my knowledge you can only get them in your drinks at restaurants. However, also as stated above you can find them at many places from your home.

I never heard about getting them at Chef Mickey's, I guess I will have to ask when I get there. :) How much do these cost? I will have to buy it for 5 girls!!!!

My son got the northern lights(rootbeer float with the cube in it) drink at le cellier in 2005 and just last July. I noticed that they changed the cubes his new one has a button on it to turn it off and on and it has like 3 flash modes.

Found this on the Sci-Fi drink menu:

Cosmic Concoctions - $ 9.50

Lunar Landing - amaretto, peach schnapps and orange juice

The Comet - rum, vodka, gin and tequila topped off with sour mix and cranberry juice

Space Invaders - A premium blue margarita

Marsha's Martian - chocolate and vanilla shakes mixed with Bailey's Irish Cream and Kahlua

Space Monkey - chocolate shake, Malibu rum, and banana liqueur

Orbiting Oreos - Oreo shake mixed with Godiva chocolate liqueur

Solar Eclipse - strawberry shake blended with banana liqueur

The Milky Way - chocolate shake blended with peppermint schnapps

* Above beverages served with a glow in the dark cube!

You might try the Rainforest Cafe. I was just at the one at Mall of America the other day but never thought to look for them there, but I know they have the glowing glasses, so they might also have the ice cubes, and if they do, they might have them in the store section (they sell the glasses in the store section). There are two Rainforest Cafes at Disney World, one at Downtown Disney and one at Animal Kingdom and you don't have to eat there to shop there, so it's worth a look!

I do recall a CM telling us that Disney adds $2 or maybe $2.50 per drink with them. This was a couple years ago, but he said you could order the same drinks with out them for less. This was at the Prime Time cafe (we were sitting at the bar area while waiting for our table).

A few days later we saw the same thing at Old Towne (in Orlando) for a fraction of the cost. It was a few years ago, but they were more like 2 for a $1.

For some people, they are part of the Disney experience, but you could really get them a LOT cheaper through mail order or the internet.

They do not have any liquid. They are plastic with an LED light. The same technology that is in those balls (the ones where you bounce them on the ground and they start to blink).

I got a red one in a drink at Prime Time Cafe in February. Still have it and, as of last night, still works. FYI, the one I have you don't have to tap it to turn it on. It actually has a button on the bottom that cycles through about 2 blinking light patterns and 1 "always on" mode.

My kids each got one in July at the Spirit of Aloha show. They are the ones with the button on the bottom, and the 3 different flash modes. They each got a different color: red, blue, and green.
