We are very interested in DVC but am somewhat new to this forum. Just catching bits in many postings about "not liking the new changes" or "maybe purchasing now is not best because of the changes".

Can anyone enlighten me in what "changes" mean. We are considering BLT.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Wait-List policy. Here is link and this is link is also where you can ask

Why BLT?

Just take a good look at the 2010 points chart at BLT and base your decision on that, as I'm sure you were already doing. Changes happen once in a while but if it was me that was really interested in buying in, I'd look at the points charts, $$ per point and MF and base my decision on that, not the "thoughts of the day".

Good luck and happy planning.

Yeah, don't get caught up with all the emotions of some on this board, do your research, then make your decison.

Good luck!

Remember regardless of what you read on here. The sky is not falling.

These threads take on a life of thier own and often show very little understanding of the product folks bought. That's why doing research is vital, then take the "complaints' on the DIS divide by 50% and see what you think.

Seriously I have never found the changes to be as horrid as the DIS does.

For example for a lot of us the "new" points allocation will be better. And the waitlist wailing... well thats one of the "buy where you want to stay points". Generally if you do that and book in advance you won't waitlist. If you don't and your like me and don't really care where you stay probably not a huge issue either. (I have a little of both. I book my Food/Wine trip 10 months or so in advance to get my BCV and then just randomly book other things wherever I can find a room LOL!)

As I noted to you in another post we too are making the decision on buying into DVC. I will say however that over the past five years that I have been wanting to buy in, the DVC has implemented changes that are well within their rights to do so. What has some people upset is that they have done many of them in a short period of time after keeping DVC relatively the same for a long time. The part that scares us is that if you do your research as everyone here is suggesting, you will find that DVC can basically do anything they want. It just isn't a guarantee that it will be the same over the life of the contract.

I know everyone is pretty much blaming the new owners for being angry about the point chart changes saying they should have known this was coming REGARDLESS of what their guide told them. I think that is a bit sleazy as I have been to numerous presentations and never been told (after asking directly) that they could change what it costs to stay on a week night in one bedroom at such and such resort during such and such season. They always said the dates could change in the season but not the points. I have never read the fine print of a contract because we haven't actually gone to buy yet. So we did rely on the Guide to tell us the truth. I don't think they purposely told us a lie, I think they just didn't make it clear that this was a possibility. The guides on the Cruise Ship, clearly were giving the impression that points would not change in their presentations. So do the research, but know that DVC can change and implement new policies as they wish because they have the contract set up that way. It doesn't sound like you have any real rights EXCEPT to stay in the resort you bought. So I agree with the other posters to buy where you want to stay. Good Luck!

Cmbar - sorry been around a long time - and don't like the points changes - especially at BLT....

they are basically robbing the poor (people with just enough) to give to the rich (people who stayed weekends anyway)

that is not fair.

they are definitely trying to make DVC only a place where the rich can stay. THis is coming on slowly - but it is becoming more and more evident.

now if you plan was to stay a week or more - you will be fine. If only Sun-thursday - then guess what you will need more points.

now the change is not unexpected - been expecting this for years. but the timing is downright commerical.

they waited until after we brought points before 100 points only - then raised the points. before then a few people might have gotten upset - but not the out cry it has been.

so now at BLT if you didn't buy enough 60 * 2 - now would need 65 * 2 - tried to get them to agreed to a 25 point add on. DISNEY refused.

so did my guide, if that helps the guide who brought are in the same mess. she tried to get them to agreed before I even called her.

never consider suing anyone - but just might over this.

Wow I know we aren't supposed to talk about this on another thread, but that is just not right! If I buy BLT then should I be afraid they can change the points on me again? I was going for the 160 minimum because it got us a one bedroom for five nights or a week in a studio in Magic Season. That now is 170 and the resort isn't even open yet. We were so close to purchasing on Jan 15th worrying about a price increase, little did we know there would be a point increase for the time we wanted!! If we had we would have been short 10 points. So sorry about your situation. That is not right.

You have to be Joking? Take from the poor to give to the rich and only a place the rich can stay.

There are no such motives or agendas , DVC is just trying to correct a situation that they created , the Sun -Thurs traveler. DVC created this traveler by lowering the point minimums from 230 and the way out of whack pointstructure for weekends. This created an imbalance in occupancy and resulting in reservation difficulties for many. In order for it to work there will need to be another reallocation bringing the WD to WE nights even closerm they shouldn't be equal (to prevent florida w/e only stays becomng to common) but still need to be closer than the 2010 levels.

I also think the % of Sun- Thur travelers on these boards is probably higher than the overall DVC total.

the facts speak for themselves.

disney first say that the weekends were higher to kept the locals from getting all the weekends.

has this changed - no

what has changed is the management at DVC - that seems to want to change the membership.

a 100 point add on at BLT - don't be surprised if this goes to other DVC resorts before the year is over.

making DVC cost more when the economy is in a downturn. who can still afford it? people who don't have to worth about their salaries or being laid off.
