We are taking DS to DLR/Legoland for his birthday and have told him he will be able to do some shopping at Legoland for his own birthday presents.

Just wondering what the shops are like? We have a Lego store in our local mall but it is smallish and pretty sparse. Are the prices the same? more??? Do they sell stuff other than Legos??

I don't know that they have much more than a Legoland store. They do have a lot of t-shirts, as well as other non-Lego souvenier type merchandise. They have a pick-a-brick store as well, but so does the Legoland in the mall. I can't comment on the prices.....sorry. I was definitely not blown away by the shops....the Lego store in Downtown Disney was better than anything at Legoland. But we absolutely loved our day at Legoland. Have a wonderful trip!

I agree that the Lego store at Downtown Disney is better in terms of # of Lego sets available. The stores at Legoland had some great shirts as mentioned, with similar prices to other Lego stores. The photo books, postcards, magnets, etc were cute. Target/Walmart is slightly cheaper on some items than what we saw in the park stores last week, but not by much, and not at all on most items. I thought the build your own mini figure was way better at Legoland than in the standalone stores.

One TIP: My kids are obsessed with the mini-figures, and you usually have to buy a high end kit to get one. The keychain mini figures are ~6 bucks each, and have moveable legs and arms like a real mini figure but do not come apart. They do snap into standard lego bricks though, and we used wire cutters to cut off the chain. Now we have 11 new star wars figures (including Leia in a bikini, weirdly a big hit with my 3 yr old), and they look exactly like real mini figures except for a small metal loop in their heads ;)

So the kids and I went back to Legoland last weekend. Stayed at the Holiday Inn using Priceline bidding.

My son is a major legomaniac. Definitely there are sets that you don't see at Target. At least not at my local Target. Liked seeing the LegoArchitecture series and the grander age 16+ sets of the Eiffel Tower and what not. Its fun to look but I'm not ready to plunk down $$$ for those. Bionicles are the boy's current obsession; he found a set on sale for $19.99 that we have never seen before and getting it for that price...well...it was a no brainer. The fact that they do put some things on sale...really on sale...is quite nice as its hard to find any Lego merch on sale around my area.

There are also lots of costume stuff (knights/princesses), T-shirts, lego baking sets, keychains, magnets, and other plastic stuff. Like disney, you will have your photo taken at inopportune times on the major rides and you can buy them as a souvenir. Roxy has a shop in the park for summery stuff. Also you can buy swim suits/beachtowels if the weather is warm and you forgot to prepare yourself for getting wet in the Pirate area.

Its such a laid-back park compared to Disneyland. Its kind of weird!

Just the thread I was looking for. Thanks!.:worship:

My son really wants to get some more minfigs, so it is better to buy them at Legoland? Do they sell them seperatly ( I like the idea of the keychain) How much for one minfig?

Could someone tell me more about the pick a brick? Selection and prices. Ian is saving all his birthday money and job money and I want him to be able to spend it at the right place, DTD or Legoland.;)

Thanks so much!

I thought the Legoland store was more expensive than the Lego STORE.

The pick a brick at legoland is sold by weight...I can't remember what they charged (something like $7.99 per QUARTER pound). The pick a brick selection at Legoland was huge....

The key chain guys at Legoland were $5.99 and at our local Lego store are $4.99.

The Legoland store does NOT accept gift cards purchased at Lego stores (we brought GC's for DS and were told by 2 different people at Legoland they couldn't accept them). You also cannot use Lego coupons from the Lego store at Legoland.

regarding mini-figures...
There was a store in the back of the park where you could build your own mini-figure. I think you had to do 3 at a time....they were sold with little boxes to hold the 3 figures. I can't recall the price. We didn't build any, but I'm sure my kids would have loved doing it....
