What are the rules with pets at the Fort?

Blueeyedgirl, welcome. Hmmmmmm, lets see, dogs don't talk back, get wildly drunk in the middle of the night, have unruly kids that run unsupervised through your campsite, etc., etc. Don't get me wrong, we had 4 kids and love them dearly. Now being empty nesters, and enjoying it, we certainly love our little dogs, as we also love our grandchildren. As to the allergy, I can understand that. Are you allergic to dogs from 20' and outside to boot? That must be a baaaaad allergy. I wouldn't sweat the pet owners at FW, from what I've seen they are a good bunch of folks. I would watch out for those SNAKES crawling around.....

Yea, I would really watch out for those brown snakes. They may not bite, but if you step on one it can get real nasty.

ANIMALS don't talk back, or any of that other stuff for sure! we human beings are the ones who do that... you know, some people have terrrrrrrrible allergies. i mean, life or death allergies... like i said before, i've not had any personal problem with pet owners and it's nice to know you, lynndiwagon, count yourself among the good bunch! never seen any snakes...yet!!!!!!!

i was just telling lynndiwagon that i've never seen any snakes, brown or any color, at fort wilderness, but i have a brother-in-law who has a BAAAAAAAD problem with those brown ones back at home.

how are the cabins REALLY at fort wilderness? not what the sites say, an actual personal description.

Ha ha ha here we go with the snakes.. DH and I almost ran over a snake with our golf cart after returning from watching the fireworks and because ppl walk on the path alot we turned around to put the headlights on it so no one would step on it and called the front desk.. well someone decided that they wanted to keep it as a pet and put in a bag on the front of their bike.. of course I asked if it was poisnous and they said no that it was just a coral snake! I was just thinking to myself that reguardless if it was poisnous or not it still can bite! The snake was not too happy when it was picked up either!!

We also seen a gator at the pet area in the 300 loop.. here are a few pics of it!

Okay... whoever picked up the snake didn't know anything about coral snakes because... they are extremely poisonous and it's very doubtful a coral snake would be slinking anywhere near pavement. They ususally burrow just beneath the the soil or leaves. They don't care for open exposure.

As far as the otters go... they were on the other side of the canal with rifles sighted on the gator. Gators are the otters favorite snack!

Now, the king snake which looks very similiar is not poisonous. I for one forget which band color scheme is which so I dont mess with ANY SNAKE.

Growing up in S. FL this I do know....

Red and Black, vennom lack. Red and Yellow, kill a fellow.
If the red bands touch black bands your ok(if you like snakes to begin with), if the red touches yellow stay away.
