What are the options for a picky eater?

I'm a *very* picky eater-will I still be able to find some choices at the different restraunts in WDW? To give you an idea, I don't eat anything green, don't like my food to touch-those are the two biggest ones.

Thanks everyone....I'm ready for the jokes too ;)

Oooh! I'm such such SUCH a picky eater! My favourite restaurants are the ones with buffets because the childrens' corner is usually where I wind up. Chef Mickey's and 1900 Park Fare are 2 of my faves. I would say for the others to study the menus like crazy and see what you like. That's what I do. I also check the children's menus because they'll usually just give you an adult sized portion. Also, most places will modify their dishes for you if they can. Don't worry, you'll hardly starve! You'll have a fabulous trip!:thumbsup2

Disney is very good at making accomadations.

No green veggies is doable (but some places it might mean not getting one at all - at Coral Reef, my parents had both had enough brocolini to last them a lifetime and the only substitution available was green beans which for them was great - for you not so much).

My mom also has issues with food touching and the restaurants have been very good - some even going so far as to offer separate plates for each item.

I wouldn't worry.

You sound like me (sometimes I even put things on separate plates if I think they might touch and yes, syrup goes in a separate bowl - DH thinks I'm a freak)! I also don't eat any veggie except corn (which I know doesn't even really count). I also don't eat seafood, so call me a meat and carbs girl. We've eaten at a majority of the restaurants in Disney and I've always found something to eat. Never been a problem. They're also very good at not including things on dishes or substituting. In fact, I love eating in the World and look forward to it!

I don't eat seafood, I like corn and potatoes, and I really hate everything else. I really don't like cheese (except on pizza and grated on pasta) and the only fruits I like are oranges, apples, pinapple and CERTAIN bananas.

OP, dont be worried about being picky, you will be fine. Disney is very very accomadating and very helpful, why wouldn't they be, picky or not you're still paying money to eat! :rotfl:

Another "no veggie" person here. I worried about what I was going to eat on our first trip, but had no shortage of food. I like meats but don't like weird sauces on them. I usually just got meat and substituted french fries for all the veggies.

WOW I really didn't think there would be so many adults that don't eat vegetables or practically anything??? That just seems really odd to me and unhealthy. I can and do make a meal just out of veggies. Do you not try different foods. I am usually willing to try something new - admit I don't eat all veggies but I don't eat all meats either. But I try to give everything at least a shot.

I try everythign ecause if I dont I wont eat at my DBFs family things,i just dont like most of it haha:goodvibes

I don't like my food to touch each other either!!! I don't remember having problems with that at WDW though.

The girls at work make fun of me, one bought me a divided plate as a joke, but I use it every time we have a carry-in dinner!!!

megveg - you sound like me I don't eat breakfast food, pork, sea food, any type of sauce/gravy on my meat, mushy food (bannas), no cream cakes or pies, nothing with flavors like sweet & sour or hot & sour, nothing on my pizza but chesse, the list goes on...

DF is the anti-me and loves to try new things. We went on the dining plan in Nov and had a great time. All the restaurants were very helpful and understanding.

In fact for my salad at the Grand Flordian Cafe they had a dressing I would not eat and the salad was mainly fruit not veggies so I asked our waitress if I could get ranch and just none of the fruit. She said "sure, did you like veggies though?" and I answered yes. Well when she come out with the appetizers she said sorry for taking so long, it was just she felt bad about my salad only consisting of literally salad and dressing so she had them add cucumber, carrots, onion, and baby tomatoe so it would be so plain. I thanked her alot, it made me feel really good.

We are a family of extremely picky eaters :goodvibes

WDW is wonderful about working with you to make your meals fabulous. Never be afraid to ask to substitute the veggie you don't like with something else. Or to have something left off if you don't care for it. You can also ask for the sides to be well "on the side" to avoid the mixing problems ;)

I dug up a couple of my old dining reports from a picky eater perspective. They are listed below:

That's so great! I don't eat seafood either-sometimes I'll get brave and try some fish maybe. DS has a ton of allergies too so that limits what's in our house. I love meat and carbs...not the healthiest option but I'm still alive so it's ok

I try and "sneak" veggies in. I know it's healthier to eat fresh veggies and such but I can't bring myself to do it. Honestly, I think it's because my parents made me sit at the table until EVERYTHING on my plate was gone and I can remember sitting at the table litterally choking down the veggies then going to the bathroom and throwing up. (gross I know-sorry!) Because of this, I have a bit of a different take on foods...I'm trying very hard not to pass this on to my boys!

I can't wait to read your trip reports!

If you like meat and potatoes then try Biergarten!! You don't have to eatthe sauerKraut! Their roast pork was to die for!

The only thing I dont eat is seafood(shellfish allergy), and a few exotic things. My sister when she was like 4 wouldn't let her food touch, but she outgrew that. Our nutritionist would have a fit trying to figure out a healthy diet plan for someone who eats no veggies of any kind. My parents made us eat everything served also, but I found veggies I liked and learned to like more as an adult. My kids were somewhat picky but once they grew up they expanded what they will eat and I never forced them to eat everything, just try a bite. My DH had to learn to eat green veggies because his mom though corn and potatoes fulfilled the veggie requirement which they don't by a long shot. There are so many wonderful things to try at new restaurants. You can usually get burgers, chicken and fries or baked potato almost anywhere, but I can get those at home, so I rarely eat them when I vacation.

No offense intended...but you self-proclaimed "picky eaters" are missing out on a world of amazing flavors! Why not try to expand your horizons and go for something a bit beyond what you usually eat? A few weeks ago, I was visiting my DD in the big city (I live in a town of 5k, 5 pizza places, 3 burger joints, KWIM??) and she insisted, really truly insisted, that I go with her to her favorite Sushi restaurant. I have had sushi before; the first time I thought it was ok, the second was NASTY. I steadfastly refused. But I finally relented, and ate some salmon carpaccio (sp) and some kind of tuna. Didn't care for the tuna, but the salmon...WOW. What a buttery, yummy burst of flavor. The next morning when I woke up my first thought of the day was "man, that was good; I would love to have some more!" Now I can't WAIT for the Cali Grill on my next trip!

To the OP:
I'm a picky eater too. I have a hard time finding more than 1 thing on each menu so I carefully review each menu for something I know that I will like. For my upcoming trip (look forward to my picky eater's review) I have 2 ADRs and will mostly be eating as CS places, because that's the kind of food I like.

The the Judgmental Posters:
A lot of us picky eaters DO try other foods, we just don't enjoy them. I will try anything that anyone has to offer me. I just find that most of it isn't appealing to me. So don't assume we are just being stubborn because we don't like the foods that you do.

DIsney is very accomodating. If you like the beef, but not the sauce, ask for it plain or sauce on the side if you want to try it.

If you want to make sure nothing touches, ask for it to be in a separate dish, nothing wrong with that at all.

Enjoy your vacation!

I honestly don't understand why anyone would come on a thread labeled "options for picky eaters" and make comments like (try it you may like it) or (that can't be a healty way to live) ect ect....

If your not going to be helpful... ie. restaurants with choices, ect. then I just don't get it :confused3 :confused3 :confused3
