What Are The DVC Membership Cards Used For?

Being a new member, I'm not quite sure what these are used for. Obviously, they state that I'm a member. However, do I need to have this with me at all times when in the World? Does it give me unlimited use of fastpass? (Just Kidding)

You must show it for many of the discounts, especially the AP discount. More and more frequently we are asked for our member card instead of a room key showing DVC member for discounts.

DH had to use his for the preview to Expedition Everest ;)

We've used it for renting the raycers also. To prove we were DVC members.

Best use? Wedge it into the spokes of a surrey bike and watch the unwitting people strolling the Boardwalk scatter as you roar by.

I use my card constantly for restaurant discounts at WDW.

There are also selected restaurants in Hilton Head, South Carolina that accept the card for discounts too.

My best use...

let it fall out of your wallet and then brag to other about how you own a piece of Disney and can travel there whenever you like!

I carry the card at all times.

Hello! New DVC member with a card related question! I realize that as a member you get discounts on merchandise/dining etc. and all that will be detailed in the info I get from Disney but have the amount or types of discoutns ever changed or are they a part of your contract? Secondly, are there special "unique" perks that Disney has done in the past for DVC members? If so any examples of things we could look forward to?

The perks can and do change, no discounts are guarateed in our contracts. The current AP discount of $100 just started in 2005, prior to that we received 10% off length of stay passes. Those LOS type passes were discontinued when they introduced the current Magic Your Way pass system. Dining Discounts also change from time to time, as do shopping discounts.

Linda Scolaro, my wonderful guide at DVC told me to wave that thing everywhere I dine or shop at Disney. It doesn't always help, but you don't want to miss a discount. I got a surprise at DTD and got a discount on our lunch that I didn't expect.

They are not part of the contract, and are subject to change. Yes, they have changed over the years.

DVC does some 'unique' things on occassion. A couple of years ago they started having a free 'members merry mixer' several times in December. Basically a get-to-gether outside the IG entrance to Epcot (the old tram boarding area when trams use to run between Swan/Dolphin and epcot).
They have refreshments, character greetings, etc. Hopefully they'll continue that. There have been preview events open to members (and also annual pass holders) such as the early opening for Expedition Everest.

The annual meetings are open to all members.

They've also done some special things for members only, but were a 'fee' event. The biggest of these is the annual DVC cruise, where the entire ship is taken over by DVC members.

I know there's other things but just can't remember for now. They often do have special 'pins' that you can only purchase if you're a member.

This past trip we got the most use out of our Member Card!! I saved $7.00 at Virgin Records on cd's. We also saved $8.00 at the Downtown Disney McDonalds!!! Seriously worth showing the card. When you check in, they will give you a Member Perks booklet. You should sit down for a few minutes and read it. It is broken out by parks, restaurants, entertainment etc. Show your card and save!!! :thumbsup2
