OK, what are the absolutely, do not miss meals at disney (breakfast, lunch, or dinner)? We are going for the first time in May - we want to make only a select few reservations (we are spontaneous eaters you could say) so we want to make sure we make em count (something we could all enjoy - mom, dad, and 3 children)

thanks,
camtheriot

I haven't been in a million years, but I'll tell you what I booked based on my own research:

Chef Mickey's. (I chose dinner, but breakfast would be as good.)
Le Cellier
Fantasmic Dinner Package at Hollywood and Vine
Coral Reef
'Ohana
1900 Park FAre- dinner w/ Cinderella and the stepsisters.

If I had to shortlist 5-

Ohana Dinner
Boma Dinner
Crystal Palace lunch or dinner
Cinderellas Breakfast
Spoodles Dinner

Definantly Chef Mickey's. At least once.
Concourse Steakhouse
O'Bama's
The concourse steakhouse is closed..and I guess you mean O'Hana's (Poly)?? Or Boma's (AKL)??

I like CRT either for Breakfast or dinner..the food is good and it is a great experience..Any of the character meals are worth doing for the atmosphere. As far as great food...I wasn't that impressed..I liked Le Cellier and I am going to try, in August, Teppan Edo's in Epcot's Japan..I heard the food is great and it is fun for the kids..it is hibachi style. I am also doing The Hoop Dee Doo Review which I heard is excellent...;)

I think it depends on if you have kids or not too.
Also if you are on the dining plan, I would book all table service meals ahead of time.

Last trip we did Chef Mickey's for Breakfast...very fun atmosphere, DD3 loved it..I didn't find the food to be all that great, but it was OK.

Crystal palace..I did enjoy the food here. And agian DD loved the characters. We had a good time here.

Capn Jacks at DTD...OK. I enjoyed my food, But DH wasn't impressed with what he got. We most likely won't visit it again though.

This trip we are trying Hoop Dee Doo revue, Whispering Canyon, 1900 Park fare, and Garden Grill.

There are so many.............but here are my favorites.

Chef Mickeys
Coral Reef
Ohana

I would consider Le Cellier since everyone rave's over it, but I haven't eaten there myself.

Chef Mickeys for kids.
Crystal Palace.
Definately do a Princess meal if you have Daughters.
LTT was good.

I have to agree with all the posters who said Chef Mickey's. This is a must do EVERY trip for us! We just love the atmosphere and for buffet food I find it to be pretty good. I don't think it is reasonable to expect buffet food to be outstanding, kwim?

Our favorites:

Coral Reef
Le Cellier
Crystal Palace
Chef Mickey's
Kona
Boma
Lunch at Cinderella's Royal Table

Our favorite Breakfast: Boma's (best buffet we have ever had)

Favorite Lunch: Liberty Tree Tavern (family style, comfort food)

Favorite Dinner: California Grill during the fireworks at MK (hands down for us)

There are many very good restaurants, but these are my family's favorites.

Chef Mickey's - breakfast

CRT - breakfast ( Norway is a good alternative)

Le Cellier - dinner ( or lunch if you can't get dinner)

California Grill - dinner

1900 Park Fare - dinner ( we liked the breakfast too but the dinner now has the stepsisters and wicked stepmother)

We usually do CS for lunches so I'm not much help with TS lunch!
My kids love Toy Story Pizza Planet for CS lunch ,although some people don't like it , it is one we do almost every trip!

Hope you have a great trip!:)

Crystal Palace Breakfast, especially since you have kids. The food and service are both excellent and you get to meet Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet, and Tigger.

Another great thing about it is that you get to be inside MK before it opens. We got some great pictures of the castle in an empty park.

You don't mention the ages of your kids or your budget...

HDDR is our absolute favorite dining experience...no, make that overall experience, in all of WDW. It is a dinner show at Fort Wilderness that costs quite a bit of time and $$, but is well worth it, in our opinion. The food is not gourmet, but it's always been very good bbq ribs, fried chicken served in buckets, corn bread, salad, strawberry shortcake. The show is corny and silly, but we love it every time.

You might want to do one or 2 character meals, depending upon where you'll be or where you're staying, or which characters your kids like. We love to go to Chef Mickey's on our first night, it really gets us in the Disney mood. We have found that our experience is better in the main dining room as opposed to one of the side rooms, so if you go, politely ask to wait for a table in the main room. We've found more attention from the characters, plus you can watch the monorail gliding overhead. Another great character meal is Crystal Palace with Pooh and friends, and I've heard that 1900 Park Fair is fun and has great food, but I've never been.

Princess dining in the castle (CRT) is very special (you get to dine IN THE CASTLE!), and Akershus in Norway also has princesses in an interesting setting.

'Ohana is a fun restaurant in the Poly (you have to check out the Poly at night for its view of the lagoon, Electrical Water Pageant, and view of Wishes). The food is very good and they have fun games for kids.

Boma at AKL is very unique and California Grill has beautiful view of MK and Wishes.

I wouldn't call anything a "can't miss," you're in WDW, no family vacation is going to be a bust because you missed a good restaurant. We're trying all new places next time. Enjoy!

:thumbsup2 For us... the "do not miss" TS places are:

Boma's
Crystal Palace
50's PT Diner

These places are all on our ADR list TWICE for our 2008 trip! :goodvibes

If you don't mind spending a lot, try to get to the California Grill in the Contemporary Resort. You can check out the menus on allearsnet.com. It is by far the BEST food in all of WDW in our opinion. Book it on a night with Wishes - they have an observatory deck where you can watch the show and it's amazing!

We always do Chef Mickey's or Crystal Palace for breakfast. Other goodies are Grand Floridian Cafe and Kona Cafe (Polynesian). If you're looking to save money, make ressies for lunch and not dinner. It's not as expensive and usually a lot of the same entrees, just smaller portions.

There are so many great places to eat in Disney. I love Chef Mickey's, 1900 Park Fare, the fast food type place in Japan in Epcot(my fave), Mexican place across from Pirates of the Carribean, Rose and Crown, Sci-Fi Dinner Theatre in MGM. There are so many more. After all you eat you'll be glad that you're walking.:rotfl2:

You don't mention the ages of your kids or your budget...

My children are ages 8yr (son), my daughter will be making 3 on May 15(which makes this trip kindof a birthday celebration also - we will be there April 30 - May 7) and my youngest son will be 9 mo at the time.

Our budget - moderate

Thanks to everyone, this is helping me to make some decisions on meal choices. So far Chef Mickeys and HDDR are on our list. And a character breakfast - not sure which one yet.:scratchin
