What are the Deluxe Villas? Are they vacation club? What makes them different than standard rooms? And why don't I already know much about them???
What are the pros and cons of staying in a Villa?

The villas are DVC, however they can be reserved for cash also. Studios are similar to standard rooms except that instead of two beds, there is only one and a pull out sofa. Some also have a single chair that folds out to a single bed. There are others that have a singleish Murphy bed. The only DVC property with two conventional beds in a studio is OKW. Studios are equipped with coffee pots, toasters, microwaves, and small fridges. One and two bedroom villas have fully equipped kitchens that include dishwashers and have washer/dryers in the room. Mouse keeping is very limited.

Yes, what about Mousekeeping?

On stays of shorter than 8 days, they swap out your towels on day 4. If an 8 day or longer stay, then you get full service on day 4. They pick up your garbage every day.

The deluxe villa resorts are also known as the Disney Vacation Club resorts. DVC is Disney's timeshare system.

The resorts offer a home-away-from-home kind of vacation, with studios and 1, 2 or 3 bedroom villas. Studios generally have a queen bed and a sofa bed; some also have an additional pull-down bed. The OKW studios are the only ones with two queen beds. The 1, 2 and 3 bedroom villas have a full kitchen, washer/dryer and most also have a jetted tub. Some have multiple bathrooms (usually as many bathrooms as there are bedrooms, with some exceptions).

You can book deluxe villas in two ways: by renting a reservation from a member (commonly known as "renting points"), or by booking directly with Disney. If you book with Disney, you'll get full daily housekeeping. If you book with a member, you'll get trash service daily, and a full cleaning less often.

And where does Disney get the rooms from? The members who want to rent their rooms? How often are actual members in their own rooms (or does one not get an assigned room, just own DVC In a particular hotel)?

Disney owns 2% of each Vacation Club resort and uses them for cash reservations. More rooms can be freed up by DVC members choosing to use their points to stay in regular resort rooms or on DCL.

DVC is a points system. Members do not have a week, nor do they have assigned villas but they do have ownership in a particular resort. They have an annual allotment of points that they can use to reserve a studio, 1-, 2- or 3-bedroom villa and they can choose from any of the DVC resorts as long as there is availability when their booking window opens. The number of points required is dependent upon the time of year, the resort itself and the type of villa. Additional villas can be released by DVD (Disney Vacation Developement Corp - the developer for the Disney Vacation Club) to Disney if the villas go unreserved 60 days out. The "cash" is used to offset member dues.

The system is designed to be nearly 100% occupied at all times.

Just to clarify a tiny bit on this great explanation. As DVC resorts are being renovated they are replacing the jetted tubs in the Master bath and putting in deep, non jetted soaking tubs.

If you rent a villa directly from Disney you DO get daily mousekeeping. If you rent points from an owner or a company THEN you only get the reduced trash removal/housekeeping on day 4.

If you book with Disney Reservation Center for cash you get daily full housekeeping. If you book with DVC for cash, you get DVC limited housekeeping, just like points stays.

Just booked my first ever cash reservation for 2 Bedroom Villa at BLT. For daily mousekeeping, what does that entail? I get the bed made/sheets changed, garbage taken out, and towels refreshed daily? Do I need to vacuum for myself? Also, I booked a standard view but would be interested in potentially upgrading to a Bay Lake view, should I just keep checking back on the regular to see if a room "opens up" or if I don't see one now it's not going to change? The theme park view is about 2500 more for a week than the standard room and isn't exactly worth it, but Bay Lake seems to be a step in between I might want.

How did you book your stay? If you booked through DVC, you will get the same cleaning schedule as a points stay, every four days. If you booked through Disney Reservation Center, you will get the same cleaning schedule as hotel rooms, daily full cleaning which includes daily replenishment of amenities like towels, shampoo, etc, but not clean sheets every day. You might get the sheets changed every four days or so.

If you're on a cash reservation, you'll get full daily housekeeping, as you would in any Disney resort. The pay-as-you-go housekeeping system is only for stays on points.

Cash reservation in the Disney Reservation system (where you can book the non DVC hotels right?). In a location where not everyone's room is serviced daily, do they tend to get through mousekeeping earlier in the day?

No. They are staffed for the workload. 1, 2, or 3 BR Villas take longer to service than a standard hotel room.

However, a cash reservation through DVC is treated just like a points stay. You get the limited housekeeping that you get with a points stay.

They start at one end and work to the other end. If you are in the middle, you get taken care of mid-day. If you are at the beginning of their workload, you get done earlier. If you are at the end of their row, you get done later. Just like every other housekeeper.
