What are the closest Non DLR hotels to the park?

Well, the absolute closest are Tropicana and Desert Inn, I believe.

But in my experience (and I took pictures with timestamps to show it), the main part of your walk is getting out of the park, through the esplanade, and out to Harbor. After that, you're looking at a difference of 5 minutes, from my experience. And since my experience was while walking very slowly and in pain, thanks to a stupid move I made wearing "cute" and new heeled shoes to a social event the night before we started our park-visiting, it's not b/c I was speedy.

So really, it's not vitally important to get the absolute closest hotel on Harbor, b/c the main part of the walk doesn't involve your actual hotel anyway. IMO.

Oh, and this isn't a perfect map but it's the one I like: map.

We generally stay at HoJo, and it's maybe 5 minutes, if you're in the farthest back building, to walk to the crosswalk in front of Captain Kidd's (don't eat there!).

And if you stay there, you can cut time off by NOT walking down the hotel side of Harbor, but cross over Harbor immediately after leaving HoJo property and walking down the Disney side of Harbor instead, and turning into the walkways near the cab area (you'll see the cabs) rather than going all the way to the crosswalk where everyone else is entering.

BWPPI is right across the street, it's closer than the Trop. But, I'd still rather stay at the HoJo! :)

Try the Anabell...it is pretty nice and you are able to walk. The prices aren't bad either.

tropicana was nice. i'd stay there again. the breakfast wasn't anything fancy...they call it "morning refreshments". the staff was friendly and the room was clean. we're staying at the camelot in december. my sister and her family stayed there back in may and really liked it.

I can recommend the Fairfield Inn. It was close (super easy to walk to), clean and the beds are super comfy! They don't serve breakfast, but there is a fridge in the room. I have stayed at the DLH and GC, honestly for the amount of time you spend in the room, I would go back to the Fairfield in a heart beat! We saved probably $1,000 - $2,000 for the week.

Plus Mimi's is a short walk away for a fabulous breakfast, lunch or dinner at really reasonable prices!

One other thing, they do have room service provided by Millies. We didn't try this but is aways a great option!

I totally dont recommend the Carousel for trust issues, but the Tropicana & Hojo are MINT!!

Yeah, the Carousel doesn't get my vote b/c of both third-party trust problems, but also b/c the smoke detector in my room was so sensitive that it went off b/c of a shower I took! The shower was at around midnight, and NO ONE CAME to my room to check it out. I had to call them! And then they couldn't hear me, but still didn't call back or come up to find out what was going on.

They told me, really lackadaisically (spelling?), that they were worried b/c that evening part of a Las Vegas hotel had burned down...and they were glad I had called them back after I had figured out how to clear the room of steam and get the detector to stop screeching. (which meant opening the door, at midnight, with me in my sleep clothes, when I was ALONE)

They just didn't seem to care.

And their breakfast is awful.

I don't think I could stay at Fairfield b/c of its proximity to McDonald's. As a longtime vegetarian, McD's smells bad to me, and I'd hate to wake up smelling like it (or thinking I smell like it). But that's just me. Seems like a nice motel, other than that. :upsidedow

And I really like the Anabella, and we did walk to and from it without many problems (sure do wish we'd had our own stroller though!). But if someone really wants "walking distance" hotels, I think of Harbor hotels first. The walk from Anabella is a bit long (though still totally doable and refreshing b/c you get to walk under palm trees on a sidewalk that is a huge hidden Mickey, see the Paradise Pier Hotel, go through the GCH and all). But the hotel is lovely, and you can get adult beverages in a "go" cup from their restaurant/bar to take back to your room!

Are you talking about The Anabella? My sister stayed there and said it was very nice. But she also said that she would never stay there again because it was farther than she wanted to be with her young kids. They don't have a shuttle...

Pardon my stupidity, but what do you mean trust issues? You don't trust the people working there?

We stayed there 2 years ago and were happy with it so we're staying again over halloween. Should I be panicking?? I was going to make the comment that I thought it was a good hotel that's close...inquiring minds want to know!

A Diser stayed and had a problem with stuff being taken from her room and then mysteriously returned when they complained.

Like you we have stayed there and had a great stay and as I was in contact with the hotel at the time as I was getting quotes for our stay next year I asked them about it.

My feeling on it is there are two sides to every story (I won't go into detail), but it certainly looks like the hotel management has changed and perhaps standards have gone down since we were there in 2006, I haven't taken them off my possible list of hotels, at the moment we are tossing up between Camelot and Carousel.

Bleh. Well, I'll keep it as is and just lock everything in my luggage. I do that anyway when I travel. :/

Thanks for the info and I'll give an update when I get back. I go in 2 weeks.

We locked the cash, passports and camera into the safe whenever we weren't in the room and hid the laptop in one of the drawers under clothes. I would do that at any hotel we stay at....

I wouldn't be too worried and I really look forward to your report back, we aren't going until June next year and won't be booking till December at the earliest.

Did you know as second time stayer you are entitled to a free upgrade to a club suite.

How do we go about that? We've only ever stayed in a regular 2 queen bed room (both the first stay and the one coming up in 2 weeks). Do we just ask at the desk if there's availability??

Check out their website: www.carouselinnandsuites.com and look under frequent stay rewards program. I would then let them know now see if they can accommodate you. You may need to give them the dates of your first stay.
