What are the chances?

I'm all set to surprise my kids with a trip during Christmas break-even got a room on site, the bad news is the airfare is soooooo expensive. What are the chances that it will drop (dramatically) before the holidays? I'm thinking not to good. Thanks for any info.

Probability is not good as it is a high demand time and likely most discount seats are already taken (and they don't need to discount anything left). However, what you might be able to find at better rates is flights out of Pittsburgh where you need to connect elsewhere to get to Orlando or even direct flights at unfavorable times of day (like leaving at 8 P.m. or after). You should keep checking sites like travelocity.com, expedia.com, orbitz.com, and even the various airlines own sites.

Look for charter companies, too. You'd find their ads in the Sunday travel section of your paper, or a TA could check that option for you. As the holidays draw nearer there will be a promotional airfare offered probably, but the dates will be restrictive. When I was a TA there were always some special for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but it would book so fast and have such limited availability that the vast majority of folks did better simply booking well in advance. If you haven't found anything on your own I really suggest calling a TA and having her keep an eye out for good Orlando rates. Good Luck!

you might try www.hotwire.com We used them last June from DFW to MCO for $149 each. You have to take what you get. We planned to fly in the night before our WDW vacation started and stayed in a hotel near the airport. It was well worth it since the cheapest airfare I had been able to find (before Hotwire) was $252 each.
