What are the chances?

I leave tomorrow morning at 7:00 am. Currently, there are no seats left in coach (except 6 that are able to be upgraded for a fee), there are 20 seats left in first class. What are the chances if we get to the airport at 5:00am, that I will be able to pay for a first class upgrade?

I am not asking for a free one, just a discounted upgrade fee. It seems that with 19 seats open, it would not be hard. But with airlines these days, you never know.

What airline? Not all offer discounted paid upgrades on the day of departure.

As well, there may be people with status who are in line to get them.

I don't recall a time on Airtran where they have ever given a discounted upgrade at time of departure on my flights. It has always been the standard $60.00 from BWI to MCO.

I agree, those seats may be accounted for by people in their frequent flyers club, etc. Remember this is also Mother's Day weekend. Some people may decide to fly out at the last minute to see Mom!:lovestruc

I consider $60.00 to be a discounted upgrade. Anything under $200 is what I am talking about.

Didn't realize you were going on Delta.

The standard upgrading to first class for Airtran, goes in tiers and starts at $40.00, goes to $60.00, and then to $80.00.

I found some information on a travel website.

It says that Delta does not offer upgrades to first class, if you have a L, T, or U ticket. These are the deep discounted tickets. They will offer upgrades whether you are a preferred customer or not.

The cost per upgrade goes by mileage, starting at $50.00 for 500 miles and going up by $25.00 for every additional 500 miles, up to $150.00 for 1500 miles.

I am not sure how far you are from MCO.

Good luck; sounds like it may be promising....

Sorry, I'm not that familiar with Delta's program.

You could give them a call and ask if they allow it. Some airlines don't.

I use Continental and they have a program, which I've used and it's usually about $100 per person EWR-MCO.
