Hello there,

My wife:butterfly, daughter:tinker: and I :tigger:.......aka........

are going to tent camp at Fort Wilderness for a few days next Easter

.

We are visiting from the UK
clothcap.jpg
where we are keen tent campers at home

and Europe

.
For obvious reasons
images2.jpg
we will only have our basic camping kit with us
DSCN0876.jpg
- so we are only doing a 4 day taster at the Fort then a week of R&R at a hotel

.

It is our first visit to WDW, and I have been furiously researching :surfweb: :headache: .

Regarding our camping - I have worked out that it is either loop 1500 or 2000 for us in our tent and that 1500 is probably preferable because it is closer to the Meadow Area. I have read however that the sites next to the main road are noisy
images6.jpg
and that there are other annoyances like car headlights to think about
images8.jpg
.
Anyway, I have marked up a map with the areas that I think would be best for us. I intend to fax it to the Fort a few days before we arrive . Any comments on my mark-up from anyone who knows loops 1500 and 2000 would be very much appreciated.

I also thought that it would be better to request areas rather than give a list of site numbers - any comments?

Note: We have reserved a golf cart
images3.jpg
for the time that we are there so I don't suppose it really matters if we are a bit further away from the Meadow Area (in loop 2000) - what do people think about this?

Also - you will note that my first choice is a creeksite site in 1500 - are there likely to be any problems with mosquitos/no see-ums at this time of year?

Kind regards to anyone taking the time to read this post or make a reply.

Clive,

I have to say I admire you coming all that way to camp at the Fort. It's difficult to request/get specific sites because there are so many variables. But we have had success requesting specific loops and providing additional guidance on our ressie. For examples

- "we request a site near the comfort stations" is a common request
- "we request a site away from the main road because of bus noise"
- "we request a site near the bus stop"
- "we request an internal/external (to the loop) site"
- "we request a site along a canal"
- "we request a big site because our tent is HUGE"

If you asked for a specific site or two and they weren't available, the Fort assigner would have no idea WHY you wanted those and what he might have that is similar. I honestly do believe the Fort assigners try their best to match requests with available sites as long as you are not too demanding.

Based on your drawing it seems like you should request an interior 1500 loop site away from the main road or a canal site in the back.

Good luck and safe travels!

:welcome: Sorry, but I can't help with your questions as we have stayed in the 200 loop for our visits, but I just wanted to say that your bunny is one of the cutest things ever! Sounds like your well on your way to planning a great trip!

LOVE your post!

We were on 1510 last time (November 2008) and had a great time. It was right along the canal. We had just requested the best location to be closest to my parents who were on a full hookup site, and we were! We were able to walk along the grassy canal area and get to one another's sites with ease. Bama Ed has a great point about requesting characteristics and not specific sites.

Hello and 'Welcome' ........... We always love to stay in the 1500 Loop when we don't need full hook-up. Our favorite site is "1513" but "1511" is also a very nice site! The attached pictures show site 1513 and also a picture of the canal that the site backs up to.

Hello excygnet/Clive-

I love the photos in your post!

Very funny!

I have camped frequently in both the 1500 loop and the 2000 loops.

Both loops have pluses and minuses.

But, road noise and headlights are not really that big of a problem on either loop. The first site in 1500 sits right behind the bus stop, so that one site might be a bit noisy. But, otherwise, I don't see a problem on either loop.

I'm not sure why you are not keen on sites 1514 or 1516. There is nothing wrong with either of those sites.

I'm not sure when Easter falls next year. If it's in March, I don't think mosquitoes or other insects are much of an issue then. As the weather gets warmer in April, though, the mosquitoes can get bad. They do a good job with pest control at the Fort, but there are certain times of the year when the insects win the battle for a while. In my opinion, April and May are a time when the insects stay ahead of the pest control.

I agree with the previous posters who have already advised you to not try for a specific site. Instead, ask for a site away from the main entrance to the loop. That will get you away from the road. Comfort Station and Bus Stop access is good from all the sites on these loops, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Have fun planning your trip!

Howdy Clive!

I have never stayed in 2000 but we did love our site in 1500. Don't know the site number but it was around 1506 I think. 2nd site on the right past the comfort station. I think I would be happy anywhere on the 1500 except maybe the few before the comfort station would be a little close to the big road for me. I think the ones on the back side (creek side) would be awesome too. I am really no help because I think I would be happy anywhere in the fort.

We have never had a problem with mosquitos. In late May last year at treehouse villas we had a problem with some kind of biting fly. And seems like it is true that it is better to request an area rather than specific site numbers.

I hope you have a wonderful first trip to WDW and the Fort!
