I would really appreciate any advice and input i can get. I'm currently planning a December 2009 trip (the 5th-12th to be exact). This is not my first time going or planning. I thought I did a pretty good job planning our 2004 honeymoon (last time we went) but after finding this board, there's so much more! This trip will be the first with our son. He'll be 2.5 years old when we go and I want it to be VERY special... yet affordable.
So what should I do? I'm not planning to book until the 2009 rates are out. Is that smart? We're looking at either the Polynesian or Contemporary (Polynesian only if I can get a good deal). When I book, should I book a package or room only? What if I get a code or a pin? What's the best way to get a pin? When do codes come available for December? Will it be difficult for me to add a code or pin to a reservation? Can I just ask the CM making the reservation if there are any codes or deals they're aware of? Would it be in my best interest to get a AAA membership? Or an AP (even tohugh I don't think we'll be back within a year)?
When we arrive would it hurt to ask if there are any upgrades available? I really don't want to pay for one so I wouldn't be disappointed if they didn't didn't give me one. I mean, we're only going to use the room to sleep pretty much. But would it be OK to at least ask or do they frown upon that?
Last time, for our honeymoon, we stayed in a lagoon view at the Polynesian and paid like $330 after a discount code. We were hoping to get either CONT or POLY for around $200 or less (standard view). Is that feasable or am I being unrealistic? It'll be 5 years since we have gone so I don't know how much I'm out of the loop but I'd appreciate any and all advice I can get.
