What are the BADS of BWV,...

Why would you start a thread asking everyone to come up with bad comments about a resort? :confused3

Walt's previous threads indicate he is weighing a purchase decision with BWV/BCV and OKW as his probable choices (if I'm remembering the right poster), but leaning towards BWV or BCV. There is another "oh my God, BWV must be falling apart and I just bought there" thread right now, so it appears that its BWVs turn to put on the redheaded stepchild wig - God knows BCVs has had its turn. I suspect he's trying to figure out how much truth there is to the negatives and if that really is where he wants home.

I wish BWV had a better fast food place with a mug refill station. I can't really think of anything else I don't care for at BWV. It is my home resort and I stay there as much as I possibly can.

Oh and I LOVE the clown slide!! My girls do too. Thankfully they don't know about Stephen King!

SSR owner here who wishes she had BWV! I think we can all find something good and bad about all resorts! I love the environment and location and will continue to stay (and probably purchase) at BWV

I don't really think it's helpful to hear what other people like and dislike unless you already know what's important to you. Thank goodness each DVC is different and has different plusses and minuses - but what may be a plus or minus to one person may not matter at all to another.

For our family - ease of access to nighttime (post park closure) activities is really, really important - probably one of our top "requirements" in a resort.
BWV has great nighttime activities.

That may not be as important to other families and many may actually prefer a resort like OKW or VWL that has the plus of being really quiet and peaceful at night.

You have to know what matters. People complain about the hallways at BWV or the spread-outedness of SSR but those negatives don't matter at all to us because we are walkers - we often walk for recreation and it does not bother us a bit. So, while that's a valid negative for people who don't want to walk more than they have to - it's actually a plus for us!

Dining options is another non-issue at BWV because (again with the walking) we have no problem walking into the WS to eat in Epcot. (I actually think being able to walk to WS just to eat is a plus of BWV). But - we always have APs and don't have to ration our park admissions. I can see how it could be a negative if you did not like the walking or needed to watch how many park admissions you were using.

So - for the OP - I'd say you might want to think about what your top 5 wants in a resort are an maybe post those and get feedback about which resort will be the best fit.

For us, the top five (in no order) would be:
1) views 2) activities/community hall - especially @ night 3) room quality 4) access to good CS dining 5) efficient transportation

Least important:
1) option of grand villas 2)pool 3)value options 4)room size 5)anything relating to travel between September-May - when we don't travel

So BWV would be a much better choice than OKW for us - but flip those lists and OKW becomes the better choice.

BWV is our home resort and we love it. The only thing that would make it better (for us) is have a bigger version of the bakery to accomodate more people.

Good luck with your decision!

Agree, but when starting the DVC journey, you often don't know what is going to be important to you. Also, the things Walt is talking about would certainly change my mind if I were leaning toward BWV and they were true - smelly hallways filled with trash - that, I'd think, would be important to anyone.

It's so "bad" it's always booked full at the 7 mos mark everytime I try.
ITA! Sometimes it's sold out way before the 7 month window even opens. It's so bad that if I don't call day by day at 11 months to get a standard view or Boardwalk view room, I have to waitlist!

So I think the only BAD that really counts is that way too many people want to stay there!

For those that bash BWV, what was it that you disliked?

So far I have read about:

Funky smell
LONG hallways
Trash in hallways
Lack of friendly CM
Worn out rooms
Noise level
Crowded lobby, pool and common areas

What else?

I like lots of trees, so I would have to say not enough landscaping for my tastes. It just seems so sparse there.

Also, the obnoxious views of the Swan and Dolphin. I hate those monstrosities. All the Epcot resorts have a view of them, but some of those BWV rooms are so close to them.

I also don't like all the restaurants and shops down on the Boardwalk, but that's the whole point of having a boardwalk. I just wish there was something inside the resort.

Overall, it's our least favorite resort, though it really shines during the holidays with some of the best decorations of any resort.

Are you considering a purchase there and just want to make sure you know all the potential negatives? If so, why would you ask it in this manner?

No offense, but this thread seems intent on stirring "both sides" of the opinions up. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

DAMN YOU GUYS ARE TOUGH!!!!!!!!

As adults with kids, we have been to WDW at least once a year for the last 5 years, since my 10 yr old turned 5, but have ALWAYS avoided the DVC kiosk like the plauge. "Timeshare? We don't need no stickin timeshare!!

We just came off of the MAGIC for the second time this past Mardi Gras and to kill time onboard, we went to a DVC presentation to kill some time; they were giving out ship credits as door prizes.

LONG STORY SHORT!!! We can't imagine for the life of us why we have not ever stopped by to check out the DVC story before. The two cruises that we took came out to be about $12,000. I wish that we had just bought some points with that $ and been able to enjoy vacations for the next 34+ years.

The cruises are awesome, but the DVC lasts SOOO much longer.

Anyway, we are now trying to figure out not IF, but WHERE we need to buy. This board has been a great help, but the bashing of the different resorts is interesting. For the most part, I can SEE/Imagine the advantages of each resort, but can't really see the BADS without staying there.

Thank you CRISI.

If you remember from a previos post, you and I went back and forth with the "advantage" of the extra 12+ years at SSR and AKV. I was a HEAVY propenent of the extra years, years that could be passed down to children.
Gotta remember that huh?!

Anyway,...I think that I have to change my mind now. SSR looks really nice, but it's just to spread out for me. Having to walk from the farthest bldg back to the main pool with the kids and then back to eat would get old FAST. Cranky 4 yr old crying all of the way in the background.

Anyway,...I thought that I had it narrowed down to BC and/or BW, but BC is quickly loosing its appeal, with the busy streets, walking through the lobby to get through SAB and the general "villas added on after the original resort was built feeling that BC seems to give me."

Thanks for you support!

Remember that your four year old will very quickly be a nine year old with plenty of energy to do that walk over and over again, and eventually be a teenager that gripes even over a short walk. As you probably remember, I'm not a huge fan of buying for what might happen 35 or 45 years from now, but I think its shortsighted to buy because your children are currently small - they get big before you know it.

That said, my husband and I happen to love Epcot more than any other part of WDW, so ease of access to Epcot is a huge plus to both of us. For theming, we actually like VWL, but feel its too removed from everything for us.

We bought at BWV back in 1999. Due to financial reasons we sold our contract in 2004. We now own at SSR (purchased in Feb. of 2007). We loved staying at the BWV. I also love staying at SSR.

The only real complaints that I had about BWV in comparison to the other DVC resorts built since then are;

1) the 1 bedroom/studio connecting door being in the living room rather than in the entry area.

2) I didn't care for the bathroom layout of the 1 bedroom. The newer resorts have the toilet in a small room (with it's own door) seperate from the shower/sink area. BWV have the toilet right in the larger room with the shower/sink. Since there are two doors going into that room, it is a minor hassle for anyone who wishes to use the toilet. If you want your privacy you have to close and lock two doors and then make sure you unlock both doors. Someone seems to always end up being locked out from their side in the middle of the night :) Those who have stayed there and then at any of the newer resorts probably understand what I am talking about.

These are "minor" dislikes mind you. Overall we loved every stay that we had at BWV. I just think that the architects headed in the right direction with the changes in the bathroom layout and the lock-off door location. IMHO.

Since your post didn't include any of this information, I took it at face value. Go back and read your original post as if you didn't know the person. I think you'll see where I'm coming from.

My opinion is that people on these boards really aren't "tough". They are a very helpful, sharing bunch of people who honestly try to assist people in the DVC decision process.

We'll tell people when we think DVC is a good fit, and more importantly when it's not.

As I said, there was no intent to offend. But I didn't know your "back story" until crisi provided it. Now I can see where you're coming from.

I personally believe that we could be happy owning at any WDW DVC resort, but we are especially partial to BWV and VWL and bought points there.

Good luck in your decision process. :)

The only thing that I didn't care for at the BWV was the creepy "The Shining" music played in the bathrooms. :scared1: Scared the pants off me.

Other than that, the resort was great. :thumbsup2

And our own backstory is that there have been any number of threads that are simply trolling and resort bashing over the years - so if it looks trollish or like its just resort bashing, sometimes we jump to the conclusion that it is....and usually we are right.

We love the atmosphere at BWV, the 'clown' pool is a huge favorite (dd loves being clown barf!!). Dd has enjoyed many hours in the Community Hall, it has crafts, fun stuff to do, and there is a quiet pool right there in front of it for mom and dad.
I've had those 'walks' to the end of the hall....I've been the last room before hitting 'The Attic', I've been two doors down from it. I've been 2 doors from the end of the bldg closest to MGM. Yes, I"ve had the longest walks possible at BWV. But at least it's cool (yes, sometimes cold!!) and covered. Until you've had to traipse all the way from the front of POR to one of the outmost bldgs in AB, well, you haven't lived!!! Almost 10 mins to that room!
I love the Boardwalk Bakery, but it's just not big enough. I wish BW would put in a grab and go section, similar to the Marketplace at BC. It's not a food court but it works in a pinch. At least I can refill my mug there, without waiting in a huge line and then being given a cup, rather than actually in my mug!!
But all in all....BWV is perfect for me. It truly is my 'home away from home'...well, minus a few amenities!:drinking1
