what are some "must do's" at OKW?

Well, we are finally trying out one of the famous, roomy, 1-bedrooms at OKW for a few days over Thanksgiving. I would like this to be a relaxing getaway, and I was wondering what are some pleasant activities you can do right at the resort itself without venturing into the holiday madness of the parks. Any suggestions appreciated, my kids are 18 & 8.

The boatride to Downtown Disney. The rides start at 12:00 noon and go until around 9-10:00 pm. They pick up about every 20 minutes or so.

Listen to the grass grow . It's pretty laid back at OKW .......

You can go for a swim, rent watercraft, participate in the activities that are scheduled during your stay (you'll get an agenda when you check in), play tennis, rent a surrey bike, workout, get a massage, relax in the jacuzzi and sauna, play volleyball, shoot hoops and visit the arcade.

Ditto on renting the surrey bike. It's cheaper than at the BW and you don't have hills to go up. Much easier ride. Not as much traffic to avoid either.

Go fishing. Try out the activities at the Community Hall - all sorts of things for kids and families to do.

Sit on the back porch and watch the golfers.

For a 18 yo there are not many must dos at OKW unless he/she enjoys golfing. There is more for the 8 yo to do. Your 18 yo can take a boat to DTD and go to DQ but that is not a must do at the resort it is a DTD activity, other than the boat ride.

That's the best thing about OKW, there is nothing you have to do.

Watch the gardeners hack up the palm trees and shrubs.

take the boat, or stroll, over to West Side, and enjoy Disney Quest and the some of the more eclectic shops. Or rent a bike and ride it over and to downtown disney and back....maybe a 30 minute round trip. Rent a boat and cruise the canals. Try the arcade, but its a small one. Take the bus to the Contemporary and water ski and parasail; or rent a watersprite(whatever).

Surrey Bikes and pool hopping within in OKW. there are several pools, why not try them all?
Just relax and enjoy the Old Key lifestyle. That IS a vacation.

One of our new favorite things to do is Barbeque.

All of the pools (except the main pool I think) have barbeques and picnic tables. Just stake out a table and a barbeque and go nuts. You will need to provide your own BBQ briquettes - one small bag of Match Light or similar does the trick.

Last time we were at OKW was the first time we cooked out, and it will be a must-do each time now. We made up some side dishes in the room and then brought them over with the meat.

It's even better if you come from a place where you have to stop Backyard BBQ'ing for the winter!

Go to Olivia's and have some shrimp fritters and a citrus cooler.

Then go back to your balcony at night and hide behind the bushes if they haven't been hacked away.

Grab a hamburger at Good's. The are the best. Sit and eat it at the tables on the walk or by the pool.

Jog/walk along the trail to DD. Last August we got up early every morning and jogged all the way to "Motion" in PI and back. It's about a mile and a half each way.

We love the walk DTD and taking the boat back. We also like the hot tub at the quiet pools at Miller's Road and South Point. South Point is a great spot to stay if you are on the lagoon side. We can watch people fishing every morning and the pontoons going by. There also seems to be a lot of wildlife right around that spot.
