What are some good counter services at

Looking at the menus, the Flatbread Grill and Backlot Express both look interesting. Anybody eat at either of these places??

I hate having to find a counter-service at MGM!

Well the only CS we've done there is pizza planet. It's ok for food, but my kids just like being "at pizza planet". Oh we ate at the ABC place and it was ok, not great.

We like the TS there so we don't do CS too often. That said, we have had okay lunches at the ABC Commissary. The snacks at Starring Rolls are good and the ice cream at Gerties is good.

The CS at MGM is just OK. The Commissary has ethnic choices, some kind of cuban something, and a greek thing among the choices. Pizza Planet is Pizza. Backlot Express is where I usually end up, They have your basic chicken fingers & hamburgers. I haven't done the Flat Bread, I think they have limited operating hours, they were closed when I tried to check it out. The outdoor area by RNR & TOT has many choices but slow service & forget about your food being hot.

it's the only park that really has no good CS choices

I agree. Yuck-o. I usually end up at Backlot Express. It has the "usual" of burgers and chicken strips. The Flatbread Grill had some really good food in August, but they changed the menu by December.

The only place we do CS at MGM is Backlot Express. The burgers are pretty good and the grilled turkey and cheese sandwich with roasted red peppers on multi-grain bread is pretty good, too. Not a whole lot to choose from at MGM, but you gotta eat... :rolleyes1

The sesame chicken salad at backlot express is really really good... One of the best salas I ate at a CS, and it was nice to see something different than a Chicken Ceasar Salad (I don't like those!).

We enjoyed Pizza Planet although it gets very mixed reviews here, mostly negative. We had the pizza combos which comes with a garden salad and a Mickey rice krispy treat for dessert. We also tried ABC Commissary. It was okay but lacking in taste not somewhere I would probably go again.

This park has the ickiest (is that really a word?) CS food on property. I have found edible food (as someone else said you gotta eat) at the Backlot express (the grilled veggie sandwich was good, DS reallyliked his burger as wel. We have also hopped the boat and headed to Epcot, Boardwalk,The Dolphin Fountain or Beaches and Cream at BC. Depends on the crowds, fast pass situation and mood!

In the past, I've liked ABC Commissary and the Backlot Express. I thought Pizza Planet was disappointing. Mostly, we eat elsewhere on MGM days.

Backlot Express is great if you like:
-burger-type food
-inexpensive prices
-plenty of seating
-interesting theming in your CS restaurant
-open spaces
-quick service.

It's not as great as, say, Flame Tree BBQ at DAK, but it is a stop I make on every trip to the Studios park.

I've also heard (but not tried this, mind you) that you can create a make-shift salad from the plentiful condiment island, what with all the lettuce, tomato, and other things rabbits enjoy.

Ricks (who is proud to make this his first non-VMK or Test Board related post. Holla!)

Backlot Express is really not bad, IMO, just not the best place in comparison to other parks.

We liked their Grilled Vegetable sandwich, the Grilled Turkey & Cheese sandwich and the Sesame Chicken Salad. DS liked the kid's meal with chicken, broccoli, carrots, celery & dressing. :)

At the Flatbread Grill we tried the BBQ Pulled Pork Sub & the Greek Salad and both were pretty good. DS had the Grilled Chicken Wrap & could only eat 1/2, it was pretty filling, said it was good.

HTH!

:offtopic: :offtopic: Yay for Ricks! You actually left the VMK Board and ventured off to post on another board! Did you get lost? :wave2:

OK, back to discussing the poor counter services choices at MGM...

Starring Rolls has a few sandwiches (and lox and bagels!) plus a wide variety of really good pastries.
