I know that menus and chefs change, but what are some of the "don't miss" entrees (or desserts ;) ) you have had on DCL that you would recommend to a first time DCL cruiser (who loves to eat!)? Please indicate the restaurant in which you had the entree or dessert.

On our most recent DCL cruise I wanted to try entrees I would not normally order when dining out. And I was delighted with both of my 'unusual for me' choices of entrees!

Triton's/Lumiere's: the duck entree

Palo's: rack of lamb entree & chocolate souffle dessert

The herb crusted sea bass in Lumiere's was delicious. That was pretty much my favorite (with the exception of Palo's).

I'll second the herb-crusted sea bass (Triton's). I also enjoyed the maple-glazed salmon (Animator's Palette), the pan-roasted mahi-mahi (Master Chef night) and the pan-fried grouper at Parrot Cay (ok, I'm a seafood lover!).

The creme brulee was a great dessert choice at Triton's!

Lobster and shrimp wrapper was a wonderful appetizer at Animator's Palette, the shrimp medley at Triton's, and the Caribbean Gumbo Soup at Parrot Cay.

We ate WAY too much on the ship, but enjoyed it all.

The Chocolate Lava Cake in Animators on Thursday night, and the chocolate spread on deck 9 on Tuesday night leaving St. Maarten.

My favorite entree was grilled pork tenderloin with polenta...I think I had it at Lumieres. Best dessert and best overall food was the Warm Chocolate Lava cake, by far. And there was a salad that was particularly tasty--I forget the name but I had it at AP and it had sliced sun dried tomatoes.

Happy cruising!

Let's see -

Triton's : duck breast with parsnips

Animator's : veal chop (big!) with polenta

At Parrot Cay (which we like a lot - even more than Animator's) I had four appetizers and two dessrts for dinner. Our servers were disappointed I didn't have an entree as well! I loved all of the appetizers, especially the grilled vegetables with mango chili salsa.

can't wait to go back!

The great thing about eating on the cruise is yoou can literally have several entrees and taste them all! Besure to ask your server for what they recommend!
I loved lunch and breakfast on deck 9- great weather and food and I loved the stir-fry at lunch!
I love to eat out and certainly ate my way across the sea! Don't forget the pizzas at Palos, too!

Don't miss the Seafood Buffet! My husband and I are seafood lovers from Long Island, NY.

We stumbled across the seafood buffet while exploring the ship one day (I think it was a day at sea) and if memory serves me correctly it was served for lunch. Most of the time we had lunch on deck 9 by the pool - chicken fingers and pizza. But this one day, our family agreed we had enough sun and we decided to stay in and explore the ship - watch a movie, shop (of course) and we walked passed Lumiere's and a member of the staff invited us in to enjoy the seafood buffet. The mussels (in a white garlic cream sauce) were absolutely fantastic. I know there were lots of other choices but the mussels I can still remember clearly.

We are set to sail on May 11th and I have reminded my hubbie several times that we must make it back to the seafood buffet.

Don't miss it!

I liked all that I tried (wish I could've tried it all), but my dd(8 at the time) swears the pan fried Halibut in Lumieres was by far the best dinner on the cruise - she even asked (and received) a second helping!! (and she's a tiny little squirt) ;)

My favorite entree was the veal in Lumiere's. Favorite appetizer was the coconut prawns, followed closely by the escargot!! (had 3 orders of the snails!!)

I must tell you though - my wifes' favorite dinner wasn't even on the menu. She was not in the mood for fancy - she just really wanted a "meat and potatoes" dinner, and she told our waiter that. Without missing a beat, he brought her a grilled chicken breast and mashed potatoes with gravy. She said it was delicious and we were highly impressed by their ability to go 'off menu' and come up with that so well. The amazing thing is that there wasn't even any chicken on the menu that night, so we were indeed impressed.
One night, I couldn't decide between 3 entrees, so they brought all 3 of 'em to me! (Yes, I cleaned my plates - all 3 of them!) Veal, chicken and salmon. OINK!!!! ;)

Just curious, there was an interesting story on NPR last week about sea bass. Many restaurants in the U.S. are no longer serving it. Seems the popularity of the fish is leading to it's downfall. It is fished before maturity (comes solely from non-U.S. waters), is not repopulating and is going the way of swordfish and red snapper (the blackened redfish-type). Seems funny DCL would not jump on the "environmentally responsible" band wagon. Not to mention many restaurants are glad to give it the heave-ho since the price has risen sharply.

Love food, love chocolate...and was I ready to have the chocolate souffle at Palos!!!

BUT...when I had it (at this points my taste buds had worked themselves into a frenzy!) - it was okay. Was it the anticipation?! Did I work myself up over the much read posts here?!

BUT...the next evening at Lumiere's there was a "warm chocolate brownie thingie" - and that is definately on my list now! In fact the whole table gave it "the best chocolate thingie" on the ship!

:p

Well, since my last post to this thread, weve gone on another cruise. I would have to say my new favorite meal was the pasta (orchiette?) dish at Palos and the chocolate souffle! That was just incredible!

Risotto with Mushrooms - exactly the way I remember it being made when I lived in Italy.

The Art of Entertaining series also featured this and included the recipe! MMmmmmmm!

Maple glazed salmon at AP!! Maybe in December I'll see if they'll give me TWO!!
We haven't eaten at Palos yet, but my mouth is watering at the Chocolate Souffle that I keep hearing about....
Do they do a "midnight buffet" type thing on the DCL during the 7 nighters?
Can you tell I do love chocolate??

Best entree: I vote for the vegetable stuffed chicken at Palo's. Everyone looked at me crooked when I ordered it, then they all tasted it and couldn't believe how DELICIOUS it was.

Best Dessert: Creme Brulee at Lumieres. Wish I had some now.

Another vote for Herb-Crusted Sea Bass, escargot, coconut shrimp, herb shrimp appetizer, seared scallops and Chocolate Lava Cake!! We loved it all!!
