In my teenage years I always wanted an opal ring, especially from a boyfriend. It was the going thing back then. My brother had bought his girlfriend one and I was so envious. Anyone else have any?

DVC from dh for last christmas, :rotfl:

No, seriously, can't really think of anything that I had wanted and didn't get growing up.. Not that I always got everything I wanted, but honestly, can't remember anything, so must not have been that important to me in the long run, :)

This goes waaay back, but I always wanted a Baby Alive doll. My mom refused to let me have one because they were "disgusting" LOL.

Mine is more a present I recieved but wasnt allowed to keep. My mom bought me a Smurf watch when I was 8 yo. She wrapped it and had it under the tree, naughty girl that I was, I had ripped part of the wrapping away from the present under the tree, trying to find out what was in it. What I didnt know was that she had found me out! So, come Christmas day, she let me open it, then proceeded to tell me to give it to her as I "cheated" and snooped and would not be allowed to keep the watch. Needless to say I never snooped after that, and to this day, I still want my smurf watch and Im 36 now :lmao:

When I was a little girl, I saw a horse playset that included several plastic horses and a stable in the gigantic JCPenney Christmas catalog. I asked Santa for that playset for several years in a row, but never received it.

Thing is, my dad trained horses, and I always rode them and played in the stable. I guess Santa thought I didn't need the playset, because I had the real thing. :sad1:

A Barbie swimming pool. Seriously, I wanted one when I was a child but I never got one.

So, being smart as I am, ;), I dug a hole in my back yard, lined it with a Hefty bag & filled it with water. Trust me, it wasn't the same.:lmao:

An automatic car starter. I've wanted one for a few years now but gave up asking for it. Trust me, I'm not deprived though:thumbsup2

This is so silly, but when I was young I wanted a tape recorder, and I didn't get one because we already had one in the house and I was crushed I even cried on Christmas day because of it.

When I was 10 years old, I really wanted a "Cindy" doll - my friend had one and I wanted one because I thought it was so cooll - you could 'walk" her along with you.

I saw a huge box for me under the tree that Christmas and just knew it was my Cindy doll - and my sister just laughed it off and told me wait until Christmas, then I would see. When I opened the box on Christmas morning and realized it was a down filled jacket - I tried hard to cover my disappointment because I knew I really needed a new jacket too. I think I wore that jacket for the next 4 years and it was the warmest thing I had ever worn. But I still wanted the darn doll!

This taught me to never, ever lead my kids on when they were little...we were on a tight budget and I often told them up front if I wasn't able to provide their heart's desire (although one year they wanted a Barbie playhouse and a friend of mine made one for them). I was always kind about it but I didn't want them to have that kind of disappointment on Christmas morning. :rolleyes1

Another one who got something but couldn't keep it.
I was about 6 and my sister was 8. We both asked for Barbie dolls and sure enough Santa brought them for us. We were a family of 6 kids so we didn't get alot, only two gifts from Santa each. So I think I got the Barbie and some game or something lame. I can't imagine any kid now days getting only two gifts but that is what we got.
Well the neighbor girls were 7 and 6 and they got nothing for Christmas. So my mother made us give our Barbie dolls to them because the games we got were to old for them.
I used to tease my mother when she was alive about how she made me give away the toy that I really wanted and had nothing else except some good will. Who needs good will when you are 6?

When I was in the 4th grade, I wanted this doll from Sears (this was in the 60's). My grandfather told me that if I didn't do more than 3 things wrong in the 3 months leading up to Christmas, I would get the doll.

Well, I did 3 things wrong. Don't remember what the first two were but the 3rd was when I made a face when my mom asked me to help with the dishes. I didn't make an ugly face, more like a frown. I remember thinking that it wasn't that bad of a thing I had done and was sure I'd get a pass on it.

Christmas morning, there was a wrapped box that was the exact size of that doll box I had adored at Sears many times. I gleefully ripped off the paper only to find a suitcase (what every 4th grader wants) while my grandfather sat and laughed at the look on my face.

I never made a deal with my kids that their behavior was going to dictate their gifts. I was too scarred from my own experience.

A younger friend of ours had one. Trust me, they were! The "food" got all icky inside.

I can't remember anything, so if I did not get something I wanted, it mustn't have been a huge deal. Now, my kids have so many different things they would like this year, that even though they're only getting a few, I think they will be very pleased and surprised a bit (my mom splurged for iPod touch for each of them!).

Happy holidays to you all!

Oh, and this is a fun stroll down memory lane, my oldest sister had the Velvet doll! My mom still has it. Then when I was one year old, our family got a kitten, and my sister named her Velvet. She lived a long life.

I wanted a snoopy snowcone maker every year in the Sears catalog. Never got one.

My parents got my sister and I that one year at a garage sale.

I wanted a Cabbage Patch Doll sooo bad the year they came out, I would call my Mom into the room every time the commercial came on, I never wanted anything else that much. She tried, but of course couldn't get one. She told me before Christmas so I wouldn't be disappointed and got me a doll that rollerskated instead. I ended up getting one when the hype died down, I may have even bought it myself, I can't remember anymore.

A couple years ago I wanted a GPS and hinted to DH in the form of "I'd really like a GPS this year", but I guess he read that as "I need more jewelry that I dont' wear" :lmao: so I bought myself one after Christmas.

Ha! I wanted that too. Never got it.

I would pour over the Sears toy catalog for hours!!!!

Me too! I would pour through the Wish Book for days making list after list. My brother and cousins too. It was a HUGE deal when that thing arrived in the Fall. Ah the memories.....

1. Snoopy Sno Cone machine
2. Rock Tumbler (looked so neat and my cousin had one, but I hear they are junk)
3. Easy Bake oven (my Mom said if I wanted to bake I could use the real oven with her)

My brothers was the microscope set and a telescope.

I still brings these things up every year to my parents and tell them how they scarred me for life :lmao:

I really, really wanted the Suntan Tuesday Taylor doll when it came out in the 70's. Her hair could change from blond to brunette and she "tanned" when put in sunlight. I got her vacation home for Christmas but my parents couldn't find the doll so I got a Barbie instead. Still a great Christmas but I REALLY wanted that doll! LOL (And my best friend did get one.)
