What are soccer moms? They got mentioned on the Hooligan-thread, and I just wonder what they are?

I hate that term. It general refers to van-driving moms who drive their kids around to activities. But it has kind of a negative connotation. As if they (we) have no life otherwise.

As Bob's link said it --- yes, that's exactly what I am. Hey, I even have two boys are playing soccer too!!

Thank you for the explanation :)

so, why were they mentioned on the hooligan-thread???

There ya go.... I consider myself a soccer Mom and hey I am proud. :confused3 We do soccer year round so thats why I say I am a soccer mom...I actually think that term has changed in the past few years from something most people see negative to not so much anymore.

:cheer2:

Sometimes they can become a little overzealous, especially when it comes to their children playing sports. Of course, I've seen many fathers doing the same thing at kids' sporting events, but the moms always get the bad rap. ;)

Soccer Mom > Helicopter Mom

soccer moms get a bad connotation on other message boards I visit. Those message boards are about sports/small cars and often we are nearly hit by "soccer moms" driving their huge SUV's, while talking on a cell phone and not paying attention to where theyre going.

I have two boys who play soccer year round, so I guess that classifies me as a "Soccer Mom". It's too bad Soccer Moms have such a bad reputation. I define myself like this:

I am a mom to two boys who play soccer year round. I commute and work full-time. If they play on the same night, I drive one while their father drives the other. I support my son's entire team. I encourage them but do not sideline coach - that is the coach's job. I like to watch my children play so if that makes me a Soccer Mom then I'm proud to be one.

There's an off season?? No one told me.

I was thinking the same thing. DS is 9, and I think had 4 weeks last summer when he did not put a foot on a ball. We're deep in the throes of town soccer now, indoor starts up in 2 weeks, and spring travel will be starting as soon as the snow is off the pitch in March......

Hmmmm, guess I am a soccer mom....

It pretty much seems to sum me up, not so much in the negative, but for all practical purposes. :rotfl: I only have my little guy who plays soccer and I'm more of a baseball mom, but my life revolves around my kids, their activities, etc. Now that they're in school, it's all concentrated to the afternoon/evening and weekend hours, but with three kids still at home and a DD in college, this is my life right now. And yes, "these are the good ole days". :teeth: I wouldn't have it any other way, even though it's exhausting. I'm usually juggling who has to be dropped off at what activity, who has to be picked up at another, which carpool I'm driving, when my DH (who works at home) needs to drive to something because I need to be in 2 places at once, and when we just can't get to something and how to work that out. My calendar is my friend. :thumbsup2

I don't take it like that :confused3
I have two kids 8 and 12, soccer, baseball, softball and karate.
I have a minivan and SUV and drive them in either to the practices and games so I guess I am a Soccer mom too but I have a life. I work part time, married, go on vacations and have friends.

I'll be doing the above this weeked too inbetween going out on Sat night to watch the Mets with my husband, going to High School Open house with my daughter and making sure my dh and ds get their hair cut before our trip next Saturday

Proud Soccer Mom here too but I don't think of us like the definition. Yes, I have a mini van (and I like it darnnit!) and a cell phone but I also work full time. I just love to support my boys - and we love to go to the games!!

Wouldn't have it any other way
Jenny :)
