My DS will be attending college and living in Florida next year. What would he have to do to qualify for a Florida resident pass? Change his driver's license? or something else?
Hi...
Your son will not have to surrender his driver's license. His student ID from a FL university will enable him to have and use a FL resident ticket. Hope he has fun...and studies hard!
sorry I can't provide a link, but I read somewhere that a Florida college id card is all he'd need. I can't verify that, though, so don't put all faith in it.
eta: (Thanks, Tigger...glad I didn't imagine that!)
Thanks to both of you - that's a lot easier than I thought it would be!
Oh, and "War Eagle"! to AU Tigger - my DH graduated from Auburn School of Engineering in 1979 and my 9th grade DD is planning to go there when she graduates!
Florida is not a state that he must surrender his license. I moved to Fla. with my mom for about an 8 month period while DH was deployed to the sandbox. At that point, I went in and got my license switched over. I kept my PA, VA, and FL licenses until moving to MD... it was MD that insisted ALL licenses and IDs be forfeited. I liked having the FL one, too, because it was still valid.
Another option is to get a state ID. It's not a driver's license or anything- just a valid form of state issued ID with your name and picture on it. As long as you don't live in a state that it's illegal for him to have an ID from another state, you should be fine. I would definitely test the waters with the school ID first though! Seems a lot easier than checking with states!
