I'm trying to figure out a budget, or what we'll be asked for, by our kids. DS is 9 and DD is 5. So what do your children like and if you remember approx cost that would be great too!

Thanks :)

Believe it or not, my kids' favorite souvenirs are the "squashed pennies" that you can get all over Disney. Each one costs 51 cents. You put two quarters and a penny in a machine, choose a picture to be imprinted on your penny, turn a crank, and out comes an elongated penny with a Disney picture on it! These machines are located throughout the parks and also at the resorts. You can also buy a book to hold them for around $7. My two boys take bags of quarters and pennies with them and have a ball looking for machines.

These machines aren't just at Disney, either. Other theme parks, science centers, zoos, etc, have them also. I LOVE them because they are small and easy to store when we get home. No large toys cluttering up the house!

My two younger children love the remote control cars they got in the gift shop at AKL. They are not very big and have Mickey and friends in a safari looking jeep. They still love to play with them and are easy to use. They were about $15 each.

Oh one more! HUge, huge hit- the inside out balls you get when you come out of the "figment imagination" ride gift shop. They are purple and stretchy and have a smooth side and a "prickly" side. We get all the kids one everytime we go! I think they are about 5 or 6 dollars.

Autograph books! We have dozens (kept forgetting them in the hotel  ).

dd collects pins $7-$12 bucks a piece. She also got a couple of tshirts. A huge stuffed dalmation in downtown disney that will hold PJs inside for $34. We also have lots of disney beanies for around $8- stitch eating mickey bar and set of chip n dale are our latest. When we went when she was 5 she got the pressed penny book and pennies and quarters.

We never leave without a sword or gun from the Pirates shop- anywhere from $2.50 to $18 or so but most often the $8-$9 mid sized gun (we have enough for the whole block now).

Autograph books are around $6 or $7 and the fat pens are $2.50.

Pins from $6.50 on up (and up up up). But fun.

Remote control 'robot' Stitch- I think it was $15 but might have been closer to $20.

Sometimes a shirt, under $20 for kids sizes.

Baseball style hats around $11.

Plush toys for the younger one around $9.

We give the kids a $$ amount ($25), give them chances to earn more around the house the few weeks before we leave, and they have b-day or Christmas money saved so they can always spend that. I find the set $$ amount makes them good shoppers and they do not nickle and dime the way they would otherwise.

My DD11 & DS7 always want more & more stuffed animals. We try to keep it to just a few each. These I think are usually about $9.00-$15.00 apiece.
We always get pins, autograph books, and EPCOT passports but the stuffed animals are the favorites.

You will find many reasonably priced souvineers. The only things at WDW that I find offensively expensive are the clothing items...especially the hats! $30 for a knit cap or a baseball hat is pretty high, IMHO. I've been looking for a knit cap on my last two trips, willing to pay that much even, but unfortunately haven't found one I liked enough.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll find something in your budget range that your kids will love!

The pressed pennies are always a hit with my DGDs. They also like either a T-shirt or a sweatshirt with a favorite character on it. ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo

We get a beach towel for each child (they pick the pattern).
About $20 each at World of Disney. Have them shipped home.
The towels are nice and plush. They seem to last for years and do not collect "dust". A great way to know your towel at a pool too :)

We give each child $100 to spend on what ever.
We pay for the resort, food, water bottles, the autograph book and beach towles above.

As our kids get older, they only spend about $40 dollars of it and pocket $60 for their bank account.
It seems to have taught them only to buy items which they will use. Not items which are cool at the time and useless when at home.

A frew items for older children - ::MickeyMo DS likes the music store and Lego store in DTD. ::MinnieMo DD likes to create herself a charm bracelet at the little shop between, Furture World and World Showcase in EPCOT.
Again, they both spend much less than the $100, and use their WDW items when they get home. :flower:

Yup, I forgot about that one. Beach towels are reasonably priced and they do last a long time. There are also a nice variety around - I've bought AK ones, ones with all four parks, ones with the MK.

My dd (4) really liked the pens that look like magic wands. She also loves her Mickey Head pen. (only $4.00) ::MickeyMo

My DD's favorite souvies so far are the parasal we got from Japan that hangs from her ceiling (CM wrote her name on it in Japanese) and a Princess wand she got from Disney on Ice. I always bring "Tinkerbell" gifts with me and leave one under the pillow each night for her. The deal is she can't ask for anything in the gift shops until the end of the week when she'll pick out one or two must-haves. If she does this, Tink will leave a small something in the room each day while we are at the park. I wrap each gift and that makes it extra special. This year: MM baseball cap, Lizzie Maguire beach towel, Raven pjs, Disney Karaoke CD, Lion King mug, Princess t-shirt, Snow White sweatshirt, and a couple more I can't remember. I just hate it when she wants me to spend $$ on things I consider junk at the stores. This way everything I buy is at a huge discount and she gets things she needs and likes and then one or two other things.

Whenever it gets dark, my kids want the light-up toys. $10.00-$20.00 depending on what they want.

Thanks for all the ideas! It gives me an idea of how much to budget for souvenirs and how to handle it with them. Luckily my kids are small enough that they don't go for the outrageously expensive clothes - they'd rather have toys - and I try to keep them away from junky stuff too. I'd like to tell them they have so much $$ for souvenirs and let them spend it as they want though.

I didn't know there were park beach towels, we're going to have to check that out. We have a big jar of change been keeping for the trip so I'm going take some rolls of quarters and pennies for those smushed penny machines! You've mentioned several things I hadn't noticed before that sound cute :)

I want to buy a few surprises for the trip too. I bought everyone a hat from disney deals on ebay for the trip. Hope to find some neon necklaces and light chasers. That's a great idea to say they are from Tink !

I wonder if they'll get into pins, hmmm. I always find so many I like - they are so darn cute. DS loves that lego store at DTD, always have to stop there!

Keep it coming and thanks again !

(Bring light ups from home!! We just always forget to bring them with us at the parks!! :rotfl: )

DD last year got tinkerbelle gifts, and she loved the opportunity to pick her own, so I too gave her money (she's8) she desperately wanted a Princess Dress $65, but she couldnt spend her own money on it!! :rotfl: She loved picking out "rocks" near the Aladden Carpet Ride - I believe that was under $5!! This year she wants a parosol from Japan!!

Dont forget to include the cost of CD's - I love my Wishes CD, and "Where Magic Lives" with all the park/ride/themed tunes (well 20 of them anyway!!) I believe they were $20 each, and I hadnt budgeted that - but what joy they bring!!

My kids have gone in "phases" as to what they like to collect at WDW. :teeth: For awhile it was snow globes, but now we have a ton and thankfully they have moved on. They have always been big fans of the pressed pennies and we continue to collect them on each trip. My older dd loves shirts so she gets one or two on each trip but they aren't cheap - $20 a shirt. On our last trip my younger dd decided to collect plush animals with her allowance money. They ranged from $9 to $13 and there is a large selection of plush animals to choose from. The pins are fun, but they add up. Thankfully, the girls have stuck with the pressed pennies.

One thing they do get each trip is a pearl in the Japanese pavillion at Epcot. It is a tradition for us to pick out a pearl on each trip and they always get a kick out of it. The pearls are about $13.

Enjoy your trip! :sunny:

oh I forgot about the pearls!!

Also, one of our Tinkerbelle gifts is I go to the Disney Store and pick up a couple of shirts on sale ($5!!) and slip those under her pillow for a "Disney" souveneir (she's young!!)

Do they have settings for the pearls? Anything for a little girl (5) and not too expensive?

My DD would love that, she is such a girly girl :)

I love the CD's too!
