Our party will consist of 7A and 3C-me and my husband, our daughter and current SIL with 3C ages 4 6 and 7, and our daughter's first husband and their 2 teenaged children. We will be in WDW the end of November through the beg Dec, around 14 days. What will be our housing choices? My husband and I really need an ADA bathroom. Should we go for connecting rooms or one big suite or villa? Which would be better financially? Big thanks for any help!!

Staying offsite in a house or very large condo is probably going to be your best bet economically for that many people and for that long of a trip.

Connecting rooms will not be guaranteed.

Maybe someone can shed some light on how much one of the big villas would cost, I'm not sure.

Disney will never guarantee connecting rooms; it's even in their terms & conditions.

There are several ways to dice it up:
  • room for you + husband
  • room for daughter + SIL + 3C (need room that sleeps 5)
  • room for first husband + 2 teen kids
A grand villa would sleep your whole party, but might not have as many sleeping areas or privacy as you might wish. Depends on how much everyone gets along.

You'll get much better value off-site with a condo or villa than you will on-site. A grand villa on site is pretty $$.

A Treehouse Villa at Saratoga Springs will sleep up to 9 (so might not work); rack on those ranges from $834-1500/night, depending on season.
The only Grand Villa that sleeps more than 9 is the Jambo House Grand Villa.

Otherwise, you are always looking at 2 or three rooms, depending on where you want to stay.
Options:
  • A 2BR villa + studio at most DVC properties
  • 2 Art of Animation Family Suites
  • 2-3 4/5 person rooms at Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans Riverside (for the person needing to sleep 5 with her three kids)

If it were us, this would probably be the configuration we would choose with the understanding that we may not be next door to each other. WDW will do their best to keep you in the same proximity, and that would be good enough for us. Another option in the moderate level are the cabins at Fort Wilderness which hold six.

If you are up for camping the campsites at the fort hold up to 10 people each and are pretty cheap. You can also rent an RV from a company in the area to be delivered to your campsite.

We've done multiple trips with large family groups and usually rented a 2 bedroom at either OKW or SSR -- one time we even had a 3 bedroom (those are a nightmare to try and reserve and actually get). Anyhow, I'd highly suggest that you go with the multiple rooms at either CBR or POR -- we found somebody was always grumpy by the end of the day with somebody else, and that Disney can be pretty overwhelming to begin with, throw in typical family issues and its just a little too much closeness. No matter how well you get along now, you will stay getting along that well if you can go back to your own rooms at night and get a little break from each other.

Thank you all for your ideas! General consensus of the family is we MUST stay on property. Tom makes a lot of sense. I think to keep peace in the ranks I'll look for 3-4 rooms, even if they're not connecting. Might be best if they're not!

It's good when traveling with a posse to split up. Any time the group gets that large, everyone has different nap and touring styles. And that's okay!

You can have togetherness without chaining yourselves to each other.

There are moderates that sleep 5. I would start there.

I would also ask I n the DISabilities forum for aca rooms. Those folks can offer a lot of advice

Room 1: You, Husband
Room 2: Daughter, Husband, Teen 1, Teen 2
Room 3: SIL, Kid 1, Kid 2, Kid 3

If bed sharing isn't an issue, three rooms at a value (all star/Pop)? If not, POR has rooms that sleep 5. My other idea would be two value suites at AoA.

It doesn't sound like daughter is married to first husband anymore. It would be unusual to refer to someone as a "first husband" if he were the only husband...

I didn't even think about that. I thought it was odd sounding but I guess it didn't occur to me someone would vacation with an ex. I suppose daughter could bunk with SIL then, or she could be with the 2 teens and ex husband can get his own room? Regardless, multiple rooms is likely going to be cheaper than a 3 bedroom villa.

Maybe they get on well. It sounds like it may be a unique situation.

If I read it correctly, the daughter is married to the SIL and her ex husband is also coming with their two kids.

I've got it now! I have been taking SIL as sister in law, when I clearly see now she meant son in law. Makes a LOT more sense. Duh. Not sure why i didn't catch that earlier.

Room 1: DH and OP
Room 2: Daughter and SIL + kids
Room 3: Ex Husband + Teens

I am sure that her husband would appreciate his wife NOT rooming with her ex :rotfl:
