What are our on-site options for a family of 6 at the hotels at Universal?

At time of travel, kids will be 11, 9, 4, and 1.

Comfort isn't a consideration--we are just checking the "legalities" of occupancy at Universal as we have never stayed there.

Do rooms accommodate 5 + 1 infant? (Asking as we are permitted to occupy a 5 person room at Disney, so I was curious if this was allowed at Universal even if it may be a tight squeeze.)

If we must do two rooms, do they have connecting rooms and what is the ease of getting these during the spring break timeframe?

We are planning a trip for 2012 during my husband's 40th and he was born during spring break season. We wanted to stay on property for the benefits of FOTL. We are just figuring out the logistics of HOW to accomplish that with being a large family.

5 are legally allowed. You aren't legally allowed to have a sixth even if it is an infant. There are no suites that allow more than 5 legally either.

But to let you know how it works...to get FOTL you need a room key for each person to show to the ride attendant. So 5 of you would receive room keys at the normal room price. You also need to show a room key to get early entrance. I'm sure people cram more than 5 into a room but if you want to get FOTL and early entrance for everyone, it won't work.

Yes, they do. Like Disney though, I don't think they will guarantee them.

Make sure you call a few days before you go and talk to the room controller to make sure of this. All the reservationist will do is put it on your reservation --- they don't assign the rooms.

We're a family of six and stayed at PBH in December. We reserved two rooms and when we were making the reservation, we would be put on hold to see whether or not they could guarantee connecting rooms.

At different points in time, we had different types of rooms reserved. For one set of rooms, they could guarantee connecting rooms; for another set of rooms, they couldn't. They said it depends on the type of rooms you want - view, beds, and standard vs. deluxe combinations. We originally wanted one king bed and one 2-queens bed, but it ended up that to get the other things we wanted, we needed to switch the king to a 2-queens to get connecting rooms.

They were really nice about the whole thing.

As an aside, at most of the rides and such, they DID check all of our key cards. Sometimes we would think they weren't checking them all only to get farther into the attraction and have them all scanned then. Only a few times (when there wasn't really any regular line anyway) did they not check closely and just wave us in.

I did this and it worked well. When we checked in, our assigned rooms were already listed in their computer.

I was told on the last two stays that I would have a sofa in my room since we had 6 in the room.Got there no sofa.This past Nov.we booked 2 rooms wanted them connecting.they did tell me they are not quarenteed but that he was putting me in rooms that had a sofa.Got there,nope,no sofa.The rooms were right next to each other just not connecting which was ok.I've learned never believe what they tell you on the phone.

We booked our rooms with the AAA discount through Universal and were told because of the category room that AAA has our request for connecting rooms is guaranteed. We have done this for years now and have never not had the connecting rooms. I was told that the rooms with the obstructed views don't have connecting rooms at all. We travel as a family of 4 with our two "kids" being in their 20s and have always been granted our connecting rooms. I will say that even though others say to call before hand I have never done that. I request it when making my reservations and that is it.

Thanks---good to know.oes. We aren't. We just were trying to find out what they were. All we have had in the past is Disney and for the under 3's--they don't provide them any id. So I just did not know.

Perhaps I might do as the other poster suggests and go with AAA.

I saw on the website that the deluxe rooms do have a couch but I thought that max occupancy is still 5. Do they allow 6?

Pretty sure Racefan9 had two King rooms at the RPR with 3 in each room (hence the 6) and the need for the sleeper sofa.
