Apologies if this is in the wrong place but I thought I would pick your knowledgable brains as were relatively new to DVC - what do think my chances are of booking a 1 bed villa at The Boardwalk from about Dec 30 2017 - 7 Jan, it isn't our home resort so would be booking 7 months out? Just want to know if we need a few back up plans!! Thanks so much in advance xx

About zero chances for Dec 30 thru Jan 1 absent getting lucky with a waitlist. Jan 2 likely for at least pool/garden view 1BR, Jan 3 through 6 is currently an unknown because it depends on whether that weekend will be marathon weekend in 2018 (it could instead be the next weekend). If part of marathon weekend, then zero for those dates without waitlist, if not, you will likely be able to get at least pool garden view one bedroom.

Thank you so much for the replies, I thought these would be the answers especially because of NYE and the dates have been confirmed that Marathon Weekend is 3-7, hence me asking really, we will be there over Christmas staying at our home resort (hopefully anyway!!) then offsite for a few days then back for the Marathon Weekend. I'm guessing that the Beach Club will be the same then?? We might try the wait list but it's not a deal breaker if we can't stay there, we're not fussy ha ha but it just would have been nice if hubby and kids could have cheered me on without having to travel to far!! xx

Beach Club will be the same. You will definitely want to book home resort for those dates and see what you can do at 7 months.

Since you have back up, give the waitlist a shot - you never know. :)

Thank you all again, glad I asked as at least we know which way we need to be heading now with our planning xx

I'll take a contrarian view. IMO the chances of getting a pool garden view 1 BR is excellent if one approaches it well and makes the best use of the wait list. But I'd agree that a back up plan is important the the stress may not work for the faint of heart.

Dec 31 is probably THE most difficult night to reserve. Book your home resort then try to switch at 7 months, that is if your home resort is at WDW.

Thanks everyone for such good advice, think we're gonna book our home resort, it is at WDW, we love it there just wanted a change and hubby has always fancied trying the Boardwalk, probably shouldn't try a non home resort at the busiest time of the year though hey!!! X

Like everyone else said with a waitlist and a 1 bedroom, you could get lucky.

Especially if you book what you can at 7 months and then waitlist days at a time, you just may get it. Keep looking, you will be surprised at what shows up.

I'm willing to wager that I could get BW for those dates of some villa type or the other at or after the 7 month window. It'd likely require using the WL but I'm confident it can be done.

If you wait-list, make sure you do it as early as possible on that 7 month window opening preferably at 8:00 am EST. On holiday's people plans change all the time.
Like Dean, I believe you can get it.

The other option -- if you're up for a little more work -- is to transfer someone's BWV points into your account in order to get the home resort priority window. Obviously, you'll have to outlay some cash for the transaction -- but once you lock those points up, you can then rent or transfer some of your points (you'll have to transfer a different UY if you only have one contract) to recoup your other costs.

It's more work -- but it could be worth it to not have to stalk the RAT.
