Just returned last night from an amazing weekend of running in WDW!
I have been a Disney fan for as long as I can remember, so when I took up running about 1 1/2 years ago, I set my goal of running in the WDW 1/2 marathon. I ran one other 1/2 last May so that I would know what to expect running-wise. I am glad that I did, because I knew that I could finish the WDW 1/2, and I could just focus on the fun.
THANK YOU so much to everyone on these boards! All of the advice, tips, and tidbits of information that I learned from here really helped to make the weekend more magical!
I cannot think of a better way to bond with your 17 y.o. DD, than to get up at 4:00 a.m. and run a 5k through EPCOT! We had a blast stopping for some photos, and proudly wearing our finisher medals all day at the parks!
The WDW 1/2 was much more than I expected. Disney sure knows how to put on a race! Everyting was top-notch...the Expo, transportation from our resort (CBR), entertainment, the race itself, and the cool Donald Duck medal! I stopped for about a dozen photos on the race course, and while in line, chatted with many other runners from around the world who were just as excited and happy to be there as I was.
As I was laying in bed on Sunday morning, thinking how good it felt to sleep in, I was also thinking about the marathoners out on the course, and how much I admire them. I also felt a little jealous, and like maybe I was missing out on something. I have always told myself that I would never do a full marathon, because of all of the time involved in training, but who knows.....
