I was just reading about Tables in Wonderland which costs $175 for FL resident. It states the discount is 20%, but gratuity is automatically added @ 18%. Sooo I don't see that there is any savings at all - am I missing something - why would you purchase this?

Well, if you dine out and you would normally leave a tip, then you're still saving 20%. If you don't tip then I suppose it wouldn't be a savings.
Meal $100 plus tip would be $115 or $120 depending on what kind of tipper you are.
With TIW $100 meal becomes $80 with 20% off. Add 18% tip on the original $100 (so $18) and meal becomes $98 ($80+18)
$98 is cheaper than $115-$120. Do this multiple times a year....

I think much like the dining plan, you have to crunch numbers and look at how you eat, how often you'd use it, etc. For some it saves money, for others, not so much. TIW does cover alcohol, so if you have a few drinks with dinner, I can see where you'd get more value out of it.

Yes, you are definitely missing something. You're forgetting that if you didn't have TiW you'd still need to add a tip to your meal.

It IS a 20% savings. Now do the math to make sure you eat/spend enough to make up for the fee. That is the real question.

If you do not want to tip then your best option is stick with QS.

Well that kind of comment will get the thread closed or moved to the tip thread, and neither should be necessary here.

Some people just see the closeness in percentages and get it mixed up. Doesn't mean they weren't going to tip. Doesn't mean they were. All that's needed is to remind them that TS does expect a tip, and this just makes it easier. And remind them of counter services included and of valet, etc.

(and never fear, IF there's such a problem during the meal that that tip is questionable, *talk to the manager*...actually, try to get it fixed long before the bill comes so everyone is aware)

We found that before the price increase (originally $100) it was worth it for us as pass holders. We are currently debating if we should get it again for the coming year as we have 2 trips planned. For us, we usually tip 20% so the 18% was less than what we would normally tip. It really depends on how much you spend on dinners and drinks.

It is $175 for FL residents - $150 for Annual Pass or DVC. So it went up $50 for everyone.

As dvc members the price is 150. We are on our third card and it is totally worth it for us. We usually have at least four people with us and get a bottle of wine with dinner. So a 200 dinner becomes 160 and even with a 18% tip we save a lot because we would usually leave a $40 tip or 20% tip anyway. We used it last November, in March for several restaurants and we are going again right after Thanksgiving for a week and will use it almost every night for dinner and a few lunches. It has more than paid for itself for us. It's also good in lounges if you just want a drink or some appetizers.

My wife and I were just discussing TIW a few minutes ago. We usually buy a TIW card (DVC / AP rate). We usually go to HDDR and take advantage of the TIW discount for the 8:30 show. That nearly covers the cost of the card. We had a party of seven one year, and it more than paid for the TIW card.

This year is tricky. We are going in November (just the four of us), and we aren't planning to attend a show. I have four table service meals booked over our seven nights. We are also going in July 2017; we will more than likely go to HDDR on that trip with a party of 8. My wife wants to wait until July 2017 to get the card, but we typically don't go to WDW three years in a row. We'd basically buy TIW for just the single trip.

As other have mentioned, you can also save 20% at numerous counter service locations, which adds up pretty quickly. Plus: booze!

To complicate things, some table service locations offer 10% to 15% off for DVC members or AP holders. If I can save the cost of the $150 TIW card, and still save using other options, I may come out ahead.

I guess it's time to sharpen the proverbial pencil.

The AP & DVC discounts do not include alcohol do they? My husband and I do like our wine - especially when Disney is driving us home
