What am I doing wrong?

Agree with this.

AND Disney uses the word "view" very loosely - it doesn't really mean a view as in what you see, it means the direction that your room faces. That can be very disappointing if you book for a visual view. I once booked pool view at AKL and had no view of the pool at all, my view was the tops of the roofs of the restaurants ... but my room faced the courtyard the pool was in, so technically it was.

At POP I always ask for Lake View. There I do get the benefit of looking at the lake, day or night, and agree it was nice to be what I see coming in and out. Another advantage of that view is that it is very very quiet back there. And being strategic in what you pick you can avoid other views, if fulfilled and side benefits.

The problem with booking specifically for view is that if you don't understand "view" in Disney speak, you may be very disappointed. I booked POFQ water view after having stayed at AKL. I really did not realize the whole exterior corridor thing and that water is water. Now I know, so I don't bother with the "view" in regards to the mods. I tend to think about location. For a POFQ stay I choose a building as a request and skip all others. I do understand why some folks will request and pay for a view, but I think that what "view" means at a moderate or value resort can be a tad misleading.

It's misleading everywhere. All it means is which way the room faces and not the actual view.

For a moderate a water view will usually mean no parking lot view, which is why sometimes you can box a location based on requests.

Absolutely.

You made too many requests and sometimes when that happens, none of them are granted. Try and pick what is most important, such as King bed or corner room with a pack-n-play. Honestly, I think a number of guests are too hung up on getting a specific room, view, or upgrade - you're at Disney, just enjoy yourself.

I've had good luck with room requests at the resorts we've stayed (deluxe). I feel that an attempt has always been made to meet my request. I make requests that are general enough that multiple rooms would meet the requirement.

But, at the end of the day, they are just that - requests. I don't think that anyone should expect that any room request will be met. They are based on what is available when they are assigning your room. Room requests are popular and it's possible that when the room was assigned, there weren't any that met your criteria. Somebody has to get that parking lot view. Frankly, I would prefer a parking lot view than a pool view because a quiet location is usually one of my requests.

I do think that good service would mean that your pack and play was waiting for you in the room. When the kids were little, I always appreciated arriving at a room that had the pack and play or crib set-up and ready for nap/bedtime. I think details such as a pack-n-play set up show more attention to service, which I think was a little lacking.

The other thing to remember is certain categories of rooms have a higher price tag. So if a standard room is booked at a great, low rate, asking for a special view will then move that up a category and therefore cost more. So that request would be ignored since the room rate is lower. Always make requests simple. I only ask for two at most. Also make sure they aren't conflicting. Good luck

I like to check in in person. they like to give out the available rooms first. when shown our approximate room location, we have often said we are willing to wait for a dif. room. if I'm going to be in the room for a week or more, I'd rather wait a few hours for a room that better fits my needs. we spend the time by the pool. (of course, that doesn't always work out if it's raining, or if you have small, tired kids.)

Just getting back to this post ☺️ I should clarify, I didn't expect a king room with a lake view and a corner room. I was hoping for 1 of the 3 requests and listed them in order of preference. Maybe that's where the disconnect is, between myself and the room assignor.

With that being said, we weren't crazy about Pop. I had heard such good things, maybe I just got my hopes up. We returned to our fave Mod, POR a few months later and were granted my requests for an upper floor and corner room. Yay!

So I booked our stay online a few months ago and put in the request box : waterview, King bed, corner room. Like I had read to do, I called 5 days out and spoke with a very nice cast member. I requested "no parking lot view" and a pack n play. She said that our reservation was noted and they would do their best.
We arrived today and were given a parking lot view. Double beds. Definitely not a corner room and there was no pack n play. Seriously, do they even read the requests? I know our request was available, because when I called, they easily moved us to a landscape view room. Super frustrating though.
With that being said, Pop is a beautiful resort.

If you want something then you would pay for it. That's how it works. A request is just that a request.

That was the point of my original post, though, if requests aren't wanted, they shouldn't have a place for them to be entered online. If I could pay for a king, corner, lake view room I certainly would have though. No need to be snarky. Have a magical day ☀️

I agree with that. But I will actually ask disney about requests in general.

I think that when you narrow the selection pool so much with requests you reduce your chances of getting anything you want. They just do not know what is importnat to you.

Moving forward, when you make requests, think about what aspect of the room is most important. For instance, when I stay at the BC< I only request a large balcony. I know that my chances are still limited, but i have increased them by not muddying up the water with additional requests that also need to be met.

I dont care about view, but I do care about location when I stay in a moderate. I pay for preferred buildings, but may add a building number. That's it.

If we travel as a large group I like connecting rooms. I make that my only request, and so far we have been lucky.

I don't see the purpose in requesting particular "views" at values or mods. Your basic view is through the windows into the outdoor corridor and whatever lies beyond that. And how much time are you really going to spend admiring the view anyway? I can see it in a deluxe with a balcony, but not at the value and mod resorts.

I mean, we were in the most coveted building at CSR (Bus. Class), and I cannot tell you what our "view" was beyond the covered corridor and the shrubbery along that. The lake was beyond that, but I'll be darned if we spent much time with our noses pressed against our room windows staring at it. We saw it every time we walked anywhere anyway.

just to play devil
s advocate about "view" requests at values and moderates: I never spend time with my nose pressed against the window. but I do spend a lot of time standing outside the room , leaning on the railing, with and adult beverage and looking around. my "version" of a balcony. and I see the view everytime ai leave and return to the room.
however, the thing hubby likes about the value and moderate resorts is I cna change the view by walking around the corner or down a bit on the outdoor corridor and lean on that balcony for a bit!
but, sorry view is important to us.
however, we try to make only 1, maybe 2requests. because the room assignor will look at it and think.. "
now.. what are they looking for?" adn maybe give you a lst request (which is the least importatn to you.
I also try to check in early and I don'[t do online check in, I make room requests by phone.. I check in in person at the desk and if I dont' care for the rrom assighned me I say "what else ya got? alsmost always theyoffer something else better but it'snot ready.. we say "okey doke.. we'll wait for it" and go to the pool

ps, corner room at the values don't matter, they don't have 2 windows, like in the moderates

I think it's funny that a thread from 2016 was resurrected for clarification

yeah didn't notice that. I guess I was being repetitive. lol...but there are no real corner" rooms at the values, and there are no lake view rooms in the preferred category. OP might be surprised someday at POR when they book and pay for courtyard view and there are so many rooms in the magnolia bend section facing the "parking lot" courtyard where the lot and the cars are very visible.

Ah, but corner rooms only have two abutting rooms, not three :) or potentially five if you count other floors.
