What am I doing wrong?? Major PE 9 problem ..

Hi.. ok so I downloaded for 30 days, the adobe photo shop elements 9, because for free that is all adobe offered.

I read the directions on how to do a word fill, and I did all the steps but when I got to “grouping together” part on the layers, they layers tab didn’t give me that option.

I don’t know what I was doing wrong.. please help! Thanks!

Assuming PSE 9 works like PSE 6 & 7 and CS4 you have to hover the mouse pointer over the line between the two layers while holding down the Alt. key. The cursor should change to a set of over lapping circles and all you have to do is click to make a clipping mask.

ooooo the ALT key.. ok . in the directions i think it said control key.. no wonder it would not show me the connector!!

another problem i had, was on the 3rd try i reloaded my image inot my work space, i coul dnot get the boxes to pop up to drag the image to make it bigger like the directions said.. an there was no green check mark.. any suggestions on this?

ok that suggestion worked., now i could not get my word to expand i could not make it larger. what am i doing wrong?

also i got it to be in the word, but the color turned black and white.. what did u do wrong?

First off try this tutorial for photos in type. It's written for full Photoshop but works the same in Elements.

The only thing I can think of for why you can't expand the text is that you are not on that layer. Make sure the text layer is highlighted in the layers palette and you should be able to re-size it. You may have trouble grabbing it if there's another layer on top of it. Try holding down the ctrl key while clicking on the layer. You can then resize using the drop down box on the menu bar. if you want a size larger than what's available just type in the number and hit enter.

As for the black and white...not sure but it sounds like the layers are in the wrong order. The text must be on top of the photo.

If you're still having problems you could try doing a screen capture so We could see what you've got going on.

ok i got the color down. i cropped the area and then saved as jpeg... now how do i outline it...

Again assuming they did not move it in PSE 9 you go to the Edit menu and select Stroke. A box will come up allowing you to select color, size and placement (inside, center, or outside).

ok jus tposted my visit report. i noticed that the images have this white box around them... so did my sig. but it seems that in this thread it doesn't..

anyhow here is the link to my report.. please tell me why my title image has a white box around it. it was done in photo shop i saved it as a gif.. did i do something wrong? im really frustrated, i want them to be transclucent

I still use a really old version (5.0) but the basics should be the same.

If you unclick the eye on the background layer - your background should be disappear and thus you would have a transparent background. Then when you save as a gif - the background should remain transparent.

ok so even though i saved as gif, with transparant background.. i still have to unclick the eye..? ok i will try that. maybe i did click it.. sometimes i get mouse clicking happy.. thanks i will try that!!

Not hijacking your thread or anything, but I wanted to thank Dom13 for posting that Tut! I did it too! Not sure why there is that little bit of blue behind and between some of the letters but ... Yay me!

OH ITS OK.. Ur desing looks rad! the blue behind it . it looks like you have to much of an outer glow

anyhow i was having a problem the other day, oh why am i getting a "white box" around my signature name .. but in some of the foriums it's gone, but in some it shows up? did i do something wrong? i save all my stuff for the web as a gif and opitmized for web with no dither..anyhow this forum it shows no white box. but on the main disneyland boards in some of the threads i get a white box, and i deleted out the background....

In PSE each layer is a frame of the animation. Cycle through each of your frames by turning on and off each layer using the eye ball. You'll quickly see which layer is the offending layer. I'm not sure whether you'll have to delete it or can just turn it off. I've done lots of animation, including all these guys, , but not with PSE (or PS) so I'm not sure how that part works.

Lauren, it looks like the blue is not clipped in to the letters. I'd need to see the layers to know for sure.
