Probably a dumb question, but, what airport have you flown into for HH vacations? I see an airport in Hilton Head and one in Savannah, which do you prefer and why?

Savannah (SAV) is an international airport with full service and many flight options. It is about an hour's drive to HH from the airport.

Hilton Head (HHH) is the local commuter airport.

Actually, US Airways and Delta fly into Hilton Head Airport (HHH).

They do, but at a premium -- and you have to connect in either Charlotte or Atlanta to get there.

Since you will want to rent a car for Hilton Head anyhow, you will probably come out ahead by flying into Savannah and skipping the commuter connection. Some people have also gotten good deals by flying into Jacksonville (FL), Columbia (SC), or Charleston (SC) and driving 2-3 hours to Hilton Head.

A few brave souls have even driven from Atlanta, which is 4+ hours away.

Ha ha. I was one of those brave souls. I saved $400 on four plane tickets and I still wouldn't recommend doing it.:)

If I go to HH again, I will pay the extra money to fly into Savanna.

Now you've really made me look forward to tomorrow -- NOT!!! We live in the NW suburbs of Atlanta. So not only do I have to make the drive from Atlanta to Hilton Head, I have to go THROUGH the city (or around it) to get there. At least driving from the airport, you are saved from most of that task. Driving in and around Atlanta is definitely a challenge...

Nonetheless, I'm packing up the car today and will head out towards Hilton Head right after rush hour tomorrow. Bought my audio books to keep me company.... It will be more than worth it once I get there. Thanksgiving at Hilton Head is one of my absolute favorite things, especially since Chef Gordon is going to do a little cooking for our get-together on Wednesday night!! :thumbsup2

DD is driving down from North Carolina, DH and DS will drive out later in the day on Tuesday.

We flew into Charleston this year and saved a couple hundred dollars, but I'm not sure if I'd like it.Next year I think we'll go back to flying into Savannah unless Southwest has a real good sale to Jacksonville.
