What age would you let yourself "go gray"

I will be 47 and I still have more natural color then gray. I HATE just going to get a haircut..so I have no plans right now to dye my hair. I may change my mind at some point, but not now

I'm 65 and figure I'll color for another 20 years or so. ;)

I am 58 and I think I will probably not dye my hair again. It is coming in silver. I seem to have problems when I dye my hair so am not sure if it is really good for me to put that stuff on and in my body.

I am 38, and underneath the Clairol I am 90% gray. I've been dying my hair since age 25 because of gray.

I was mentioning another need to go to the salon to my 70yo dad, and he said, why don't you just let it go gray???

I'm not ready for that. I know that. But I do tire of going to the salon, and I am lousy at doing it myself. I don't think I'm vain, but I still care about my looks. Just sick of the hair coloring all.the.time.

What age would you/did you allow yourself to go gray? Does it matter if you were a blonde vs brunette? (I was brunette)

…..STILL fighting tooth-and-nail….;)

I am 62 and I have been coloring my hair since I was 17. I was a mousy brown and hated it. I suppose when I am too old to do it, I will have to go completely natural, but not until then!

My hairdresser says that most women stop coloring their hair after their children get married.

I stopped in my mid 50's (I'm 60) and my hair color doesn't bother me a bit. What used to bother me more is when my gray "roots" were showing ; an indication to get that box of dye.......now all of the gray is showing and I'm good with it! :)

I did dye my hair for 10 years, tho.

First, I'm a guy, so I don't know if my opinion matters, but I've been pretty much letting my hair do what's it's doing and going with it. I am 37, and for the past few years I have been getting a bald spot in the back, the front is receding, and gray is sneaking it's way in. I figure, why fight it?

I will stop coloring my hair shortly after they close the casket lid. My sister has made me promise that she will die "gray-free" even if it means I have to climb into her casket with a bottle of shoe polish. :rotfl:

I have managed to look about a decade younger than I really am, but if my hair went gray I'd age 10-15 years in an instant. I don't dye all my hair, just the roots where my hair parts and by my face. Most of the gray that shows just looks like I have highlighted my hair, due to me being blonde.

Yep! Same here :)

Lol...that's ridiculous. I'm 47 and the mom of a 21 and 23 year old...they aren't getting married anytime soon, but I'm guessing in the next 10 years...and nope...not going grey! My mom will be 73 this year and a Great Grandma and still dyes here hair. Now my Mother in law is 80 something and she's been grey for the past 10 years..she has always looked way older than my mom.

I'd struggle with the thought of all gray in my 30's, too. I'm in my late 40's and have been having blonde highlights put in to jazz up my mousy brown for the past several years. My stylist is a friend of mine & we have had the discussion that it's probably not terribly far off when highlights aren't going to cut it anymore. I'll be more sad when that day comes because full color will require so much more upkeep than my highlight strategy has.

:thumbsup2 If that.

Unless you have gorgeous silver hair, then flaunt it. But grey, nope, never will happen. Bury me with a box of Clairol.

Well, I've heard your hair keeps growing after you dye, so I guess you'll be prepared. :rotfl:

I was a redhead an with the Florida sun an pool time every time I dyed no matter the brand within a few days I was a blonde. DH hates blonde hair an I don't like it on me so I quite dying a couple of yrs ago.

My DD once asked me If I was trying to cover up what she had done to me giving me all the gray hair......by dying hair....YES I earned each an everyone an it's all DD's fault.

Not the women in my family, and I plan to follow in their footsteps.

My gray hair is wiry, not nice and smooth silver, so I will keep my brunette hair for as long as I have hair. My aunts are in their late 70s and not a gray hair to show! :thumbsup2

I went gray in 2007, when I was 50. It actually looks pretty nice, mostly silver in the front, medium brown in back.

I recently lost a lot of weight so I'm updating my wardrobe and wondering if I need to revisit this whole "going grey" idea. Not sure if I want the upkeep or not.

That's a myth about hair continuing to grow after death.

If I look like my mom when she went grey, I'm definitely going to dye it once it starts coming in. I don't know yet what age that will be. I'm 47, so I guess it will be soon.

Oh, Vanity thy name is woman. DW was in the same boat as the majority of you; going gray at an early age, coloring her hair until her late 30s when it was damaging her hair. She's always getting compliments on the color and I don't mind it either (no gray here-YET) as people think she's with a MUCH younger guy.
