What age is too old to buy into DVC?

My wife and I went through this same dilema over 20 years ago. We decided to purchase a DVC membership and never regretted it. We are now 65 years old with 8 grandchildren. We try to have a large family vacation together every other year and the concensus opinion is to go to the Magic Kingdom. We established a family tradition and somewhat of a legacy to pass on. Our home resort is OKW and found as the children get older Epcot is more desirable to visit but the young grandchildren like the Magic Kingdom. So we are centrally located and we use the bus system. When you are all together there is always something going on which makes the ride seem not as long. Obviously my recommendation is to go for it assuming you can afford it. Keep in mind with the way things are always changing our children may not be able to afford a membership but adding on points to accomodate a growing family is a less expensive option.

You should buy and enjoy for as many years as you desire. Personally I think DVC is a great thing to hand down to next generation. Plan on giving each of my daughters a hefty sum of points each If you prefer to sale when the time is right I think you will get a fair return after considering your initial purchase price and all the wonderful vacations you and your family enjoyed!

We are both in our middle 60's and bought a couple of years ago with the intention of going as long as we can. Both of us will be retired in the next couple of months. We also enjoy a trip with all of our grown children and grandchildren as many times as possible, we bought at OKW because of the room sizes. Going this December with everyone, got a GV. ALso going back in Feburary with my daughter for her birthday because she is doing the Princess half marathon for the first time and also planning a whole family trip in October for the first time. We have added on twice since buying. My one son and daughter both would like to take it over after we are too old to use it anymore, we have been going down since 73 and should of bought in sooner. That is why we added on different contracts and bought with the 2057 experation date.

We bought at 51. If we were still happy staying at moderates we probably wouldn't have bought. However, we decided we were permanently into the premium resorts and DVC was our way of affording the type of place we wanted to stay along with the amount of time we wanted our vacations to last. DVC alters the choices and requires a different type of planning but, for us, it's just a more permanent room discount offer.

I have wondered this same question, as the desire to be DVC members grows with me every week. I am 41 now and my DH is 43- our kids are still young but we do have school schedules to work around (my kids and my job). Planning our upcoming Christmas trip has really made me think about DVC- staying onsite is too expensive OOP for a 2 bedroom and so we are staying offsite. If we do decide to become members, I will look forward to trips with our college aged kids, grandkids, and even just the two of us during retirement.

What? You can be too old to purchase DVC???? We were in our 50's when we purchased 15 years ago. We are still enjoying our membership at 65 and 66, and I would buy again even now if I needed more points.

I agree with Diane, you are never too old to enjoy Disney or DVC. When Mom & I bought together in 1992, she was 68 and I was 33 at the time. Mom passed away last August at the age of 87, and even then, we had a DVC vacation planned. She rode most of the rides, including Mission Space and Primevel Whirl...just not the big coasters, on every trip. Disney really kept her young and active right up to the end.

We just returned from Disney and I think I'm getting close to convincing my husband that we should do it. My nest egg is getting larger. We want to go back next June for my daughters high school graduation. She wants a trip over a grad party. Now I'm wondering if I should purchase now so I don't have to rent points for next year?

Good for you. I was going to say we bought 5 years ago, my husband was 52 and I was 47. We bought so we could afford more family vacations. We have had several couple trips, some big family vacations and have been able to provide rooms for friends that we invited to come with us. We took our family to Hilton Head this past spring break. These are just things we could not have done without DVC. Such wonderful memories we are building. Now we did buy because I had inherited some money and we could pay cash for it, but we have never regretted it and have added on twice. We have had 8 trips so far out of our points and enjoyed each and every one. Good luck on your contract, hope it goes thru!

Thanks. We are hoping to add to our collection of memories too! May I ask you how was Hilton Head? Are there plenty of things to do? I was also wondering about Vero Beach?
