What age did your kids stop using a stroller

This definitely depends on the child! We have a bit of a bonus when we go to WDW because it is at sea level and we live a mile high so we are on an oxygen high at WDW and have a much easier time walking around. We are also VERY active and can walk a LOT. As for my children, we stopped BRINGING a stroller when they were 5 but they didn't really need it much when they were 4.

And here's a tip, we brought an old umbrella stroller and just left it at WDW for another child when we were done with the trip. So we didn't always use the stroller when we went to the parks but we had it if we needed it then we were able to give someone else a stroller that was going to have to rent or pay for one. This only worked out for us because we were planning on getting rid of it anyway BEFORE our trip but we thought this was a good option for us.

Hmmmm. I guess we're gonna think on this one. I will see how the next two trips go. My almost 4 year old hardly ever uses a stroller anymore so it's hard to tell. The sit/stand stroller is also a good idea. I may look into that so at least I have an option if he gets tired. Thanks for all the info!:cutie:

sit n stands can be awkward and hard to push especially w/ older children another option you could think about is the board that attaches. You can also look into using a carrier like an ergo that you can hold the baby when the older two want to ride.

I know we had completely gotten rid of the stroller by the time DD was 4, so 3 & 1/2 maybe? She thought it was funny to use her ankles/feet to suddenly stop it; after the 2nd or 3rd time she tried that trick we got rid of it completely. DH and DD really like to go back to the hotel for a swim in the afternoons so she's never really complained that she was tired/her feet hurt (unless she's trying to get a root beer float or mickey bar break). :lmao:

I hope that is an option but both my kids wouldn't stand carriers of any sort. I got the girl in a hip hammock when she was one for a few days at WDW but other then that I couldn't get them in them at all and believe me I tried from birth.

We took a double last year, kids were almost 5 and 2...and my 5yr old sat in it about 30% of the time !! Even if she wasn't in it, we used it to carry our stuff around!

I would take a double stroller (Love our double umbrella) and a Baby Bjorn or Ergo or sling for the baby in case both of the older kids want to ride.

BTW...we are taking our double again for our kids in December, would rather have it, than have two tired whiney kids!!!

We went a few years ago with children almost those exact ages (5,4 and 8 monts) We took a double stroller and a single stroller! But of course we drove so we did not have to worry about the size of strollers. Most days we used the double jogger andf the baby rode always and the older two took turns. We used both strollers on the nights when we knew we would be at the parks super late and everyone would be tired.

our family it seems to be around 4 that we stop using the strollers anywhere. But we also do ALOT of walking at home. We live just a few miles from a shopping center, so it's not uncommon for me the & boys to just walk there & do some shopping and walk home. there is also a park about a mile away from our house and we walk to that at least 3/4 times a week. and if we don't walk to the park, we at least walk around our neighborhood after dinner each night.

Over the past 6 or so years, we have really tried to increase the amount of walking we do. I think this makes it easier for us not to lug the strollers around... although, to be honest, I do miss the stroller for hauling STUFF

I guess the answer depends on how much walking your family normally does. GL! (and congrats!)

We had the Joovy Caboose (sit & stand) and DS would sit on that some when he was 3. Then at Disney he used it until he was 4 (that's the only place where he couldn't walk the whole time). Our last trip he was 4.5 and he didn't use a stroller at all at Disney.
DD is 2.5 and she still likes & uses it sometimes, definitely at Disney.

It really depends on your family and your kids. Every one told me we wouldn't need a double stroller (we took DD who was almost 3 and my niece who was 7) so we just took the single....HUGE MISTAKE! I would have given my right arm and left leg for a double stroller. My niece was the biggest rider of the weekend....meaning the few times my DD wanted to ride we ended up carrying her.

Even if they don't get tired it is still easier and faster to get from place to place with kids in a stroller! ;)

Didn't read the PP's, but what if you took a double? That way the 4 and 5 year old could take turns taking a break if they needed, and there would be a place for the infant. My dd is 5 and ds 3. We are taking a double this trip, I figure better safe than sorry. Plus I like having the stroller to put everything while we are walking around.

DD is 4 and DS is 6 and we still use a stroller. No one has ever told either of them that is not okay for older children to use strollers and we are so thankful! It saves on whining when we're out and about. We have a single for smaller trips and they tend to fight over that. The double comes out for bigger activities and definitely for Disney. We'll have it there again this December.

If you go in September it will be hot. I found it wiped my niece out. She slept in the stroller and used it a lot. She was almost 5 yrs old. She used the stroller again the following year at almost 6 yrs old. She walked a bit more but she walks slow and has asthma if she does too much.

I would go with a double for the older two next year and a single for the baby. I think the City Micro/Mini would work well. www.albeebaby.com has the double Micro on for $199.

My DS used a stroller the trip before last - in Sept 2009. He was 5 years and 2 months old. He did take a couple of naps in it. We just pushed it from area to area, and he got in when he was tired and needed a nap. This past trip was in Feb. We brought a stroller but didn't bring it into any parks. As a matter of fact, we never even took it out of the car while we were at WDW. He did fine without it. The main reason you would plan to bring it is if your kid(s) take a nap normally, at any point that you plan to be in the parks. The walking and getting tired thing isn't really a factor. Kids have more energy than most adults do, and actually can handle the walking better than an adult in most cases. The main problem is if they actually get tired - not just their feet. If the 2 kids do not normally take naps, you may want to plan to have a double stroller that will accommodate 1 older kid and the baby. Worse case, if both of them happen to be tired and having a melt down, someone could just carry the baby.

That's exactly what we do. Kids are 2, 5, and 6. I figure if we're going to bring a stroller for the 2 y.o., might as well make it a double, then the older two takes turns when they want. I also like have the bigger stroller to haul all of our stuff... :)

You guys don't find the doubles/sit & stands WAY harder to push and navigate through the crowds?

DD is small for her age, and had just turned 6 last trip. We did the first 2 days without a stroller, but broke it out on day 3. We are a rope drop to close family, and she was worn out by the 3rd day. We are going strollerless this year, and know we will have to take it slower, but at 7 she is just too old for it. We may end up breaking down and renting one at some point, but are gonig to try to avoid it.

To me, the double strollers that are side by side are not hard to push, but the sit and stands are harder, but not enough that I wouldn't use it. We have taken both, depends on which fits into the rental car easier. As for navigating through the crowds, any stroller is a pain, but so is holding the hands of 3 kids while they walk (one of them super-slooooooowly...) :)

We took one when my youngest DD had just turned 4. We pushed our backpack around in it for 2 days but she never wanted in. After the second day it went back in the car. She's has way more energy than I do. She is tired at the end of the day, but we all are and that's ok. (Note: tired is not the same as pushed to the point of exhaustion and unable to behave)
