I am in a dilemna over this. My dd is 7 and very responsible. She wants to get it done to get it "over with." I am thinking about taking her this afternoon when I pick her up from school to have it done.

Any thoughts?

UPDATE: Thanks for all the responses!! Actually, after I posted the original, I left work and just got home! I picked dd up at 2:35 and we headed to Claire's Boutique at the mall. Arrived by 3:15 and by 3:25 it was all over from paperwork to piercing!;) She got the big tears when she really realized what was happening, but the 2 clerks did it simultaneously and it was over!! Of course she got the high fives and hugs from me for being so brave!:D

My biggest problem now is soon to be 5 year old dd cried most of the way home because she wants hers done. *sigh* I'm still going to make her wait! (I think) I'll see how this goes first!!

DD#1 was 5. I helped her with the cleaning, etc. DD#2 was 6 1/2--she was offered the chance when she was 5 but declined. She cleans and turns them herself, etc., but I have to remind her to take them out and change them--one time the backs were practically a part of her ear. Gross but true. She is much better about it after that. We keep the cleaner out on the sink in their bathroom with the toothpaste, etc. so they don't forget.

DD was about 8 months old.

But, she got another piercing when she was about 8. She did well with them:D

My dd was 7, almost 8 yo. I had mine done the first time on my 8th bday. I had the 2nd ones done when I was 18 (I've let those holes close up-it hurt to wear anything in them).

I was 2 1/2 (I think --- I was very, very young). I didn't cry or anything. My mom helped me take care of my ears until I could get the routine down (a couple of years).
It all depends on the individual child -- every kid is different and will handle it a different way. Good luck!

I was 4 when I got mine done and I think my sister was even younger.

I was 10 and I wished I had them when I was about 7 or 8.

Let her get it done, I think my story might be a little inspirational. I was 13 and by no means could i get my ears pierced. well like the defient (sp) teenager that I was I frooze my ears and with a needle I pierced my own. I was in school when I di it, well when I come home all hell broke lose. my hles are all messed up at 45, I feel like my earrings are always uneven. let her get them done, I know she is only 7 but give her that responcibility, I bet she will be just fine.

My DD was 11, then 15, then 15, and then 17. She has 4 holes in one ear and two in the other. She wears a tiny little diamond in the top hole, and then tapers on down and wears just anything in the bottom one.

I say let her get them done. Our rule is DD can get them when she asks for them, she's shown no desire yet.

Doesn't piercing babies ears hurt them? I remember it stinging pretty bad and the alcohol stinging too.

My dad doesn't like pierced ears but my mom does, so they compromised and told my sister and I we could have them done at age 13. I was kinda chicken though and didn't have them done till February after I turned 13. My birthday is in October! hehe.

It is a hispanic thing...DD#1 was at 6 weeks, the twins were at 8 weeks. Here in MA you can't get them done before 6 weeks. I was done at birth :) I

We had our DD's done at 5. Had some problems with cheap ear rings. Switched to 18k and have had no problems since. She is now 9.

Go ahead - it's fun to give.

Our rule was she could get her ears pierced when she was old enough to take care of them. Unfortunatly, her ears are super sensitive and she has had them pierced twice. They became infected both times and we had to let them out.

My friend says that you should get them pierced at a body piercing place because they are much more sanitary than at the mall. I haven't got enough courage to do that yet, but maybe after the first of the year.
