Anyone have any experience with the value resorts? What's your opinion of them.

I think you'll find a lot of varied replies to this one. I personally have nothing bad to say about the values. My son & I had a blast last year at ASMo & are going back this year to ASMu. We're pretty much gone all day so we don't spend that much time at our resort. Walking around our resort & hopping over to Music or Sports was fine for us. The rooms were plenty for the two of us, but I can see if 4 people are staying there, it might get cramped.

I can't get a hotel room at the Jersey Shore for a week w/all the amenities that I'm getting at WDW (at any resort) for the same price (including airfare) so this year we're picking WDW again.

Good luck in your search & choice.

We spent 1 night at ASMusic. The room was very clean, cm nice, beds comfy, room fine for 2-3 people-4 would get tight after awhile.

My biggest complaint is that I requested non-smoking: I asked them to underline, highlight, asterisk, star, & any other way PLEASE make sure it was non-smoking. Well the room said non-smoking, but it certainly smelled like stale smoke. So bad, mind you, that my clothes smelled the next day after leaving the room!

We have stayed at AS Sports -- and will stay there in June. We had 3 adults and 1 child in the room and it wasn't overly cramped. I guess we just were never in the room enough to really feel like we were on top of each other!

We stayed at Movies the last 2 years, and we loved it, the theming was great, the buses were fine , the exception being DD in the evening... that was a slog (45-60 minutes!!) To be honest the only reason we upgraded was because of the food court.. nothing in particular against it, just not our thing and we felt choice for our taste was limited. We opted for PO beacuse we had closer access to DD and a sit down restaurant... then long story short we're now going to the Poly, but if it were a choice between back to ASMo or having to miss Disney for this year, I'd go in a heartbeat!

I agree with previous posters. We've been at all three values, the price is just too good not to when we're taking others with us and need more than one room. The AP rate of $66.08 tax included is fantastic. The food court is as good as the moderates, the pools aren't quite as fancy (no slide) but if you're not expecting deluxe accomodations they're wonderful. The CMs have always been helpful and the bus service is fine. We've had rooms once or twice that needed a bit of upkeep but nothing major and the maid service has been generally good.

The All Star Resorts, IMHO, are great value and still lots of fun esp. for famillies with younger children (or adults with child- like wonder for anything Disney).
The rooms are small but large enough to sleep in which is what I like to do in a hotel room. The pools are fine, not as elegent or as large as some of the other Disney Pools but adequeate for that late afternoon or early evening swim break from the parks.
Some say that the resorts are not much more than a Budget Inn with theming but I would disagree whole-heartedly.
The service is great, or has been when I have gone.
I have stayed at the Poly and the All Star Music and the difference in the service QUALITY was minimal.
The theming is great! What other resorts can boast that they have Sorcerer Mickey or The Three Caballeros in the pool? What other resort can boast they have a 40ft Dalmatian or a Giant Woody at the door of the buildings?
Definitly if my choices are value or moderate..I would chose value and use the extra $$ I saved for some extra Character dining or other experiences around/in Disney.
I think I'm an All Star Lifer...BUT look out Pop Century... I may be pounding on their doors next year!

We make a lot of trips to Disney (roughly 6 trips per years since 1998). We have stayed in all three All Stars more than once, all four moderates more than once, and several deluxe resorts (Contemporary, Poly, Swan, Dolphin, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Yacht Club). I can honestly say that we have enjoyed each and every resort we have stayed in.

Living in Tampa, we take several short weekend trips each year, sometimes going over Friday after work and sometimes arriving Saturday afternoon for a quick trip. More times than not, we stay in a value resort. The prices are just too good to pass up and we really do enjoy them. We will upgrade to a deluxe if we are going for a relaxing, do nothing, maybe only go into the park for dinner typer of weekend.

If we are going to be there more than three or more nights, we usually opt for a moderate because the prices are in the middle so we don't are breaking the bank to stay there and they offer more amenities such as larger and more pool options, bike rides and boating. If we are going to be there that length of time, the chances are good that we are going to spend a good amount of time resting in the resort.

I hope this helps.

Well, one year we got on a code $49 a night.. you can't touch that anywhere.

The other poster is right, I can't rent a house for a week in the Jersey shore, it costs more than Disney with Value resorts.

We have stayed at Sports, and never felt cramped, or too noisy or anything like that.

The buses are conveneint, and easy to get anywhere.

We had originally had ressies at sports again (we've been there four times!), but we did change to Deluxe for a few reasons.

1) Something different at not much price difference (using FTP!)
2) We could never afford Deluxes before!

Ill agree with the others. We have stayed at ASMO 2x, once with 5 of us(3 adults, 1 child and 1 infant) and once with just 2 adults & 2 children. While we didnt have a ton of extra space, we also had no problem and never felt cramped. Food court, bus service & CMs were all wonderful. The theming cannot be beat! Its so Disney!!! We never had any excess noise.
Looking forward to our trip back there in 3 months. :D

How far a walk would it be from ASSp to ASMo?

The kids love Toy Story but I'm thinking Sports might be the better place to stay because of the discounts and bus stopping there first. If we stay at Sports, will it be easy enough to walk over to Movies and see the sights?

Also, do they guarantee connecting rooms? We are a family of 5 so that's the only option for us if we want to stay at the AS.

Padme -- they do NOT guarantee connecting rooms unless there is only one adult in the party. We alsohave 5 and are staying there in a couple weeks.

Padme If you stay at Sports & want to see Movies ,coming back from the park one day or going to for that matter you can see if the bus will stop at movies (unless it is peek times park closing etc )the allstars share busses. That way you can ride the bus from sports to movies with a stop at Music in the middle. It is a fairly long walk.Just ask the driver before you board.

Thanks for the replies.

That stinks that they won't guarantee connecting rooms.:( Does anyone have experience with getting them with 2 adults? We are planning for December 2004 so maybe the slower time of year will help?

Thanks again!

I have stayed at the All Stars 3 times in the past few years, once in Sept, apr and May. I have gotten connectings rooms everytime, and we have been 4 adults and 2 kids. I fax the room assignor 4 days before arrival and ask for that as a priority.

I have stayed at all the all-stars,more than once on a couple of them and will be back in 2 weeks. We do not spend much time in the rooms anyways. We usually just sleep and do the pool on the first day of check in and sometimes late at night. The wife really does not like the food court and we eat at the parks or other resorts/DTD for dinners. We use the buses to get to the parks and we use our vehicle to get to the other resorts & DTD. For the price of $59/night you can't beat this. My kids love to stay here and we no longer stay off site.

We stayed at the ASSp resort, and mostly loved it. The kids loved the pools, especially the small one with Goofy's canon. I did find the lines at the food court to be long at night. The one time we tried to use the bus service was to go to Downtown Disney; we waited over 30 minutes for the bus, and then were another 30 minutes in transit. We would stay at the All Stars again, if not for the rediculous restrictions on people allowed in the rooms. (I have a 5 person family, and we may want to add to that later.)

Padme - When we stayed at the Movies in Nov/Dec, 2001, I had booked two rooms - and asked if the adjoining rooms would be guaranteed since I would have two teenagers in the other room and my DH and I with my youngest DD in the other room. The CM told me when there is children only in the room, they will guarantee adjoining rooms (with the door in between the rooms). We arrived at the Movies around 1:00 AM and we did get our adjoining rooms in 101 Dalmations.

We've stayed at the Movies twice now (in 2000 and 2001 - and we'll be back in Oct) - we rarely shared buses with the other All Stars. Maybe twice we went to one of the other hotels going to the parks - coming back, we always went straight to Movies.

We have really enjoyed our stays at the Movies!!
