What About Testing Positive Before Returning?

Those of you who are okay going across the border and paying for your tests, I'm really curious what your plan is if you should get a positive before your return home. This is what has kept us home so far. Genuinely asking honestly because I feel like I'm missing something, haha. If you're positive, they won't let you on that plane...

I'm not travelling until Feb, but we discussed it and we'd be renting a house (HOUSE - not condo/apartment with common areas) and having everything we needed delivered. Both of us work from home, and we use Office365, so as long as we have a device and an internet connection, we're all good.

That for sure helps! You can just work from there. But you're ready and willing to pay the extra 2k or whatever it is for two additional weeks?

LOLS - not really. We *made* the plan - RIIIIGHT before we ultimately cancelled our September trip ;)

I'm pretty sure we'll cancel again in Feb if things aren't looking up either. It just seemed like renting a house was the only real course of action that kept us responsibly away from everyone else. Renting a car and driving doesn't work. Even if you double-mask in a drive-through for your food, pay at the pump, and don't stop to sleep... you still have to give the (now infected) rental car back. Not fair.

We technically could afford to spend 20K on a trip, but that's French Polynesia money - not a week at the Polynesian if you know what I mean :)

I'm flying to buffalo. I'm considering testing the day before or the day I leave and then I won't likely have the test results until after my flight lands. At that point if I still don't have my results I'll rent a room for the night in buffalo. If positive I will take a cab to to border and walk across and have my spouse pick me up on the other side and drive home

Haha! I totally feel you. It's like, how much is this REALLY worth. We're pretty desperate for a trip, but not enough to add thousands on to quarantine for two weeks and go nowhere...

I'd be really surprised if the border agent accepted your husband picking you up as part of your quarantine plan if you were positive :o

Why? They can't turn me away and if he doesn't pick me up in the parking lot at the border crossing I'd be exposing some stranger.

Eta: we also have a mini van so if I sat in the back we would be 6 feet apart with open windows and masks.

We know someone who just went through this. The family member had to drop the vehicle off for them to pick up on the other side, as they couldn't be in the car together. Just something to be prepared for. And that was with a NEGATIVE test.

Well I don't drive so that won't work for me and they aren't going to make me walk. There are no rules to say it can't happen and it's a private vehicle so if they want to drive me 30 minutes to my house they are welcome to it. Either way that's my plan.

Wishing you all the best :)

Are the safety precautions on US flights within the US similar to Canadian within Canada? Meaning, masks and spreading people around (are they even doing that still in Canada?)

Yes masks are worn on all flights in the US right now. People on all flights in tue US and Canada are all seated together noe though

Good question. Specially since a cab driver is allowed to drive you across the border. I already have a car service booked for if I test negative and they advertise for driving people to their homes in Canada all the way to Toronto from the Buffalo Airport.

Question and maybe no one has thought of this ?? Hopefully not
What car service would be willing to drive a Covid positive person ? Or what driver ? I would hope you fully intend on telling them if Gosh forbid you did end up positive .
What if it was you or your loved one driving ? I can’t imagine

Because if one tests POSITIVE, you are suppose to be quarantine away from ALL other people. Despite vaccinations. Unless you’re in Alberta 😆
Question for you though. Why did it apply to people with a negative test. Also how do you get home if you rapid test and test positive but had someone drive you or took public transportation to your test?

I said I booked it for if I tested negative. But I would need to take some kind of public transportation regardless of where I'm going unless I'm expected to stand outside the airport for 2 weeks.
