 I'm sure there must be plenty of security at DW, right?? I haven't been able to find any info about it though. It would be nice to know how they keep the molesters out, or find out if they are there!!!

I can't tell if the above post is a joke or not. Just how is Disney supposed to "sniff out" child molesters??? If local police departments can't do it, how do you expect security guards at a theme park to do it???

The unfortunate problem is that child molesters don't "look" different than anyone else.

The only way to keep CONVICTED child molesters out would be if all of us, everyone, had to submit a notarized NCIC "rap sheet" along with photo ID just to buy a ticket. Not gonna happen. And even then, it would still probably be against the law.

Watch your children. Always have them visible. Be safe. And enjoy!

My bet is that there are as many molesters in your local mall as at WDW on a per capita basis every day. A child is most likely to be molested by a relative or family friend, not a stranger.

WDW has plenty of security, both uniformed and plain clothes. But you as a parent must take the responsibility of safeguarding your kids. Don't do things like letting them go to the pool alone, letting them play in the game rooms alone, and letting them roam around alone. Make sure that they understand how a molester works--offering candy or asking for help looking for a puppy.

Unfortunately, too many parents check their brain at the door when they go on vacation. Use some common sense, and make sure your kids know how to use theirs, and you'll be perfectly safe.

Eric, I'm sorry. I worded that wrong. I wasn't joking. I realize that there are low lifes everywhere. Of course I would not leave my children unattended at a young age!! We took them to NYC a few years ago, and kept a very close eye on them.

It's just that I NEVER hear of anything bad happening at DW or DL. This makes me wonder HOW they do it so well. That's why I said "how" do they keep the molesters out.
Thing is, I have a son who is 15, and asking (bombarding me!) about going to the Animal Kingdom alone while we are resting. I feel very wary about letting him go anywhere alone while we are at DW. Our DD is 11 and OF COURSE I wouldn't let her out of my sight. I would feel better if DW had something on the net about their security plan is all.

IMO, Disney is not any safer than NYC. Keep your children within your sight at all times. However, your children are a little older and will wonder off just a bit, just know where they are at all times.

I believe lots more things happen at Disney than anyone would ever want to even imagine but because they are such a big company much of what happens there is never reported to the public.
