Been home with my sick DD and there is nothing to watch on TV but WAR! What about my Soap's, what about Caroline Rhae, what about John Walsh?

Do we really need war coverage on 10 different channels?

I agree! I'm already getting sick of non-stop coverage on every network channel. There is a poll on MSNBC about whether it should be broadcast 24/7 and last I looked it was dead even at 50/50.

I agree, too much coverage. Thank goodness for DISH Network, there are always channels with something else on when you just can't handle anymore of the war coverage.

Well, I live Young and the Restless and basketball was in its place Thursday and today. URGH!

War coverage? What war coverage??
All I'm ever allowed to have on is Nickelodeon!!! LOL!!:) :)

no personal offense intended.....but.....

I find it hard to believe that any rational person...with the understanding that thousands and thousands of American Men and Women...who have children, grandchildren...husbands and wives personally risking their LIVES...would be or are concerned by the lack of "john...marsha!...john...marsha!...john...marsha!" meaningless "entertainment"...are very much 'concerned' by the lack of 'normal' daily programing........IF it does bother some....I'd suggest visits to Blockbusters....and perhaps their local places of worship. jmho. Like I said...no personal offense intended....flame away....

Goof, I understand to some extent what you are saying, but the fact of the matter is people DO watch TV to get away from it all, and watching bombs blowing up in the sky is not healthy for ANYONE 24/7. I felt the same way after 9/11, DH would sit endlessly watching the same thing over and over, that HORRIBLE image of the Towers falling, until finally I had to just put my foot down and unplug and remove the TV.

I've been keeping up with my news via The Washington Post, with just an hour or so a day on TV. In the meantime, I am SO glad we finally got cable TV, because I just discovered TV Land! :bounce: OMG, how did I live all these years without TV LAND??????? I just love all the escape from reality shows on that channel! I suggest watching something that will help you relieve your stress - whether that be a movie, another channel you like, or just turning off the TV and doing something else you like to do. :)

Let's get real...the reason the networks are showing the war 24/7 is because it IS entertainment for many people. Not my kind of entertainment! I don't enjoy seeing bombs exploding and fires raging out of control. I don't enjoy hearing about oil fires and dead servicemen. It would be PERFECTLY acceptable to cover these issues during the regular news hours and break in with important issues when necessary. Showing the war 24 hours a day is excessive, especially when most of the time they are just repeating the same thing over and over.

How does "live war coverage" help those fighting? How does watching "meaningless entertainment" change the events in Iraq?

For those who want to see the coverage they have many choices to do so. For those of us who would prefer to not be engrossed in the coverage, why should we have to?

you are....as usual....right Judi! :)

The "good news" is thou...that in this 'conflict'...it's only in it's 3rd day!...and...God Willing...it won't last for anyways near as long as the 9-11 "aftermath"....and yes...."escapeism" IS important....certainly it can be argued that that is what Disney is all about! :)

.....I just hope and pray....that it not be minimized or lost...that while we all want and need to escape...that "it" has a very real impact .... on very real people...not only on Americans..but on people in Iraq.... :):) ....that's all I guess I meant by my 'rant' :)

I guess my basic message is just not to minimize the actions of our brothers, sons, daughters....that's going on now.....:)

I don't need to watch it 24 hours a day to know what is going on. There is nothing wrong with needing a break from it, and I'm fairly certain that Disneychrista isn't the only one who feels that way. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to take a break from the war and watching 'john...marsha!'

Also I think suggesting that anybody's time could be used more wisely by going to a 'local place of worship' is just plain rude and condescending.

I never said it helped those fighting....but I think for some of the home front people...it helps to keep them 'connected'...perhaps not you...and that's ok....and I never meant to imply that watching "meaningless entertainment" was changing anything....simply...I meant to state....that I did not think it was a "good" idea to minimize..what is/was happening in real life....

my comments were not intended to solicit that opinion...if it did to you...I apologize...and respect your opinion....as I hope you will mine.

I don't have anybody close to me overseas, but if I did, I don't think it would be healthy to watch all this. My great-grandmother had 6 sons in WW2. I could not imagine the horror of her watching everything unfold while all her boys were over there. Her daughters and dil's and babies would never have been cared for. There are times when it is better not to know everything. You can better carry on with your day to day activities without so much knowledge. 9/11 was a bit different as it was a one day activity with a short period of aftermath. This might be over in a week or two years. You can not maintain the living on the edge thing that long.
Goofy, I know you meant well. I too, felt guilty saying we shouldn't watch this all the time. But I know in my heart this is the right thing. To tell you how bad it is here right now, my dh has bowling on, on ESPN. YUCK.

Vietnam... they didn't televise it back than, and I don't like to see LIVE WAR now! Hopefully in about a day or 2, they will grow bored with this story, as news people do, and bring back the soaps.;)

No offense everyone but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Angel will not be the next to get bumped.I'm getting sick of wall-to-wall and ready for Sunday and the Oscars
