What about Haunted Mansion...The Movie?

With the tremendous success of POC is anyone (else) out there seriously hoping for a repeat from HM?

I think the trailers have looked very good. Eddie Murphy looks funny and it seems mildly scary for the younger audience without being brutally greusome (which I hate in movies).

As I've said before, Eddie Murphy is capable of turning in an "A" or an "F" performance so it's always a crapshoot with him. But again, the trailers look funny so maybe he was well rested before shooting this!

Any thoughts?

I think it would be considered a great success if it was able to top 100 million. Compare it to freaky friday or daddy day care, in a crowded holiday market.

It's all relative I know and I certainly am not expecting 300M type numbers (although I wasn't expecting them from POC either) and 100M will be just fine if the films budget is right. Do we have any indications as to the cost of this film or is this something we must wait for until after release?

Certainly no big "plot" I think...Eddie & family visit a haunted mansion during a job interview and meet ghosts and their hijinks...But within this realm I thinks there is lots of room for anecdotal humor and thrills and chills...

BTW, the Haunted Mansion Movie website is pretty cool. Movie trailer, the premise, a printable poster and such...

I haven't seen anything with the budget Peter - don't get me wrong, I would love it if it surprises and makes 150 or even 200 million, I just wanted to be realistic in my expectations -

I had expected the worst with Pirates and was happy to be proven wrong. I don't have high hopes for Haunted Mansion either, but I would be happy to be proven wrong twice.

From the previews, it looks like there a lot of inside jokes for those of us who love the ride.

I saw the LA Times estimated the budget at almost $90 million for THM. My guess is that this is production costs only so you need to add in another $45 million for marketing to get a ballpark figure for total cost.

WOW!!!! 45 million for marketing would be higher than any film this year except for matrix reloaded!! WOW! If they are going to promote it that hard I'll have to up my guesstimate!!!! Great news, thanks!
