What about hats??

I usually wear a baseball type cap, but I have found that the bigger brims help keep me cooler. I'll be buying one before our May trip. If you get one with a cord, you can just slip it off for photos, and you'll never forget it in a restaurant...can't tell you how many times I've had to turn around and go back for my cap!!!
Thanks for reminding me to call the doctor today!!! I have a spot on my shoulder that needs looking at. Better safe than sorry!

I wore a wide-brimmed straw hat (think Scarlett O'Hara at the Wilkes' barbeque.) I have such fair skin that I practically glow, so covering myself from the sun is a must. The brim was wide enough that it shaded the back of my neck, as well as my face (also a must, as I have short hair.) I got it for $3 at the local Drug Fair, plopped it on my head at the airport on our way to Florida and didn't take it off until we returned to New Jersey.

Don't see myself in that birthday hat but would love to see it. I love other people in great hats! I wish I had more nerve....I so admire it in others.

I agree with the wide-brimmed thing.........That's what I like as long as it doesn't look too fancy.

And yes, I did see those knit Croc hats, but can't help picturing a hideously big rubber wide-brimmed orange thing with holes....and there'd be threads all over the place how it was the greatest hat ever and how if you wear it you will be so cool and comfy and this is what people who work in the sun all day wear and never get hot and it costs $30.00 plus shipping....

My heart goes out to both of you, but good for you for going in to get it checked out before it got too bad. Can I ask a sincere question though? What does it look like? i.e. How did you know to ask about it? My family is all fair skinned and I always wonder that.

I will be sure to take along hats for all of us.

About two years ago, I first noticed what looked like a small blemish or scratch on my face. After a while, I realized it wasn't going away. It was usually only noticeable after I washed my face. Every couple of months, it would flare up and was bright red all day long which would only last a few days. It would also flake like really bad dry skin. I waited way longer than I should have to get it checked out so I was lucky it wasn't worse. The flare-ups were becoming more frequent and were stinging so I went to my doctor who sent me to a dermotologist. He did a biopsy right there in the office and I had the results a week later.

I am also fair skinned. As a child, I spent everyday at the pool in the summer with little or no sunscreen on. It has been years since I have had a sunburn. I believe the damage was done when I was younger. My doctor has warned me that since I am so young(34), I have to be extra careful from here on out. Fortunately, basal cel is the most treatable form of cancer and the most common.

I thought I was the only one to get a sunburnt scalp. I don't feel so alone anymore

I'm not a hat person but I have to wear one at Disney. I found the perfect pink bucket hat last year and it worked out perfectly. It had a terry lining so I didn't feel hot and sweaty, and it looked cute.

I don't usually wear a hat, but when we're at Disney, a hat is a must. Since I have long thick hair, I find a baseball hat great because I can put my hair in a ponytail and put it through the hole in the back. Hat hair isn't a problem because we always go back to the resort in the afternoon for a swim and have a shower before we go back to the parks for the evening. The only thing with a baseball hat is not to forget to put lots of sunscreen on the back of your neck unless your hair covers it.
