I really don't see why we can't trick or treat. It should be easy to social distance. my kids already have plans for masks! I do fully expect the city to cancel it though.

Our street is already making plans to save halloween. We will have some form of trick or treating and a safe outside party if it's cancelled. As a street, we love Halloween. And honestly, after so much else being cancelled, the kids will be really upset if we don't do something.

Most people don’t wear masks in their own home. If that person coughs/sneezes accidentally on the candies and give them out, it does not matter if it’s socially distanced or placed in a bowl at porch. A contaminated candy is a contaminated candy so I would not take a chance.

If you don't let the kids have the candy for a couple of days, any covid germs that are on the candies will have died.

Viruses on surfaces are not a big transmission concern for SARS-Cov2 right now, especially if the candy has been quarantined/isolated/left alone for a few days. Viruses are NOT living organisms, they are infectious particles that need a host to replicate. So even if there are viruses on the wrapper of a candy, it won't replicate and jump on you! Yes it is important to be cautious (hence putting the candies in quarantine) but no need to go into paranoia. The biggest danger of Halloween is human contact for long period of time and if kids trick or treat as families and not in big groups of friends, all wear masks and keep their distance as much as possible, I don't think it's such a big risk. But then, our city postponed Halloween because of rain so I'm not expecting trick or treating to happen unfortunately.

Of course, because its 2020... there will probably be a monster snowpocalypse blizzard on October 31st which will render trick or treating moot anyway ....
