I have been most of the time in October but now it seems to be getting more busy with MNSSHP and FWF, but i enjoy both of these and still considering mid- october.

But looks like we have a chance to go in Jan, and would only miss 2 days of school.so how does jan fair......weather crowds etc.....

thanks

I'm thinking the very first week of January will still be quite busy. Most schools are still out and our seasonal APs are blacked out until the weekend which signals "very busy" to me. After the 5th I bet the crowds will REALLY diminish. My db and his family went last year this time and said it was empty. The weather can be fickle this time of year. Possible very cold and even rainy, but it could be beautiful too. Ya never know!

We went Jan 1, 2004- Jan 7 and it was the best trip ever. We walked on every ride and the weather was 70-80.

I go the 1st week of January every year and it is awesome. The crowds are still there on the 1st and 2nd, but taper off every day after that. The 1st and 2nd are not bad on crowds though either. People sleep in on the 1st after a night of partying. The weather is wonderful too. I will be there January 1-8 at CBR.

We went this year January 1 - 8 and could not believe how crowded it was. For starters our resort, POFQ, was booked solid. We had to leave MK on January 2nd because it was jam-packed in the afternoon. It was no better at Epcot the next day, then AK, MGM, etc. All extremely crowded, all week. The reason is that January 1st fell at the start of the week, plus more and more schools don't start back from XMas vacation til the second week of January. It'll be as crowded, if not more, next year, since January 1st falls on a Monday. Weatherwise it was sunny and pleasant. Not warm enough to entice us into riding Splash Mountain or Kali, as we wouldn't have dried out. Not quite warm enough to enjoy the pool either. We needed jackets in the morning and evening. By the end of the week a cold front came through and we needed our coats.

We had a split stay (2nts at Swan and 5nts at BCV) the second full week of January 05 and had very light crowds. World Showcase was very deserted especially first thing after opening. The longest stand-by line we has was 20 minutes for Dumbo. Some FP machines were inactive due to no waits in stand-by. My nephew was able to ride RNRC 5 times without having to get back in line (even rode once as the only rider on the coaster). One thing that we noticed during this time was that there were obviously more families with pre-school age kids taking advantage of the lower crowds (as evident by the Dumbo wait). The temperatures can fluctuate more in December and January, so you would want to check the forecast temps before you go (we have seen highs in mid 70's at the beginning of a stay and had los in the 40's by the end). One disadvantage is that Disney will use this time to do refurbishments, so some rides/waterparks may be closed (Disney publishes a schedule for planned closures). Overall it is a great time to go and we are trying to take as many trips off-season as we can before our kids enter school.

I have been in Nov., June, and first week of Jan..
Jan. was great weather (low 80s). It was busier than Nov., but less than June. It was very do able with good timing and fast passes. Make dinner reservations for any sit downs.

We are thinking of arriving jan 1 and staying till the 6th--
we normally go in early nov for christmas.

will the park still be decorated for the holiday???

The Osborne Lights at MGM are scheduled to be opened until Jan. 7th. So there will still be some decorations around.

We have gone the past 2 Januarys. 1-5 of 2005, weather was perfect, every day in the 70's. 1-8 of 2006, weather was great thru the 4th, then turned cold for the rest of the week, had to wear long pants and sweatshirts, yuck, but still better that the weather at home. We are returning in 2007 again the 1-8, we like this time frame, boys do not return to school until the 9th again in 07. As far as crowds, the first 2 days are very crowded, then it thins out quite a bit the rest of the week. We love WDW in January. :thumbsup2

We have just decided to go at that exact time! :thumbsup2 We went this year from Jan 1 - Jan 7. We had a variety of weather... the first few days were quite hot high 80s :sunny: but the last 2 days were very cold. We needed light jackets. The marathon happens that weekend and our resort was a bit noisy when the runnners left in the am on the 7th. It was more crowded :crowded: than we had been hoping but we still had a great time and it was fun to see the Christmas decorations :santa: . Have an awesome trip! :cheer2:

how crowded was it--
what were your wait times like???

It was a little less crowded than March break when we usually go. We were fine and did not wait longer than 20 min for anything. But we always use fast pass and just go somewhere else if there is a long wait. We were glad to have ADRs for our meals as the restaurants were crowded. We too stayed at POFQ and found the resort, especially the hot tub crowded.(Perhaps because the parks are not open as late as they are in March?)

Just wanted to say "HI Neighbor" we live in Alabaster also!! Glad to see there are other Dis-ers around here!!

I haven't been the first week of Jan but the 3rd week this year had great weather. In preparation for our trip I kept a daily watch on the weather channel website from about mid-December...I remember it being pretty much in the high 60's and low 70's around the time you are thinking about going.

We are going Jan 1-9, 2007. We were there this past Jan thru the 4th. The crowds were still pretty heavy on the first and second and then became noticibly lighter as the days went on.

Compared to the couple of days leading up to and including NYE we really noticed a difference. I think it will be busy but not the chaos of the holiday.

I will not go in the summer so I can put up with the crowds for the more enjoyable weather.

We were there Dec. 28th through Jan. 4th last year...and had no problems with crowds, etc. The weather is beautiful! Take advantage of EMH, as well!
