What a palaver to get flights.

Just booked my flights for our trip in February and I am well chuffed. When we first started looking for flights in November we wanted to fly with Virgin from Manchester, taking advantage of their new winter service. DH especially wanted Virgin as he loves DTD checkin and HATES flying through a US hub airport (after suffering a two day delay in Philadelphia last year).

Anyway, we have to fly on a Sunday and lo and behold virgin do not fly out of Man on a Sunday or Monday  We asked our travel agent for options but he could only suggest flying from Gatwick and getting a shuttle down there with a 5 hour wait in Gatwick for the Orlando flight. We asked if we could fly out of Gatwick and back into Manchester but were told this was a no go.

Back to square one....

After much humming and haaing from DH I started looking on the internet for options. BMI flights were looking OK and then priceline came up with a quote for Virgin flying from Gatwick and back into Manchester..... a trip our Travel Agent told us was impossible!

I immediately phoned Virgin Travelstore who say yes, of course you can do it - but do it today as there are only three seats left for the Manchester flight. Only trouble is the BA shuttle to Gatwick is an extra £453 (USA flights only come to £1100)

Back onto the net and check Expedia for shuttle prices - Single price = £453 BUT return price = £200 - I have no idea why a return is half the price of a single flight but book this anyway and immediately secure the seats with Virgin.

Finally after hours of phone calls and messing about we have the flights we want (well, almost) DH gets to go with Virgin so everyone is happy.

And BA gets three empty seats on its shuttle from Gatwick to Manchester on the 20th Feb....;)

Amazing work, Sue. Just goes to show what's possible when you are 'Orlando inspired.' :teeth:

Great work Sue:p

I had similiar problems trying to get Virgin flights for October 2004.In the end had to compromise quite a lot! We had to change the holiday by 2 days from ideal departure date and could only get 13 nights not 14/15 as we'd wanted plus had to have the earlier fight out and home and we prefer the later fight BUT the price was so good (AND we were lucky to get it at all):earseek:
